Tampa Bay Buccaneers Week 2 preview: New Orleans Saints (The Pewter Plank)

Here is a look at the second game of the 2022 season for the Buccaneers as they face off against the New Orleans Saints in a tough matchup.

Kamara is a game changer that the New Orleans offense can run through both in the run game, and as an option receiving the ball out of the backfield. If Kamara is unable to play, or is limited, the Saints will likely turn to Mark Ingram II, along with utilizing Taysom Hill in some versatile ways to get the offense going. His top target in the first week was not the prime veteran Michael Thomas, it was not the potential breakout rookie Chris Olave…. While their offense is on the field, a lot will depend on the playing status of their top running back Alvin Kamara, who is dealing with a rib injury after their win over Atlanta. The Saints, like Tampa, won their first game of the season, but they did it in a 1-point, come from WAY behind victory against Atlanta. They came back from 16 points down in the start of the fourth quarter, but let’s be honest, they should have never been down if we are comparing their talent level to Atlanta’s.

Gameday Preview: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New Orleans Saints (Sports Illustrated)

Injuries and strong defensive play on both sides could be the story in this much anticipated Week 2 divisional matchup.

Familiarity with the opponent. This week 2 matchup between the Saints and the Buccaneers has it all. Similar to the Bucs, they’ve got elite talent at every level, continuity with each other, and the system, as well as a fantastic defensive play-caller in Dennis Allen. You can expect Dennis Allen to dial up a lot of pressure, and aim his attack specifically at that vulnerable section of the Buccaneers’ offensive line. The Bucs put on a defensive clinic vs. The Saints have their own injury issues.

Countdown to Kickoff: Bucs-Saints, Week Two 2022 (Buccaneers.com)

On Sunday, the Bucs will face one of the league's best return men in Deonte Harty, who has a tendency of gifting the Saints favorable field position. Since the start of the 2021 season, the Bucs have blitzed on 35.2 percent of dropbacks, second-highest in the NFL, and pressured quarterbacks on 33.5 percent of dropbacks, fifth-highest in the league. Davis is difficult to block and whether it is a down lineman or Fournette picking up the blitz in a one-on-one scenario, keeping Brady clean in the pocket is vital. New Orleans ranked last in the league in points scored on the first possession in 2021. The New Orleans defense ranked 30th in the league in plays of 10-plus yards given up, with the Giants (31) and Texans (32) coming in behind last season. A year ago, New Orleans allowed the fourth fewest points in the league, ranked seventh in yards allowed and fourth against the run. Tampa Bay has not won a regular-season game in the series against New Orleans since the opening week of 2018, with the Saints taking the next seven. The rest of the guys, we'll see on Sunday." New Orleans did not register a sack in Week One versus Atlanta, but the unit will be looking to take advantage of the Bucs' shuffled offensive line. The unit allowed a passer rating of 67.78 when collapsing the pocket. Although it is only Week Two, it is a battle for first place in the NFC South. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face their nemesis, the New Orleans Saints, on Sunday afternoon in the first of two division matchups this season.

In the second half, a brawl that resulted in the ejection of Mike Evans and Marshon Lattimore was the catalyst for the offensive outburst and the ultimate demise of New Orleans. The Saints were able to shut the Bucs out for the first half, while they managed just three points going into halftime for themselves.

Tampa Bay Bucs at New Orleans Saints: Week 2 Gameday Inactives (Bucs Nation)

Chris Godwin and Alvin Kamara headline the list of players not playing in Sunday's game.

The Bucs and Saints kickoff inside the Caesers Superdome in New Orleans at 1:00 p.m. For the Bucs, keeping Tom Brady upright against a Saints pass rush that has had his number over the last two seasons is crucial. New Orleans elevated Latavius Murray earlier this week in preparation of Kamara missing the game - but also because backup running back Mark Ingram was limited through the week with an ankle injury. The other big name missing a pivotal division matchup is left tackle Donovan Smith, who is out with an elbow injury. [Tampa Bay Buccaneers](https://www.bucsnation.com/) are already without wide receiver Chris Godwin - and after missing most of practice this week, Julio Jones was going to test out his injured knee in pregame before the team made a decision as to whether or not he would play. While the Bucs have kept Kamara in check in the running game, the threat of him as a pass catcher is a key for the Saints’ offense.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New Orleans Saints: Prediction ... (Pro Football Network)

Here's a preview of Sunday's Week 2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New Orleans Saints matchup, including predictions, key injuries, and how to watch.

- G Aaron Stinnie (injured reserve)RB Kenjon Barner (injured reserve) - Passing: 234.0 (15th) - Scoring: 27.0 (sixth) It was Brady’s first shutout since the 2006 season. - Scoring: 19.0 (24th) They’ve played each other 61 times since 1977, including twice per year since the NFL’s divisional realignment in 2022. In contrast to 2021, Winston now has three reliable receivers: Michael Thomas, Chris Olave, and Jarvis Landry. But Brady’s largest issue is on the other side of the field, where Saints defensive-coordinator-turned-head-coach Dennis Allen has Brady’s number. Things won’t be as easy against the Saints, and that starts with Tampa’s deteriorating injury situation. Tampa Bay’s defense shut down Dallas’ offense, and four Ryan Succop field goals were enough to keep the Buccaneers ahead until a fourth-quarter Mike Evans touchdown slammed the door for good. Saints matchup, the key injuries, and predictions from our Here’s our breakdown of the Buccaneers vs.

In Week 15 last season, the Bucs were shut out 9-0 at home -- the Bucs' first shutout since 2012 -- and Brady tossed one.

New Orleans Saints vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers game recap: Everything we know after a brutal 20-10 loss.

0 The Panthers aren’t any good, but they beat the Saints at home last year and New Orleans won’t win many more games if their offense continues to flail around like it did on Sunday. Winston threw two more interceptions, one of them returned 67 yards for a defensive score, adding to a total of five turnovers on the afternoon. Mike Evans cheap-shotted Marshon Lattimore, starting a fight that got them both ejected. - Safety Marcus Maye also received attention in the tent but left the game and was escorted to the locker room by a member of the training staff. Too often he was tentative to tuck the ball and run for an easier first down than he tried to find through the air.

Bucs overcome injuries to snap seven-game losing streak to Saints (NFL.com)

The injury-plagued Bucs channeled their championship DNA on Sunday to snap a seven-game skid to the Saints, Jim Trotter writes. But can Tampa continue to ...

But it is not a reach to say it was not one of his better performances, just as it was not one of Brady's better performances. He made just two stops on his way from the field to the locker room afterward -- he signed a banner that a fan lowered from the railing, and then hugged Evans, who had come out to greet his teammates. "Coach (Byron) Leftwich says it's going to be a six-second fight, and on that play I had to pick up a damn three-tech by myself," Fournette said of the Brady-to-Perriman scoring strike. For players like him, the challenge of what awaits tends to take precedence over the immediacy of the moment. It would be harsh to say Winston of Now reverted to the Winston of Old, when he was known more for his turnovers than his touchdowns. Two plays later, edge rusher [Cam Jordan](https://www.nfl.com/players/cameron-jordan/) was called for holding on second-and-8, giving the Bucs another first down. They lost replacement tackle [Josh Wells](https://www.nfl.com/players/josh-wells/) (calf) and defensive tackle [Akiem Hicks](https://www.nfl.com/players/akiem-hicks/) (foot) to injury just before the half. It was uncharacteristic for Winston on the afternoon because he had played so efficiently, if not conservatively, up to that point. [greatest to ever play the game](https://www.nfl.com/news/sidelines/taking-on-tom-brady-nfl-defenders-coaches-share-what-it-s-like-to-face-the-g-o-a). Jamel Dean Sparks Huge Fourth Quarter as Bucs End Saints' Streak (Buccaneers.com)

An emotional scrum and a momentum-changing interception by Jamel Dean led to a series of big plays in the fourth quarter as the Bucs pulled away for a 20-10 ...

Two plays later, Dean came up big again, intercepting a deep pass that was intended for tight end Juwann Johnson and returning it 24 yards to the Saints' 29. The Saints' next drive gained no yards on three plays and a penalty on the home team on the punt gave the Bucs a drive start of their own 43. Another penalty on the Saints' defense, a holding call on Shy Tuttle made it first and goal at the 33 and Fournette bashed his way through multiple defenders for five yards and, two plays later on third-and-five, Brady slid to his left to buy time and launched a deep pass to Perriman, who outmaneuvered P.J. Dean maintained excellent coverage and was able to leap in front of the receiver and haul in the interception. The Bucs initially had another first down on a nifty end-around by Miller but Darden was called for holding and that made it second-and-16. With Brandon Walton stepping in for Wells at left tackle, the Bucs started the second half with the ball and got a quick first down on a crossing route to Evans. The defense appeared to force a fourth-and-inches at the 40 but David was flagged for unnecessary roughness, giving the Saints 15 yards and new life at the Bucs' 45. A mishandling of the snap put the ball on the turf and the Saints recovered at the 25. The Bucs faced another third down moments later but Brady once again kept the drive alive, this time with a pass over the middle to Evans down to the Saints' 35. The Buccaneers improved to 2-0 in 2022 and took over first place in the NFC South over the 1-1 Saints. Two defensive penalties helped keep the ensuing drive alive and Brady finished it off with the third-down scoring pass to Perriman in the back corner of the end zone. That very satisfying fourth quarter, which also featured Tom Brady's stunning 28-yard touchdown pass to Breshad Perriman on the drive after Dean's first pick, snapped a series of frustrating afternoons and evenings that included seven straight wins by the Saints in the regular season.

A "game within the game" in the last five years has been the battle between Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore and Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans. When the dust settled, the Saints turned it over five times to the Bucs' one, a ratio that makes winning in the NFL virtually impossible. A would-be Saints score turned into no points, and led to barrage of Saints turnovers in the final 13 minutes which ultimately led to the Saints demise. D Up: The New Orleans Saints came up short in the 20-10 loss Sunday, but it wasn't because of the play of the defense, which gave the Saints a chance to win up until the end. Self inflicted wounds: This game was there for the taking, even after the Bucs tied it at 3 midway through the third quarter, the feeling was the Saints still had the game under control. After a self-admitted rough outing last week against the Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans again stymied Tom Brady and the Buccaneers to only one offensive touchdown and two field goals.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints Game Recap (Bucs Nation)

The Buccaneers took on the Saints and Jameis Winston at the dome in week 2.

The two teams are set to square off again December fifth, that game will be in Tampa under the lights and may write a different story, but for Bucs fans this game should feel special. Week two, Buccaneers at Saints, is officially in the past now and the Bucs are tasting sweet salvation. While Perriman’s game was not record setting, it was a flexing of the depth that the Bucs do have at the position. The Bucs tallied multiple personal fouls early in the game and the lack of discipline combined with the overall chipiness of the game culminated with a massive brawl in the second half. He is a young player who has been on a steady incline since joining the Bucs in 2020 and back to back weeks he has been the Bucs most reliable tackler on the field with the ability to sprinkle in big impact plays. The Buccaneers started week two down their starting center, starting left guard and starting left tackle. Both Ryan Succop and Jake Carmada kicked well while the coverage units of the Bucs held the Saints returns in check. The Buccaneers defense has carried what has been a somewhat under performing offense through the first two weeks of this season. For the Buccaneers, however, this is a week two game against a division rival that represented more, it was a chance for the Buccaneers to turn the page. As with any game versus the Saints and with any NFL action there are certainly some expectations of the teams about to face off and the players on the field. The Bucs defense has been outclassing its opponents this season. The schedule makers decided that, in week two, the
