Hurts has to be willing to live with check-downs, slants, and whatever the Vikings offer on defense, biding his time until a big play becomes available. For the Eagles to be victorious on offense, he’ll need clean throwing lanes, more time to throw, and efficient play calling against an athletic Minnesota front.
Mike Zimmer spent eight seasons as the coach of the Vikings. After parting with the team in the 2022 NFL offseason, he went back to the college game.
Certainly, Zimmer had plenty of success during his time as an NFL coach; he just never quite got his team over the hump. Zimmer was an NFL head coach for eight years with the Vikings. Meanwhile, Zimmer is looking forward to working with Sanders as he enters his third year as a head coach at Jackson State. He is serving as an analyst for the team and will bring his defensive knowledge to the FCS program. As such, it's easy to see why he would want a quality, defensive mind like Zimmer around his program. Zimmer and Sanders worked together on the Cowboys from 1995 to 1999. "I think the sky is the limit [for Sanders]," he added. He also won Super Bowl 30 during his time with the veteran defensive coach. Now, however, Zimmer is not coaching in the NFL. He held that role with three teams — the Cowboy, Falcons and Bengals — for 13 seasons before becoming a head coach. Going from Vikings head coach to an analyst at Jackson State may seem like quite a step down for Zimmer. Kevin O'Connell replaced Mike Zimmer after the latter spent eight years in charge of the team.

One week after playing a near-perfect half at home against the Packers, the Vikings opened with a half about as bad — hopefully — as they could. Philadelphia ...
Drive saver: After Dalvin Cook was tackled for a loss of 1 on a short pass, Alexander Mattison broke a tackle to gain 5 on a run and set up a third-and-6. Bad after timeout: Minnesota opted to use a timeout with 28 seconds left and Philadelphia facing a third-and-6 from its own 21-yard line. Strong finish: The Vikings prepped Hurts' mobility, but it still affected them. Third-and-what?: The Eagles appeared to have converted third-and-8 with a 12-yard pass to Kenneth Gainwell, but it was wiped off because of an ineligible man downfield penalty. Philadelphia, however, then easily converted a third-and-13 with a 19-yard pass to A.J. Hurts racked up 151 yards on 8-of-11 passing for a passer rating of 145.1 in the first half. Minnesota moved the ball into scoring territory, but Kirk Cousins was intercepted two times to keep points off the board and deny a comeback. Rather than forcing a punt, however, the Vikings allowed a 16-yard completion to DeVonta Smith that was followed by completions of 19 and 24 yards to Goedert, moving the ball all the way to the Minnesota 20. Cousins drilled a throw to K.J. Dallas Goedert led all players with 82 yards, and DeVonta Smith added 80, catching all seven passes thrown his way. Brown and Watkins each totaled 69 receiving yards. The Vikings used a mortar kickoff to start the game and pinned Philadelphia at its 18, but the Eagles went the distance to open the game.
PHILADELPHIA − Jalen Hurts put on a show through the first half. The Eagles quarterback completed 17 of 20 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown.
The Eagles got back a conditional fourth-round pick in 2024 and a seventh-round pick in 2023. Reagor was booed by Eagles' fans, except for when he tried to return a punt after catching it inside the Vikings' 10 yard line. The Eagles were called for three illegal receiver downfield penalties in the first quarter alone. For the Vikings, Jalen Reagor made his return to Philadelphia after the Eagles traded him on Aug. Boyd picked up the blocked field goal and returned it to the Eagles' 30. The Eagles' defensive picked things up in the second half, intercepting Cousins three times. But Hurts once again took the Eagles down the field. But the drive stalled at the Vikings' 21, and Elliott's 41-yard field goal was blocked. That gave the Eagles a 21-7 lead with 1:58 left in the first half. Then he hooked up with Quez Watkins on a 53-yard bomb in which Watkins was 10 yards beyond the closest defender. They also had 347 yards of offense in the first half alone. The Eagles got the ball back at their 5 yard line with 1:21 remaining.
Minnesota's Kirk Cousins threw three interceptions during a dismal 24-7 loss to the Eagles. With the defeat, Cousins fell to 2-10 in his career on Monday ...
And though the first-half deficit might well have dictated the pass-heavy approach in the second half, the Cousins-led offense was nearly as woeful in the initial 30 minutes of game time. Despite the trials and turnovers of Cousins, Vikings rookie head coach Kevin O'Connell shouldered the blame, citing Minnesota's lack of offensive balance as it attempted in vain to dig out of a 17-point halftime hole. With the defeat, Cousins fell to 2-10 in his career on Monday night -- the worst record in league history according to NFL Research.

Hurts threw for 333 yards and a touchdown, and ran for two more scores as the Eagles looked impressive against the Vikings.
It was one of several misguided attempts from the Vikings quarterback, and the Eagles capitalized. Jefferson had six catches for 48 yards, which pales in comparison to his 184-yard performance in the Vikings’ 23-7 win over Green Bay in Week 1. The tackling was better and the pressure was more consistent. A quarter later, Slay got one for himself, picking off Cousins a second time in the end zone midway through the fourth quarter to all but salt the game away. The Eagles held Minnesota to 264 total yards and forced three turnovers. The first one came when Darius Slay undercut a pass to Justin Jefferson in the end zone. It was one of two games scheduled for the prime-time slots for Week 2, and the Eagles rose to the occasion of playing their home opener on national television. The Eagles didn’t have significant sack production, but they had more than enough pressures to get Cousins throwing off his back foot for much of the second half. Even on two of his three first-half incompletions, Hurts made good decisions and put the ball where it was supposed to be. Hell of a game tonight, but there’s still a hell of a lot to learn from.” Hurts was nearly perfect in the first half — calling it the best half of his career might be an understatement. “It was a big-time performance from him,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said after the game.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has developed a reputation of struggling in prime-time games. His performance against the Philadelphia Eagles on ...
While the Patriots are not world-beaters by any means, it's hard to pick against them with Cousins' continued struggles in marquee games. All three of his picks were thrown in the second half, with two of them coming on back-to-back possessions in the third quarter. Unfortunately for the Vikings, they have another prime-time matchup on the schedule against the New England Patriots on Thanksgiving night.

"We've all got to look ourselves in the mirror and find a way to be a little bit better," Thielen added. "He's such talented player and such a great guy, so I obviously feel for him, but the game didn't come down to that play," Thielen said of Smith. "We didn't come to play like we wanted to," Jefferson said. "Irv is going to have a heck of a year for us," O'Connell added. "We've all had a play like that that we can look back on in our career and pushed us a little more. "We're going to come back to him. Under pressure, Cousins lofted one to Jefferson in the back corner of the end zone, and Slay struck again. The Vikings only points of the evening came via Irv Smith, Jr., who put Minnesota on the board with a 2-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter. "Every single [interception] has its own story, and we'll make sure we coach them up and put our guys in better positions." Tonight, we didn't do the things we've talked about since OTAs," Thielen said. Late in the third quarter, Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson blocked an Eagles field goal attempt and returned the ball to Minnesota's offense with an opportunity to capitalize. Cornerback Darius Slay made sure the ball never made it to Jefferson, though, intercepting Cousins and adding a 19-yard return.
On Monday night, Philadelphia 76ers All-Star James Harden was at the NFL game between the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles.
Harden and the 76ers will tip off the 2022-23 season on the road against Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics on October 18. Harper is currently on the Philadelphia Phillies and is in the middle of his fourth season with the club. Philadelphia fans getting to see their Eagles pick up a big win in a national TV game with two of their most famous stars in attendance has to be an excellent feeling.
