The Giants are looking to stay in the win column as they host the Panthers at MetLife Stadium. Follow here for live updates from the Week 2 matchup.

The return of Ben McAdoo: The last head coach of the Giants who won the regular season opener and started 2-0 will be in the building. Christian McCaffrey and the Panthers, I think we could see more nickel personnel playing in base (DBs) and a wrinkle or two on the edge with a guy like Cam Brown, who plays well in space on specials, getting a chance with a handful of defensive snaps. Which side would you want to see come through the tunnel in Week 1? Baker Mayfield ended up finding Moore in the back of the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown on which Flott appeared to slip at the top of the route. They don't have a yard on the ground as a team in the first half against Carolina, and Saquon Barkley has been completely held in check. The Giants (2-0) faced a third-and-5 with just over 1:30 left, and Daniel Jones made a good decision on a bootleg pass with the option to run. Now it will be interesting to see how much the Giants integrate Toney into the offense, given his sporadic usage against the Titans with just seven snaps. Bellinger came underneath with Kenny Golladay - on the field for just his second snap of the game - and he was uncovered. The Giants forced a fumble on the opening kickoff when Carter Coughlin punched the ball away from Chuba Hubbard. Giants wide receiver Kadarius Toney will play Sunday despite being added to the injury report with a hamstring issue that led to his questionable status. Carolina threatened on its next possession, marching to just shy of midfield before a third-down sack by Julian Love turned the momentum in the Giants' favor. escaped with a 19-16 triumph over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.

New York Giants, Carolina Panthers Tied at the Half, 6-6 (NYGiantsmaven)

Giants offense unable to cash in on Panthers' first half miscues, settle for two field goals.

Giants running back Saquon Barkley, easily the star of last week’s win, had five carries for three yards. Carolina then settled for a 32-yard field goal by Pineiro to knot the game up at 6-6. Giants receiver Kadarius Toney, who only played seven snaps on offense last week, saw a slightly more significant role in the first half of this week’s game, getting two first-quarter targets he caught for no yards. But on a big 3rd-and-9, Mayfield’s pass over the middle intended for receiver Shi Smith was dropped in the end zone, and the Panthers had to settle for a 31-yard field goal by kicker Eddy Pineiro. New York then settled for Gano’s second field goal of the game, s 33-yard strike right down Broadway, which gave the Giants a 6-0 lead. Then on the Panthers' first offensive series of the game, they coughed the ball up again, this time on a 3rd-and-22.

New York Giants Receiver Richie James Writing His Comeback Story (NYGiantsmaven)

Giants receiver Richie James spent the 2021 season on injured reserve. But he's back and reminding the NFL that he's still a very serviceable player.

”Just from just listening to Tyrod, the dude's been through everything in his career, and I’m like, ‘How do you stay in this so long?’ He’s like, ‘Man, just understand, bro. In his Week 9 debut, he caught nine of 13 pass targets for 184 yards and a touchdown and would finish with 23 receptions out of 35 pass targets for 394 yards and the one score in 11 games. Recognizing that the majority of his teammates at his position were starting from square one regarding the playbook, James went to work. James finished the day with five receptions on six targets for 59 yards, both totals second among the Giants’ receiving targets last week. In the beginning, James looked like he was one heck of a value pick. When he hit it, he hit it. With Golladay, Toney, and Shepard all active for the Giants’ regular-season opener at Tennessee, James received 42 snaps or 70 percent of the offensive snaps, third most behind Shepard and Golladay, and not as strictly a decoy either. He fought off a bout with COVID-19 and a hamstring injury that landed him on injured reserve, returning to the roster in October 2020. But that wasn’t just a temporary thing for James. “He is a natural back there. So all that helped motivate me in working back from that injury.” But it was as a punt returner where James earned his money.

New York Giants Top Carolina Panthers, 19-16 (NYGiantsmaven)

East Rutherford, N.J.: The New York Giants got four field goals from kicker Graham Gano and some stellar defensive play as they handed the Carolina Panthers ...

The big play was a 14-yard run by Gary Brightwell on his first NFL carry for a big 3rd down conversion. Carolina was forced to punt on their next drive, but the Giants’ defense paid the price. The big play was a 24-yard pass from Jones to wide receiver David Sills. The Panthers struck back when multi-talented running back Christian McCaffrey broke off a 49-yard run. Although the offense went three-and-out, the Giants still got on the board with the first of Gano's four field goals, this one from 36 yards out. This time, the Giants offense moved the ball. Now behind 13-6, the Giants’ offense suddenly came to life, responding with an 8-play, 75-yard drive. After three consecutive possessions ended in punts, the Panthers had great field position at the Giants’ 48-yard line. The Giants had a scoring opportunity right from the game’s first kickoff, as Carter Coughlin forced a fumble from Carolina kick returner Chuba Hubbard. The Giants mustered just enough offense in a hard-fought defensive struggle to win. It wasn’t long before the Giants got their next takeaway. Quarterback Daniel Jones completed 22 of his 34 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown.

Takeaways from Giants' 19-16 Win Over the Carolina Panthers (Sports Illustrated)

The New York Giants are 2-0, their best start to the regular season since 2016. They also end the day in first place in the NFC East.

"I told him during the week that we were going to go with (Wide Receiver David) Sills (V). And the other guys got to be ready as backups." "It was a split-zone scheme, usually where I come back around and hit the defensive end," Bellinger said of his first NFL touchdown catch on which he had gobs of space to operate. For the second week in a row, the Giants defense held the opponent to 20 points or less in a winning effort. If you are among the people who read into that as Golladay simply packing up his office in anticipation of a showdown, let me shed some light on the situation. Again, we gave up that one big one and squirted out there later, but they tightened back up in the red zone," Daboll said. They punted four times and managed one field goal, the one that tied the game 16-16 at the time. A win is a win, but if the Giants are looking to win against the better teams down the road, the offense will have to get off to a faster start. At the end of the day, a win is a win. But not to be overlooked is that the Giants defense has been an absolute beast on third down conversions allowed. Saquon Barkley wasn't much of a factor in the first half, rushing five times for three yards. The offense needs to get off to a faster start.

Biggest takeaways from Panthers' Week 2 loss to Giants (Panthers Wire)

Although they did get running back Christian McCaffrey (19 touches, 128 scrimmage yards) more involved, this is still an uninspiring group that's desperately ...

In addition to starting the afternoon with [two consecutive fumbles](https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2022/09/18/panthers-fumble-giants-robbie-anderson-chuba-hubbard/), the offense mustered up just 275 yards while converting on only two of their 12 third down tries. That’s an indictment on both sides of the ball and is a particularly rough outcome considering it came from a team two years behind them in their respective rebuilding processes. That allowed New York to stick tight and squeak away with the win late in the fourth quarter. Someone, or somebodies, must make a real difference. Unlike their comrades, the defense actually looked formidable at times. So, in perhaps another exercise in futility, here are our biggest takeaways from the disheartening afternoon.

In the end, Cobb surrendered a pair of runs on four hits and three walks while recording three strikeouts. Freeman brought Turner home with an RBI single on a groundball through the right side of the infield to bring the score to 2-1. Brinson slipped on the wet grass in the top of the sixth, turning a routine flyout by Trea Turner into a lead-off double. Estrada had been running on the pitch and would have scored easily if the ball had stayed in the park.

How Giants DC Wink Martindale unfurled a masterpiece vs ... (The Athletic)

Martindale's aggressive, confident defense is wreaking havoc while the Giants offense is doing just enough to win.

[Xavier McKinney](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/xavier-mckinney-TwAGgFCH5JmPJIG9/) rushed alongside Fox and defensive tackle [Dexter Lawrence](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/dexter-lawrence-PPOxfW3uBslMjuk9/). The short completion got the Giants in range for [Graham Gano](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/graham-gano-jxKG3VHNaon1vJgg/)’s 56-yard field goal, which held up as the game-winner. He had a 36-yard catch erased by an offensive pass interference penalty on David Sills and had a bad drop on a pass in the flat. The Giants spent much of the game in a dime package with six defensive backs, including slot cornerback [Darnay Holmes](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/darnay-holmes-YOHbs3eHp7VNaFNv/) and Belton on the field. On their second drive, the Giants put Barkley in the wildcat for one play, then had no running backs on the field for the next play near the goal line. Barkley didn’t get deterred by the sluggish start and didn’t try to hit a home run on every carry behind poor blocking. “I thought they matched Saquon in the flat, saw a lane to run so I stepped up and ran. Later, he completed a 24-yard strike to wide receiver David Sills on third-and-10 on a series Gano capped with a 51-yard field goal to give the Giants a 16-13 lead early in the fourth quarter. He demonstrated the resolve to make some nice throws in the second half after the rocky start. The play-calling late in the game didn’t signal a coaching staff with a lot of confidence in its quarterback. “Wink’s not afraid of failure, and that’s really what we want for the entire organization is to not be afraid of failure, not to be afraid of the consequence.
