Texas plans to appeal targeting call against LB DeMarvion ... (247Sports)

As it stands, Overshown will be forced to sit out of the first half of the Longhorns' Big 12 opener at Texas Tech next weekend.

Along with registering a team-high 1.5 tackles for loss and forcing a fumble, one of three tackles against UTSA for the 2021 FCS All-American from James Madison was a critical tackle of Harris to a force a fourth-and-1 early in the fourth quarter, a play where [Keondre Coburn](//247Sports.com/Player/Keondre-Coburn-85929)’s pressure forced Harris to rush a throw, which fell incomplete and turned the ball over to the Longhorns on downs. The linebackers have helped lead a defensive resurgence under Kwiatkowski that’s seen the unit allow only two red-zone touchdowns on seven opponent possessions through three games and score two defensive touchdowns, including an interception [Jahdae Barron](//247sports.com/Player/Jahdae-Barron-46082207) took back 44 yards for a score in Saturday’s victory. 1 Alabama where [Overshown was flagged for targeting Crimson Tide quarterback](https://247sports.com/college/texas/Article/Reggie-Bush-Alabama-Texas-safety-no-call-maybe-the-worst-call-Ive-ever-seen-193171430/) [Bryce Young](//247Sports.com/Player/Bryce-Young-93127), the officials in Saturday’s game decided to take a second look at Overshown sacking quarterback [Frank Harris](//247sports.com/Player/Frank-Harris-82101) for an 8-yard loss on a third-and-8 early in the fourth quarter and, ultimately, [ejected him from the game after determining he committed a targeting foul](https://247sports.com/college/texas/Article/Texas-Longhorns-LB-DeMarvion-Overshown-ejected-for-targeting-against-UTSA--193623414/). The process of appealing starts with Texas notifying the conference, who would then submit a request to Steve Shaw, the national coordinator of officials for the NCAA. Overshown, who recorded 10 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and broke up a pass now faces a possible suspension for the first half of the Longhorns’ Big 12 opener next Saturday at Texas Tech (2:30 p.m., ESPN). [DeMarvion Overshown](//247sports.com/Player/DeMarvion-Overshown-46036740) found himself at the center of a controversial targeting call, but the infraction levied against him in Saturday’s 41-20 win over UTSA carries lingering consequences.

'We Would've Clinched': Bijan Robinson Details Longhorns' Rise ... (CalBearsMaven)

The Texas Longhorns are only three games into the season, but have proved they've come a long way from last season.

It's that leadership and that player-led team that we have and just the love that we have for each other." "We learned so much from last year and as much as it hurt. Robinson obliterated the UTSA defense with 20 carries for 183 yards and three touchdowns. The Longhorns had been hit in the mouth and, given the performance of last year's team, seemed ready to run for cover. Bijan Robinson took over and the Longhorns didn't look back for a second in an eventual 40-21 win. It was a streak that saw the team blow a double-digit lead in three consecutive games against ranked conference opponents, including a 28-7 lead over the Sooners.

How the Texas Longhorns graded out in their 41-20 win over UTSA (Austin American-Statesman)

Saturday's win over UTSA was a mixed bag for Texas. The Longhorns fizzled out of the gate, found themselves tied at halftime in a game they were favored to ...

Ryan Watts was flagged for pass interference in the end zone — UTSA went on to score to go up 10-7 — and gave up a touchdown pass on UTSA's next drive that put the Roadrunners up 17-7. D'Shawn Jamison broke up a third down pass into the end zone to force UTSA into a short field goal on the Roadrunners' first drive, and he broke up a third down pass to force a punt in the third. But one of the most glaring parts of Texas' slow start was the play on the defensive front. Another strong game for Jaylan Ford, who finished with 15 tackles and was Texas' leading tackler for the second straight week. This should have been a real mismatch — UTSA's starting right tackle was lost for the season in the opener, and its new right tackle was injured on the first drive and was replaced with a walk-on. The running game averaged 8.3 yards per carry, bumped up by Robinson's 78- and 41-yard scoring runs and a 32-yard gain from Roschon Johnson. After such a promising season opener, when he splashed with six catches for 85 yards and a touchdown, the last two weeks have seen major dropoffs — three catches vs. It's now time to wonder if the tight end position has dropped into the same black hole it's been in the Texas offense for years. Worthy led the team with seven targets and Jordan Whittington had five. This was Robinson's first 100-yard game of the season. Saturday's win over UTSA was a mixed bag for Texas. This may have been Steve Sarkisian's easiest opening game script ever: Texas' first four plays were Bijan Robinson runs right up the middle.

The senior linebacker will miss the first half of the Big 12 opener against Texas Tech unless the conference reverses the targeting call against him.

So we’ll take a look at it on tape and then try to send it in and see what the league says,” Sarkisian said. 4 overreactions from Texas football's gritty win over UTSA (Hook 'Em Headlines)

Texas football got a big win over UTSA on Sep. 17 at home thanks to a big night from the trio of Hudson Card, Bijan Robinson, and Roschon Johnson.

Card is doing what is needed for Sark and the Longhorns to make it through this tough stretch of injuries in the quarterback room. After UTSA went up by 10 points early in the second quarter, Texas would rally by a score of 34-3 in the final 38 minutes of the game. When UTSA held a 10-point lead over Texas, there was some level of anxiety that the game was starting to get away from the men in burnt orange.
