I would just challenge the fan base, Husky Nation, to let's not have any limits to what it can be this season. "The other thing is just trying to show who our guys are, and realize that these are not just special players but people you want to root for and are fun to watch, and they have a fun time playing. "I guess the limit would be capacity. Even the Sounders have a strong fan base coming off a recent title run. Even for a Big Sky opponent, which typically has no chance of winning in Seattle — sorry, Montana — that was embarrassing when considering what was going on elsewhere around the country. The school announced an attendance of 57,518.
The Stanford Cardinal are on a bye week this weekend, however, their next opponent is not.
I predict it will be a close matchup with a good amount of points put on the board. He might be able to score on a strong defense but the ultimate question is can they score at the pace of the Huskies' offense? Jaxson Kirkland (OL) who is projected by many teams to be a mid-round draft prospect. Will a Tanner McKee lead offense be able to score on a stout defense like the Huskies? The Huskies are averaging 48.5 points per game, but the Spartans on offense can score the rock as well averaging 43.5 points a game. Sounds like it will be a hard time for both teams to score tonight.
With the Huskies up, 22-0, Michigan State twice converted on fourth down and capped a 15-play drive with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Payton Thorne to Keon ...
It was more of that for most of the half as the Spartans had no room to run and Thorne was under consistent pressure. It was similar to the problems Michigan State had last year as it offered little to no resistance to the passing attack. The lone bright spot for the defense was a goal-line stand late in the first quarter when they stuffed Washington on four straight running plays inside the 2-yard line. Broussard took a handoff from Thorne but right guard Matt Carrick was pushed well into the backfield, providing no place for Broussard to run. The defense was again short-handed and it showed early as Washington dominated. and the Huskies grabbed the momentum back on the following drive, going 65 plays in 1:18 and adding a touchdown to take a 29-8 lead into the halftime locker room.
On Saturday, the Michael Penix Jr.-led University of Washington football team took a little more time than that, requiring eight plays to get the scoreboard ...
He moved his team 65 yards in eight plays and threw a 17-yard TD pass to Polk in the left corner of the end zone with a bare four seconds remaining for a 29-8 halftime lead. Those two Spartans also hooked up for a two-point conversion pass and the UW lead was 22-8 with 1:22 left in the half. They got the ball back after stopping the visitors and moved 60 yards for a 19-yard scoring pass to running back Wayne Taulapapa, who made caught the ball on the 1 under heavy coverage and reached it over the goal line. He put his team on the Michigan State 3 with a 37-yard pass to tight end Jack Westover and two plays later handed off to Cam Davis for a 1-yard scoring run over left guard.

UW came out of it with just a field goal to go up by 4 scores. The 26 yard MSU touchdown brought it to 29-14 after a missed 2-pt conversion. MSU followed it up with a 2-pt conversion to make it 22-8. He then found Polk with 4 seconds in the half to send UW into the locker room up 29-8. Shortly after Penix connected with Ja’Lynn Polk in the end zone for a 7-0 UW lead. That resulted in a Husky safety and a 9-0 lead.
This is what the Washington Huskies wanted everyone to see: a dominant 39-28 victory over No. 11 Michigan State. Here are three impressions.
But on Saturday night, the Huskies stonewalled the Spartans who finished with just 42 yards on 29 attempts. They had more points (29-8), total yards (322-90), passing yards (278-80), rushing yards (44-10) and first downs (16-7). The Indiana transfer endeared himself to Husky fans with a performance for the ages that proved to be the main reason why Washington captured its biggest win in decades.
Former Indiana QB Michael Penix Jr. tortured Michigan State football again for nearly 400 yards in Washington's 39-28 victory in Seattle.
MSU also did not use either Berger or Broussard late, with Elijah Collins scoring a 1-yard touchdown run with 6:51 to play after Berger left for the sideline with an apparent injury. In the Spartans’ 40-31 home escape against the Hoosiers in 2019, Penix completed 20 straight passes at one point and finished 33-for-42 for 286 yards with three touchdowns. That included starting wide receiver Jayden Reed and defensive tackle Jacob Slade, along with safety Xavier Henderson for the second straight week. The junior evaded pressure deep in Washington territory, then found Keon Coleman for a 7-yard touchdown pass after the receiver looped around the end zone. That set up an 8-yard touchdown on a slant pass from Penix to Ja’Lynn Polk in front of safety Angelo Grose 3:38 into the game. The Spartans finished with 42 rushing yards on 29 attempts. The Spartans trailed 29-8 at the break. But running back Jarek Broussard slipped as he ran into right guard Matt Carrick on the next play for a safety that made it 9-0 Washington. Then in 2020 (with DeBoer departed for Fresno State), Penix picked apart MSU by going 25-for-38 for 320 yards and two touchdowns in an Indiana victory. Meanwhile up front, MSU’s offensive line was frequently blown off the ball, failing to establish a run game early. The Gophers (3-0) are coming off a 49-7 steamrolling of Colorado on Saturday. MSU (2-1), which lost its 14th straight West Coast regular-season game, dating back to 1958, heads into conference play next week for a 3:30 p.m.
The Huskies, in their third game under coach Kalen DeBoer, simply blew away No. 9 Michigan State with a passing game led by Indiana transfer quarterback Michael ...
The best of the group looks to be the Terrapins, who rallied past SMU at home Saturday with quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa throwing for two scores. Let's be very clear: Indiana, Rutgers and Maryland are not going to win the Big Ten East. He looked like the 2020 version Saturday and his four touchdown passes were too much for the Spartans and secured a significant top-10 win. However, Bowers should be in contention this year with way he is thriving in the Georgia offense. And while Nebraska has been piling up losses, the vast majority of them were by one score. The senior led the Hoosiers to a historic season in 2020 before suffering an ACL injury late in the campaign that appeared to linger last year.
A huge story in this game is the performance from transfer quarterback Michael Penix Jr. Penix hit for four touchdown passes in the win over the Spartans, ...
We saw that first point on film, on the second touchdown to Polk, where Penix slid to his left to buy time, before finding Polk in the back of the end zone for the score. Penix then snaps his eyes and his feet back to the left and hits his receiver in stride, leading to the 53-yard touchdown. The win saw Washington improve to 3-0 on the season, as their conference schedule is set to begin. His favorite target on the night had his own dose of praise for the quarterback. Beyond that, the win might also propel Penix into the draft quarterback discussion, as it is always evaluation season around these parts. Penix initially wants to target the quick glance route from the right slot receiver, but as he starts his throwing motion, he sees a flash of white, as the underneath linebacker slides into the throwing lane. He’s seeing the field and the line is time, he isn’t taking sacks. The defender is in good position to prevent a play, but Penix and Taulapapa are able to connect thanks to the throw. The velocity Penix dials up on this throw, combined with the pinpoint placement, gives Taulapapa a chance at finishing the play for a touchdown. A huge story in this game is the performance from transfer quarterback Michael Penix Jr. The first half was not done yet, and neither was Penix. Penix’s roll to the right draws the eyes of the defenders, and allows Polk to get behind the coverage.

To make such a beckon to the conference, and the nation, was more than exciting for Washington fans. On Saturday evening, however, the Huskies were a prominent college football program. It’s been a quick 180 for the Washington football program under its new administration. It was, after all, the first signature win for DeBoer and Washington’s new coaching staff, who have now improved to a 3-0 record with the Huskies. “[I have] so much confidence, and that just comes from my preparation, just trusting the play-calling,” Penix Jr. To say the 38-29 win was signature, however, would be an understatement. Just doing that, that just helps you be confident with the preparation. It definitely plays a huge factor, and the crowd came ready today.” “It definitely plays a factor in the game, just going out there, trying to communicate with each individual person, clock is ticking, you’ve got to hurry up and get the play off. In 1992, the home crowd broke the record for the loudest recorded college football stadium. Top-25 implications aside, Saturday’s win was the Huskies’ first over a team with a winning record since 2019. “The crowd showed a lot of love, they were real loud,” Penix Jr.
