Quarterback Mac Jones suffered an apparent left leg injury late in the fourth quarter of the team’s 37-26 loss, and headed straight to the locker room. The play itself ended with an interception by Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters — Jones’ third pick of the day — but all eyes were on Jones, who stayed on the ground after a hit from defensive tackle Calais Campbell. The 24-year-old will therefore undergo further testing on Monday, with an MRI scheduled to determine the true severity of the injury.

Mac Jones limps off field in obvious pain, but Patriots only say he is ... (The Boston Globe)

FOXBOROUGH — Nobody had an answer to the biggest question after Sunday's Patriots-Ravens game: What's the latest on quarterback Mac Jones?

He takes hits all the time, and he’s a tough dude.” He always has his input on things we’re doing and helping with what he sees and preparing like he’s the No. Jones finished the day with a season-high 321 passing yards and a rushing touchdown. He also did not share his perspective on what happened on the play. His teammates didn’t appear to have any information on the situation, instead extending their well-wishes. As Jones made his way down the stairs with two Patriots staffers, he was visibly and audibly in pain. Added Bourne, “He knows what he’s doing. After the Packers, New England’s next three opponents are Detroit, Cleveland, and Chicago. “I’m going to let our training staff and all of them do that. The team did not have any additional information beyond the fact that Jones is being evaluated for a leg injury. He kept his left leg off the ground and did not stop at the bench on his way to the locker room. Defensive end Calais Campbell (6 feet 8 inches, 307 pounds) brought down Jones after the throw, landing hard on Jones’s lower left leg.

Mac Jones suffers leg injury in Patriots' turnover-plagued loss to ... (USA TODAY)

Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens defeated the New England Patriots 37-26. Patriots quarterback Mac Jones left with a leg injury.

The defense had a great start on Sunday, holding Jackson and the Ravens to a three-and-out. In the opening drive of the third quarter, the receiver hauled in a 36-yard toss to push the Patriots downfield. He hit Andrews for a 16-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds left in the half. The group didn’t have the same luck on the second series as the Ravens took a 7-0 lead. That drive ended with a Rhamondre Stevenson 1-yard touchdown run at 12:39 of the fourth quarter. The Patriots quarterback appeared to have suffered a left leg injury on the play. On the second drive, he caught a 40-yard pass. On Sunday, Parker showed everyone he has the ability to be the Patriots No. The Ravens turned that into a 31-20 lead, thanks to a 56-yard field goal by Justin Tucker at 2:33 of the third quarter. This came on a third-and-goal from the 10-yard line. The Ravens started with solid field position on their next series thanks to a 43-yard punt return by Devin Duvernay. To make it worse, it appeared as though Jones suffered a left leg injury late in the fourth quarter when he was sacked.

Report: Mac Jones could miss games with ankle injury (Patriots.com)

The Patriots might have to tap their backup quarterback depth if Mac Jones is unable to play against Packers.

Hoyer's experience as backup quarterback is all you can ask for, but he'll have to avoid mistakes like the ones that cost the Patriots on the scoreboard in Kansas City. In that one, Hoyer's only start with New England in seven seasons, the offense moved the ball with 357 yards of offense, but killed themselves in the red zone with poor clock management and turnovers. Though he attempted just 18 passes in preseason games this summer, Hoyer showed good zip and a solid understanding of what the new offensive coaching staff was trying to employ. Though the statline says zero touchdowns, three interceptions, Mac made some of the best throws of his career in this game. Despite the loss, the offense continued to make strides. Jones was hurt in the closing minutes of a

The former Alabama All-American hobbled off the field after his final pass on Sunday.

I have no idea because I know if he has something he can go and play with, he’s going to play with it. The former [Alabama ](//www.al.com/alabamafootball/)All-American played every offensive snap in that game and was back for every one in Game 2, too, when New England defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 17-14 last week. We’ll have to see what it is and go from there as a team. We’ll wait and see what Monday and Tuesday look like. [NFL Network reported](https://www.nfl.com/news/qb-mac-jones-suffers-leg-injury-on-patriots-final-offensive-play-in-loss-vs-rave) that while X-rays were negative, New England was evaluating Jones for tendon or ligament damage in his left ankle. “I think I was just trying to get pressure on him, hit him, make him uncomfortable and make him throw an interception. 2, when New England visits the Green Bay Packers. The Patriots’ next game is at 3:25 p.m. “I hate to see him get hurt. You never want to see guys get hurt. Jones completed 22-of-31 passes for 321 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions against Baltimore. And I think that was just a good football play.

Mac Jones injury turns Patriots' bad day into a disaster | Matt Vautour (masslive.com)

If Mac Jones is out for any length of time, the Patriots' season could unravel quickly.

By all accounts, Hoyer has a terrific football mind and he’s used that to stay in the NFL for a long time despite a limited skillset. Normally this would be a loss, even in September, that would be easy to identify as one that might haunt the Patriots come January. His injury was a larger and harsher reminder of how fragile a season can be. Even before [ Mac Jones ](https://www.masslive.com/mac-jones/)hobbled off the field at Gillette Stadium in obvious pain, it was a frustrating afternoon. The butterfly effect of any individual play can be enormous. To be a playoff team, this Patriots team never had a lot of room for error.

How will the Patriots replace Mac Jones? (Pats Pulpit)

Tests confirmed the Patriots QB suffered a "pretty severe" high ankle sprain.

How effective this arrangement will be remains to be seen, but Hoyer’s experience in the system and with New England’s pass catcher is unparalleled and gives him an advantage over all other options available. He is the least likely name on that list to join the team, but still one of the better options available — which says all you need to know about the free agent crop of quarterbacks. The timetable is yet to be determined, but the Patriots will have to look for a new starting QB for the immediate future. While the team and its offense have changed quite a bit since the 2020 season that saw him start 15 games, Newton knows the organization and would bring a different dimension to an attack that will change anyway with Jones not under center. While he has not yet seen the field this season, the 36-year-old appears to be the next man to be called up if the Patriots opt to replace Jones in-house. He spent time on the team’s practice squad in 2014 and as recently as 2021.
