Eagles vs. Vikings prediction: Don't fall for trendy Philly in dangerous ... (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

Philadelphia is dealing as a short home favorite against a surging Minnesota squad that matches up well on Monday.

Brown is the Eagles pass offense thus far, which is obviously concerning against this Minnesota defense that made two-time Aaron Rodgers look pedestrian a week ago. Cousins has a quick trigger, especially with his receivers as wide-open as they’ve been in the O’Connell offense, which puts a lot of pressure on a Philly defense that allowed 35 points in Week 1. Brown (10 catches, 155 yards), who finished with a 40.6% target share. Even Jefferson’s brilliance last week came in the flow of the Vikings offense. Receiver Adam Thielen (36 yards) shared after the game how refreshing it was to be part of an offense that’s always in attack mode, which is notable after eight years under notoriously conservative coach Mike Zimmer. The Eagles finished with just one sack last week, a year after recording their fewest in a season (29) since it became an official stat in 1982. Oddsmakers are seemingly giving Philly the home-field nod and nothing more in this one, which feels like a much fairer assessment of these two clubs — and leaves value on Minnesota as a dangerous road ‘dog. The Vikings steamrolled a Packers team that looked an awful lot like a Super Bowl contender in Sunday night’s Week 2 tune-up. Tell that to first-time head coach Kevin O’Connell, who schemed up superstar wideout Justin Jefferson for 158 yards and two touchdowns in the first half alone. But it sure doesn’t feel like the betting market is treating them as equally as it should. One team dominated headlines all summer after adding a slew of talent in the offseason. Those two will meet on Monday in a game that oddsmakers see as a near-even clash between undefeated teams.

Live updates: Jalen Hurts, Eagles' offense have a dominant day ... (The News Journal)

PHILADELPHIA − Jalen Hurts put on a show through the first half. The Eagles quarterback completed 17 of 20 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown.

The Eagles got back a conditional fourth-round pick in 2024 and a seventh-round pick in 2023. Reagor was booed by Eagles' fans, except for when he tried to return a punt after catching it inside the Vikings' 10 yard line. The Eagles were called for three illegal receiver downfield penalties in the first quarter alone. For the Vikings, Jalen Reagor made his return to Philadelphia after the Eagles traded him on Aug. Boyd picked up the blocked field goal and returned it to the Eagles' 30. The Eagles' defensive picked things up in the second half, intercepting Cousins three times. But Hurts once again took the Eagles down the field. But the drive stalled at the Vikings' 21, and Elliott's 41-yard field goal was blocked. That gave the Eagles a 21-7 lead with 1:58 left in the first half. Then he hooked up with Quez Watkins on a 53-yard bomb in which Watkins was 10 yards beyond the closest defender. They also had 347 yards of offense in the first half alone. The Eagles got the ball back at their 5 yard line with 1:21 remaining.

It was a total defensive breakdown, with three defenders gravitating toward tight end [Dallas Goedert](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3121023/dallas-goedert) while Watkins cruised down the field unmarked. In other words, the interceptions quashed a genuine chance to get back in the game. The result was three interceptions, including a pair by [Darius Slay](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/15863/darius-slay). One was a miscommunication with Jefferson, who appeared to be apologizing to Cousins in the moments afterward. The answer to such questions is usually somewhere in the middle, but it will take some time to dig through the rubble left by Jalen Hurts, who completed 26 of 31 passes for 333 yards while accounting for all three Eagles touchdowns. And so it went Monday night for the Vikings, who were dominated physically and schematically. Given how effective he is as a runner, defenses are going to have a very hard time containing him if he continues to burn it up through the air. Entering the season, the big question was whether Hurts was good enough to take advantage of a loaded roster and turn the Eagles into legit contenders. Hurts has been the team's best player in both games so far, and that's no small thing.

Eagles-Vikings analysis: Birds dominate in a 24-7 win with Jalen ... (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

Hurts threw for 333 yards and a touchdown, and ran for two more scores as the Eagles looked impressive against the Vikings.

It was one of several misguided attempts from the Vikings quarterback, and the Eagles capitalized. Jefferson had six catches for 48 yards, which pales in comparison to his 184-yard performance in the Vikings’ 23-7 win over Green Bay in Week 1. The tackling was better and the pressure was more consistent. A quarter later, Slay got one for himself, picking off Cousins a second time in the end zone midway through the fourth quarter to all but salt the game away. The Eagles held Minnesota to 264 total yards and forced three turnovers. The first one came when Darius Slay undercut a pass to Justin Jefferson in the end zone. It was one of two games scheduled for the prime-time slots for Week 2, and the Eagles rose to the occasion of playing their home opener on national television. The Eagles didn’t have significant sack production, but they had more than enough pressures to get Cousins throwing off his back foot for much of the second half. Even on two of his three first-half incompletions, Hurts made good decisions and put the ball where it was supposed to be. Hell of a game tonight, but there’s still a hell of a lot to learn from.” Hurts was nearly perfect in the first half — calling it the best half of his career might be an understatement. “It was a big-time performance from him,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said after the game.

Spadaro: Eagles shine under the bright lights of Monday Night ... (PhiladelphiaEagles.com)

In a demonstrative 24-7 triumph over Minnesota, there was a lot to like from the home opener at Lincoln Financial Field.

He loved the execution of the defense and he loved the mindset. In all, the defense gave up a paltry 264 total net yards and the Vikings converted just 4 of 12 third downs. "A win is great and it feels good, but we know it's a long season and this is just one week. A lot of the beauty of this offensive night on which the Eagles racked up 486 yards was the balance of the offense. Our goal is to be the best as a unit and we knew that to win this game tonight we had to win against a good front. Cox and end Josh Sweat had quarterback sacks and the Eagles controlled the line of scrimmage. The Eagles had those 163 yards on the ground after the Week 1 total of 216 yards and, if you had any doubts, don't. Slay recorded two interceptions – one at the goal line and one in the end zone – and had five passes defensed. "We ran for a first down there just to get some room and then it was on Jalen and he stepped up and delivered," tight end Dallas Goedert said. The list of standouts starts with quarterback Jalen Hurts because he was magnificent in every way from the very start of the game. Instead of killing the clock and preserving a two-touchdown lead, Head Coach Nick Sirianni had Hurts drop back and wing it. In their second game of the year, the Eagles gave them all exactly what they wanted: A wire-to-wire win in a national-spotlight moment, 24-7 over the Vikings that felt every bit as good as the final score.

Yes, these same Eagles who were once valued at 40/1 to win the title when odds were posted are now just +1100 (11/1) at BetMGM as of early Tuesday morning. He completed 17 of 20 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown and rushed seven times for 50 yards and two more scores before the break. ESPN attempted to riff on the popular show during the game , but the animation they put together can only be described as weird. The first half was a near-perfect 30 minutes of play-calling and execution as the offense gained 347 yards and scored all their points. Jalen Hurts took his play to another level Monday night, dicing up the Minnesota Vikings through the air and plowing over defenders on the ground as the ...

He's one of our of captains, one of our leaders, and he lives the theory of getting better every day. He became the first player in NFL history to have an 80-plus completion percentage, 300-plus passing yards and two rushing TDs in a single game, per NFL Research. Through two weeks, the 24-year-old answered that with a resounding yes. He is further into his process, and we're talking about getting better every day and he lives that. Why is he going to continue to reach his ceiling? Through two weeks, Hurts has displayed difference-making talent as both a runner and passer.

Eagles CB Darius Slay reminds world he's 'still at an elite level' with ... (NFL.com)

Big Play Slay earned his moniker Monday night. The Eagles CB earned five passes defensed and two interceptions, both in the red zone, against the Vikings.

"I take no matchup lightly, but he is one of the best in the world," Slay said of Jefferson. "I am one of the best in the world, too. "There were different disguises, different coverages, but make no mistake about it, a lot of it was to stop No. I deserve a lot of respect in this league," Slay said, via the official transcript. Slay lined up against Jefferson on 36.2 percent of Jefferson's routes, per Next Gen Stats (most by any Eagles defender in the game). Slay earned five passes defensed and two interceptions, both in the red zone.

Week 2 Eagles grades by position after win over Vikings on MNF (NBC Sports)

Here's a look at position-by-position grades after the Eagles' 24-7 win over the Vikings on MNF. By Dave Zangaro.

Give a ton of credit to offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, who has now done a very good job of play-calling in back-to-back games. The Eagles did have a field goal blocked, which wasn’t good, but credit to Siposs for running it down and saving a touchdown. After a shaky performance in the opener, Edwards rebounded in a big way. He spent most of the evening matched up 1-on-1 against Justin Jefferson and dominated. In the run game, the Eagles completely shut down Dalvin Cook, who had just 6 carries for 17 yards. The OL was guilty of a few too many penalties (they were flagged for seven!), but they blocked well enough for Hurts to have plenty of time in the pocket. The Eagles sacked Kirk Cousins twice in this game with the Sweat sack coming on the last play. Brown had 5 for 69 and Quez Watkins had 2 for 69, including a 53-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter. Brown had a great performance in the opener in Detroit. The running backs didn’t have much of an impact on the passing game. It wasn’t an incredible performance, but Sanders put in a good day’s work, averaging 4.7 yards per attempts. This felt like a game where Hurts really took ownership of the quarterback position in Philly.

Eagles' Miles Sanders quietly stacks together another big game (NBC Sports)

He's flying under the radar because of big games from other big names, but Miles Sanders has started 2022 off about as strong as anyone could've hoped for.

He’s also only the third Eagles running back to open a season with two games with 80 or more yards and a 4.7 average. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert get the headlines, the running game is a huge part of what the Eagles want to do offensively, and a healthy Sanders is the centerpiece of that ground attack. He’s off to a good start, and this is only the fourth time in his career he’s had consecutive games with at least 80 yards. There’s also the future to think about. And this passing game to loosen up defenses? Remember how he used to dance around looking for the home run?

Eagles Stats: An unprecedented achievement for Jalen Hurts and ... (NBC Sports)

Lots of ridiculous Jalen Hurts stats, the rarity of a scoreless second half, big-time offensive numbers and lots more in this week's edition of Roob's ...

Last time the Eagles picked off three passes in the second half of a home game was in 2004, when they actually picked off Jake Delhomme four times in the second half of a 30-8 win over the Panthers at the Linc. Randall Cunningham had a 52-yarder against the Patriots in 1990 at the Vet and a 33-yarder against the Oilers in 1988. With TD drives of 82, 82 and 85 yards, this was the first time in nine years the Eagles had three touchdown drives longer than 80 yards in the same game. Goedert last year was 5th in the league – and first among tight ends – with 10.9 yards per target. In 1981, they began the season with 398 rushing yards in wins over the Giants and Patriots. They’re only the sixth team in NFL history with at least 375 rushing yards and 550 passing yards after two weeks. The Eagles are also only the second team in NFL history to net over 900 yards the first two weeks of the season with just one TD pass. The Eagles netted 455 yards against the Lions and 486 against the Vikings, only the second time in franchise history they’ve gained 450 yards in each of their first two games. This was the first scoreless second half in an Eagles game in 20 years. It also happened, oddly enough, in 2012, when they opened the season almost identically with 456 yards in a win over the Browns and 486 in a win over the Ravens. In the Eagles’ win over the Vikings, Hurts became the first quarterback in NFL history to complete 84 percent of his passes and rush for two touchdowns. Hurts also became only the 16th QB in history to complete 84 percent of his passes and throw for 330 yards in a game.

Hurts was able to consistently take advantage of the soft coverage the Vikings’ secondary gave him. The Eagles controlled the tempo from the start.

Phillies enjoyed rare chance to attend Eagles game (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

More than 15 Phillies were at the Linc, including Bryce Harper, who used Mike Trout's seats.

He will not have gone on a rehab assignment, but Thomson doesn’t believe that it will result in the same results the Phillies saw from their ace in April. Thomson said Eflin feels “fine,” but the Phillies had him throw off a mound on Tuesday to see how that feels. For Stott, it was a chance to support the local NFL team in a way they normally aren’t able to during the season. Wheeler had a 5.79 ERA for the month of April. If all that goes well, he could progress to overhand batting practice in the indoor cage. So, when they realized that the Eagles would be playing the Vikings at home on Monday night, some players arranged to go together.

What the Eagles are saying after Week 2 win over the Vikings (Eagles Wire)

Here are the top quotes from the post-game presser. Nick Sirianni on Jalen Hurts. Mandatory Credit: Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports.

We were going to get to the line and go tempo. I am one of the best in the world, too. I take no match-up lightly, but he is one of the best in the world. I thought it was a good opportunity.” Everything in this game that we do if you want to have success you have to number one – be on the same page. That’s the first thing that you have to do. “It’s the first time it’s ever been this way since high school and in high school I saw the benefits of it. To be able to come out here and perform at a high level as a team, that’s big for us. To perform at a high level and still leave so much money on the table. I think as a whole, as a team, coming out here and playing on Monday Night Football. Last week I talked about the inconsistencies and the urgency and the communication and the operation. The one, I know it was only four yards out, but it reminded me of that New Orleans one he made last year.
