With a 2:25 pm MDT kickoff, the Broncos released their inactive for Week 2. KJ Hamler | WR]; Jalen Virgil | WR; Nik Bonitto | OLB; Josey Jewell | ILB ...
This is a stark reflection of where Bonitto is in his development. Meanwhile, Hamler and Meinerz are both injured, so this comes as little surprise. It's Denver's home-opener and the first time that the Orange and Blue faithful get to officially welcome and watch Russell Wilson do his thing as a Bronco.
Randy Gregory, DeShawn Williams and K'Waun Williams are all active for Sunday's game.
The Broncos will also be without offensive lineman Billy Turner, who was a full participant in practice all week but was listed as questionable. Jewell was listed as questionable for the game after missing practice on Wednesday and Thursday with a calf injury. DENVER — The Broncos will be without starting inside linebacker Josey Jewell for the second consecutive week, as the veteran defender was listed among Denver's inactive players for Week 2.
The Denver Broncos will host the Houston Texans in Week 2 action. Here are all the live updates from that game.

With a game under their belts and the roar of the home crowd behind them, the Broncos should be better equipped to get into the win column this Sunday. I do think the Houston Texans will give the Denver Broncos some problems though, especially Brandin Cooks. Key players for the Houston Texans defense will be Jonathan Greenard and Derek Stingley this week. Dre’Mont Jones gets two sacks this week and Randy Gregory gets his first sack as a Denver Bronco. Rex Burkhead saw the lion’s share of the carries last week with 14, and hyped-up rookie, Dameon Pierce saw just 11. With Josey Jewell in question, the inside linebacker group for the Denver Broncos is average at best. It happened last year in Baltimore, the Eagles had some success with it and now with Justin Simmons being out, I do think it is possible you see Cooks haul in a deep one for a touchdown. Discipline and communication will be very important if the Denver Broncos want to fix the woes that prohibited them from leaving Seattle with a victory. Roughly 40 rushing attempts from the Colts, I expect the Denver Broncos to have around 35. [ every statistical category](https://www.espn.com/nfl/matchup?gameId=401437655), the Denver Broncos dominated the Seattle Seahawks. Unfortunately for the Denver Broncos, the offense was unable to score 18. Houston gave up 517 total yards to the Indianapolis Colts, who led a strong comeback after being down 17 points. Houston was an undeniable underdog in this bout and not many expected this strong of a performance, but this Texans team will be better than what most expected.

The Denver Broncos have one of the better rosters in the NFL, but are largely failing at making necessary roster adjustments when needed.
I also think there is an embarrassing amount of depth in the cornerback room. Neither Rypien or Johnson have a legitimate case or evidence to serve as a backup QB in the NFL, but alas, those were the two who were vying for the spot. One of the absolute keys in the NFL is depth. I think in some cases, losses of certain players require doing more than promoting a practice squad player, who is on the squad for a reason. The Broncos held on to win the Texans at home in Week 2.
Denver settled for field goals on both of their drives that went deep into Houston territory in the first half. Wilson finished the game 14-of-31 passing for 219 yards with one touchdown and one turnover. In the first half, the Broncos’ offense struggled again in the red zone, a problem that carried over from their season opener.
The Denver Broncos opened the game up with the Houston Texans calling heads on the opening coin toss. It was tails, which gave Denver the option to defer ...
The two would close the deal on the next play with a touchdown pass to but Denver up. The Broncos defense would finally stiffen from there with a Baron Browning pressure outside to force a field goal attempt. Singleton would be picked on several times during this drive, but finally came up big on a pass breakup to save a touchdown. Wilson went deep on the next play to Courtland Sutton who was interfered with to set Denver up inside the five yard line. The drive would stall from there to force a punt. A good stop by Randy Gregory on third down again forced an early end to a Texans drive.
Week 2 of the NFL season features an oddly interesting matchup between the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans. Fantasy football managers have tough roster ...
The concerning prospect of playing Pierce is the ineffectiveness of the Texans’ run blocking. His likelihood of scoring a touchdown is higher, and therefore, he’s a more viable candidate to be an asset on your team. Those are reasonably attainable numbers if Houston holds true to their word and gives Pierce the majority of snaps. I think they will, but I am not overly optimistic he hits the rushing yards total if Houston falls behind early. This is not likely the best matchup to play him. [Underdog Fantasy](https://play.underdogfantasy.com/p-pro-football-network) have projected Burkhead to have 36.5 rushing yards, 18.5 receiving yards, and 9.75 fantasy points in half-PPR leagues. But like Burkhead, he’s more of a flex or RB2 option. I would lean toward the lower on the rushing total and fantasy point total but higher on the receiving yards. It was shocking to see Burkhead effectively receive a starting load of work in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts. But it’s hard to take the Texans seriously when it comes to player development, considering they continued to play old backs and receivers throughout a terrible 2021 campaign. They stifled a strong Seahawks run game to 76 yards and a 4.0 average. This would especially be the case if it were a bigger bye week.

Smith coached in Chicago from 2004-12, leading them to their most recent Super Bowl appearance at the end of the 2006 campaign. The Texans were also 2-13 on third down. However, the breakaway runs weren’t there and the Texans offense sputtered. Wilson threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to tight end Eric Saubert. The Texans generated 233 yards total offense — in the year 2022. Denver quarterback Russell Wilson was only better as far as morale is concerned; his stats were none better.
The Denver Broncos always seem to acquire a great quarterback in unconventional ways from other NFL teams, and this includes Russell Wilson.

Unfortunately, Denver came up short in a loss to the Cowboys. According to Pro Football Reference, the Dallas Cowboys selected Morton in the 1965 NFL Draft. After playing nine seasons in Dallas, he went to the New York Giants during his tenth season. He took the Broncos to two Super Bowls and won one. According to the After his second Super Bowl victory, a win over the Atlanta Falcons, he retired. It was no surprise the team jettisoned Tebow in favor of one of the greatest passers to ever play the game. The Baltimore Colts held the first overall pick, but Elway had no desire to play there. [Peyton Manning](https://www.sportscasting.com/tag/peyton-manning/) in 2011, the Indianapolis Colts bottomed out. This uprooted Tim Tebow, the unorthodox but effective QB who led them to the playoffs the prior season. Let’s take a closer look at how the Broncos have gone about getting their best QBs in past years as well as the impressive roster of signal callers they’ve had under center.
Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy injured his shoulder in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Texans.
Sutton stepped up with Jeudy injured, leading the team with seven receptions for 122 yards. [Apple Podcasts](https://apple.co/3H3B7xd) [Spotify](https://spoti.fi/3qh9KtA) [Google Podcasts](https://bit.ly/3o7jZOm) Before leaving the game, Jeudy totaled one catch for 11 yards on three targets.
The Broncos ruled out WR Jerry Jeudy and CB Patrick Surtain II for the rest of Sunday's 16-9 win against the Texans due to injuries.

Houston's defense recorded Wilson's first interception as a Bronco and added 2.0 sacks, seven quarterback hits, five tackles for loss and six passes defensed.
The Texans travel to Chicago to face the Bears in Week 3. With the loss, the Texans fall to 0-1-1 on the season. Denver took a 13-9 lead with 12:37 left in the game. The Texans held onto a 9-6 lead, but Russell Wilson and Denver's offense pulled away in the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run to victory. On his first play of the fourth quarter, Wilson found Sutton for a 35-yard reception on third-and-16. Neither team was able to find the endzone through the first three quarters of the game.
The Denver Broncos are absolutely depleted at the wide receiver position. Here are five options GM George Paton should consider immediately.
Unfortunately, we haven’t seen that since the handful of glimpses we got in his rookie season. [the Denver Broncos should sign Odell Beckham Jr.](https://predominantlyorange.com/2022/08/04/should-the-denver-broncos-target-odell-beckham-jr/) Yes, everyone understands he’s not going to be ready to go until November at the earliest. Second of all, it would give you another go-to receiver who can line up all over the formation to allow ultimate flexibility if you get everyone healthy. First of all, it would fortify your depth down the road this season. Simply put, anything the Broncos get from Hamler this season will be nothing more than a cherry on top of whatever production they get at receiver. He’s been inactive for the first two games of the 2022 season.
According to 9NEWS Denver's Mike Klis, the x-rays on Jerry Jeudy's ribs came back negative which is some good news. The initial reporting had Jeudy leaving ...
I would not be shocked if we see the Broncos potentially add to the position in the near future, or at least give Jalen Virgil a shot. He suffered the injury early in the game when he landed hard on his side/shoulder area and immediately was rolling around in pain. Hamler appears far from 100%, Jeudy is now hurt, and we’re one Courtland Sutton injury away from Kendall Hinton and Tyrie Cleveland being the Broncos' top receiving threats.
Quarterback Russell Wilson threw his first touchdown at Empower Field at Mile High as a Bronco when he found tight end Eric Saubert for the go-ahead strike with ...
Sutton was left open down the seam on the left side of the field, and Wilson hit him for a 35-yard gain. In the process, the Broncos survived more than a dozen penalties and injuries to key starters in Pat Surtain II and Jerry Jeudy to improve to 1-1. The defense then held on facing a pair of late Davis Mills-led drives from the Texans.
The only head coach I can find who was fired midseason and the team made the playoffs was Jon Gruden with the Raiders last year — and in his case, it had ...
If all we see is more indecisiveness, more lack of communication, and more penalties, it's going to be hard to make the case for him to stick around. If penalties are piling up like that, you do have to start looking at the coaching. Coaching decisions like that have nothing to do with whether or not you play your starters in the preseason. That already amounts to 30.5% of the Broncos' total 82 penalties for 2021. It's possible, though it's been the offense that has had the bigger problem. On the other hand, you at least can show you were decisive, rather than making people wonder whether you even knew what you were supposed to do. Too many times against the Texans, the Broncos looked like they didn't know what play they wanted to run or whether or not to go for it on fourth down. There are those who will ask whether the Broncos should have played their starters in the preseason. Not having your returner ready to take the field is inexcusable. That doesn't mean you can't hold Hackett's feet to the fire. The most frustrating thing was the Broncos lost a field goal attempt because of game management. In other words, fans shouldn't use the "fire coach midseason" tactic as if it's going to mean an instant turnaround better, particularly when the head coach has had just two regular-season games.
With a little coaxing from the home crowd, a strong defensive outing, Russell Wilson and the Broncos managed to defeat the Houston Texans.
They were already without wide receiver KJ Hamler (knee) who played 40 snaps last week but, according to Hackett, may miss time on and off early in the year as he recovers from knee and hip surgery and wide receiver Tim Patrick, who suffered a torn ACL in training camp, among others. With the lead finally in hand at 13-9 and set up first-and-10 at Houston’s 26-yard line with 4:36 to go, the Broncos threw the ball three straight times and took less than a minute off the clock before settling for another field goal and a 16-9 lead. We know in a game like that that the defense has to make stops and get the ball back to the offense. "That will make us more efficient on that one there. Denver has issues outside of the game management department, too. In six snaps from inside the 5-yard line, they ran the ball just once, saw Wilson go 0-of-5 and settled for two field goals. Their team struggling mightily in the game management department, they figured it couldn’t hurt to count down the play clock when their team was on offense. Houston ultimately had the ball two more times with a chance to tie the game. Maybe it’s the comfort of sleeping in your own bed or knowing that a long plane ride doesn’t wait after the game. "We just kind of made it hard on ourselves." “We started clicking once they started telling us the play clock. However, for first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett and company, questions have stacked up far faster than answers through two weeks.
There are no doubt issues that need to get solved but all that matters is Russell Wilson and the Broncos got the win.
Denver is now 0-for-6 in the red zone through the first two games. Mile High Salute to the fans for helping Wilson and the Broncos offense know the time on the play clock. The red zone continues to be a problem. Then, Hackett initially decides to go for it on fourth-and-2, but second guesses himself and sends out the field goal unit. Through two weeks, the Broncos still don’t look prepared. The play loses a yard. Hackett calls a handoff on third-and-1 from the Houston 35 ... And when Denver needed someone to step up and make a play, Gregory was there to deliver. He led the Broncos in tackles with 6 (5 solo). Wilson and the Denver offense didn’t look good through most of the game, but Wilson delivered his first “game-winning drive” for the Broncos. Denver’s tight end had only one catch but he made the most of it. Wilson also gets his first win as a member of the Broncos.
But it wasn't pretty. A series of game management miscues prompted boos from the Denver crowd in rookie head coach Nathaniel Hackett's home debut. Then in a ...

After a sloppy game, the Denver Broncos eked out a 16-9 win over the Houston Texans. Broncos Wire breaks down six studs and duds.
One delay of game penalty cost Denver a possible three points and brought on the punt team after knocking the team out of field goal range. McManus made three field goals and one extra point, making him 6-for-7 on field goal attempts for the season. More often than not, Sutton made the grab. Instead of running the ball, Wilson threw the ball on several occasions. One game with red zone problems was troubling, but something that could be worked out against the Texans. After having only seven carries against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1, Broncos running back Javonte Williams was more invovled this week, receiving 15 carries for 75 yards.

The Denver Broncos open slight 2.5-point favorites at home against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football in Week 3.
I don’t know how Hackett can fix all of these issues in a week, but he must if the Broncos are to have any chance of beating a well-coached 49ers team. The issues appear to be at the coaching level and that has to be a major concern for them as they host a much better football team in the [San Francisco 49ers](https://www.ninersnation.com/) in a prime time matchup in Week 3. The issues have been almost entirely through disorganization and slow reaction to in-game decisions. [Denver Broncos](https://www.milehighreport.com) got their must-win game last week, but it was every bit as ugly of a win as their Week 1 loss was. That lack of experience is showing up in a very bad way through the first two games. Update 8:45AM: The line has shifted since last night.

With Jerry Jeudy sidelined, Courtland Sutton embraced the spotlight as the Broncos' leading receiver when they needed it most.
"I feel like in order to be in that space an elite wide receiver, you have to be that guy that can make those big third downs and fourth downs. I want to be the guy he goes to on the big third downs and fourth downs so we can convert them and stay on the field. "He looks for those," Cleveland said. "Third and fourth downs, whenever we get in those situations, you want to be the guy that Russ is looking for," Sutton said. "He made some great plays for us. However, on the first play of the fourth quarter, Sutton put his few mistakes behind him and delivered as he had for much of the day.
Through two games, red zone and goal-to-go issues persist for Russell Wilson and the Broncos offense.
We just have to believe in the next one and the next one is going to be a touchdown. But how confidently we believe that when we’ve got our guys in the room rolling and doing our things, we just have to make those plays. We had a few the last game that he was maybe two inches — maybe a half an inch out of bounds on the spread right or whatever. There were definitely some things that we liked in the pass game because of how they put everybody in the box. “We’re just going to have to be sure we evaluate everything,” Denver head coach Nathaniel Hackett said to the media after the game. Given the success of that aspect of Denver’s offense, it’s a little puzzling.

Despite the win, the Broncos offense struggled with finishing in the red zone, penalties, and unfortunately an injury to a key player. “The thing about Damarri is it’s not too big for him,” Hackett said in his postgame press conference. A win is a win, but the Broncos have a lot of areas they need to clean up. On the day, the Broncos defense limited the Texans offense to 234 total yards, 80 on the ground and 154 yards through the air. A win is a win, but the Broncos have a lot of areas they need to clean up as a whole. With the defense forcing a Texans three and out, the Broncos offense needed a score. Dre’Mont Jones shined with two sacks on the afternoon, and Randy Gregory came up with a momentum-shifting sack late in the fourth quarter that pushed the Texans offense back. Facing a 4th and 11, Mills had one more chance but tight coverage from the Broncos forced an incomplete pass allowing Denver to hang on for the win. Late in the fourth quarter, McManus booted in a 50-yard field goal to give Denver a 16-9 lead. The Denver Broncos improved to 1-1 on the season after a 16-9 victory against the Houston Texans. A resounding theme on the day, flag on the play. The Broncos offense struggled to get things rolling during the first half against the Texans.
Technically speaking, the Denver Broncos won on Sunday in their matchup with the Houston Texans, but boy, it sure didn't feel like it.
That gap of 3.3 penalties per 100 plays between the most penalized team and the second-most penalized team is the same as the gap between the second-most penalized team and the third-least penalized team. The Denver Broncos didn’t win on Sunday because of the coaching, they won because of the talent on their roster, the lack of talent on Houston’s roster, and in spite of coaching. However, the rest of the coaching staff looks like a tire fire, and that might be an insult to tire fires. In regard to time management, the Denver Broncos burned through all three timeouts in the second half of Sunday’s game, and yet still suffered delay-of-game penalties, two of which came on special teams. Unfortunately, that strategy hasn’t been successful, as the Broncos now have questions surrounding the health of Jerry Jeudy, K.J. The forced fumble couldn’t have come at a better time either, as Houston was driving into Denver’s side of the field in the fourth quarter, with a chance to tie the game. Washington was consistently creating extra yards, on his way to returns of 12, 13, 15, and 19 yards on the day. This makes it two-straight games that the Denver Broncos have had a pass rusher record multiple sacks and force a fumble. Hopefully, the Broncos begin doing a better job of taking advantage of such performances. From the jump, the newly acquired Jones made his presence felt, helping to blow up a screen on first down and then making a good hustle play to hammer the running back short of the first down marker on third down. The first draft of this section opened with a lengthy rant about how painful it was to watch the Denver Broncos’ attack today, as everything seemed to come so difficult for them. Between that victory over Houston and last season’s win over Washington, Denver must own two of the ugliest wins in NFL history.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, cornerback Pat Surtain II is considered day-to-day with a shoulder injury he suffered during Sunday's 16-9 victory ...
The Broncos have been cautious with injuries so I do not expect that to change here, but hopefully, we see him out there and able to play vs. So it will be good to see the tape and see him execute.” The Broncos' defense cannot afford to have Surtain II miss any significant time, especially with safety Justin Simmons sidelined for a minimum of four weeks, so this news is encouraging.

We all had dreams of deep overs to Jerry Jeudy, stick it 8 post bombs to Courtland Sutton, and 42 points a game with Russell Wilson at the helm. Unfortunately, ...
We need to run the rock inside the five, and this is a former QB talking. We are two games into this season and if we are being honest with ourselves this Broncos offense looks nothing like we imagined. Similar to playing or coaching everything is better after a win, especially reviewing the areas that need to improve.
