Now we get to go to a harsh road environment in a loud dome. Purdue blew that game, and it only needed to be just a little bit better to pull off a win. If Purdue can prove itself on the road against a Syracuse offense that has been very good to date, it should bode well for the rest of the season.
Garrett Shrader hit Oronde Gadsden for a 25-yard touchdown with 7 seconds remaining to move to 3-0 on the season.

That same premise applied to Syracuse blocking Purdue’s only extra-point attempt of the first half. Shrader launched the ball off a flea flicker downfield to Damien Alford, who was in double coverage. Syracuse had two turnovers called back in the first half. The quarterback heaved the ball up and toward the front left corner of the end zone, where Gadsden caught it on the move while in coverage. Syracuse looked unrecognizable on both sides of the ball, but especially offense, for most of the game. While Shrader didn’t look anywhere as good as he did in SU’s first two games, the QB finished with three touchdowns and 181 yards on 13 completions. And once again, Durham found the soft spot in the zone coverage to put Purdue ahead of Syracuse 29-25. Jatius Geer and Derek McDonald got into the backfield on the first play from scrimmage after the score and O’Connell tried to throw the ball away to avoid the sack. However, Purdue’s kicker Mitchell Fineran missed a 41-yard field goal wide right with 2:53 to play in the 4th. Purdue also got the benefit of a penalty to extend the drive as Steve Linton lined up offside on a sack. Purdue cut the deficit to 25-22. The Orange went back to the rush to find success on the next drive. A couple of Shrader options and a great Tucker cut brought Syracuse to midfield, where they faced a 4th-and-1. The Orange settled for a 50-yard field goal from Andre Szmyt to put the first points on the board. The Orange also blocked the extra point to make it a 6-3 game after the first quarter. The upside is that the Syracuse defense adjusted with more pressure applied to O’Connell. Tucker and Shrader couldn’t consistently get past the defensive line to pick up at least four or five yards like the first two weeks of the season. Syracuse started with the ball to begin the game, but the offense went 3-and-out as Garrett Shrader overthrew Sean Tucker on two outside throws.
Week 3 of the college football season has been filled with blowouts, but thankfully, Purdue and Syracuse put on a show at the JMA Wireless Dome.
He also had 83 yards on the ground. With just 11 seconds remaining on the clock, Syracuse quarterback Garrett Shrader connected on a deep touchdown pass to Oronde Gadsden II. SYRACUSE — Garrett Shrader hit Oronde Gadsden II for a 25-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds left to lift Syracuse to a 32-29 win over Purdue on ...
He was much more effective in the second half, completing 9 of 19 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns. He completed 4 of 10 passes for just 35 yards in the first half. The Purdue quarterback had lots of time in the first half and threw for 175 yards on 21 of 27 attempts. "This is a spiritual-type game here," said Syracuse coach Dino Babers, who compared the end of the game to a rollercoaster ride. That touchdown happened with 8:17 left in the game. It was in the end zone and they scored on it," Purdue coach Jeff Brohm said.
Purdue football registered 13 penalties for 144 yards in its road loss to Syracuse on Saturday.
The box score shows a 32-29 Syracuse win and that brings the Orange to 3-0 with the Virginia Cavaliers coming to town on Friday night. Here are three takeaways ...
We expected Syracuse to lean on the running game behind a veteran offensive line but once again the opposing defense seemed to win the battle at the line of scrimmage. Now the Orange will have to keep this momentum going on Friday night against the Virginia Cavaliers. These are issues that Syracuse will need to keep working on as the season progresses. Standing in to make this throw to Oronde Gadsen II with the game on the line is something special. Instead Robert Anae dialed up a pass play that saw Gadsen fight his way through the middle, while Shrader stayed poised in the pocket. It was one of the areas I questioned coming into today as the first two weeks were (penalties aside) pretty-smooth for a Syracuse offense which never faced a deficit.
The Orange's game against Purdue was like a late-night bowl game featuring teams hovering around .500 after largely forgettable seasons, ...
Minnesota more than doubled up Colorado in yardage (500-226), and the Buffaloes didn’t score until the final 10 minutes. The Buffaloes (0-3) didn’t have the friendliest nonconference schedule, with a home game against TCU followed by trips to Air Force and Minnesota. The Salukis, two weeks removed from yielding 64 points to Incarnate Word, largely bottled up the Wildcats (1-2) after a pair of early touchdown drives. To that point, the Jaguars were averaging a robust 5.2 yards a carry (173 yards on 33 attempts). The Hoosiers are halfway to bowl eligibility after a harrowing escape. No one is going to confuse the Hoosiers for a juggernaut. But considering Nebraska (or, more specifically, its various donors) ponied up last weekend to pay a buyout to coach Scott Frost that would have shrunk by about $8 million on Oct. The Yellow Jackets still are, just not in the way anyone would want to be. Georgia Tech has a predictable opening loss to Clemson, a sluggish showing in a 35-17 defeat of Western Carolina in a short week and now a feeble 42-0 loss to No. But by Year 4, it’s largely on a coach to have things moving in the right direction. The Tigers’ 41-12 loss at home to No. One way to be a winner?

The Orange had Purdue’s number, holding them to nine first-half points and shutting them out in the third quarter. The game started rather slowly, with the Boilermakers taking a 9-3 lead to the locker room. After Caleb Okechukwu returned an interception 17 yards for a touchdown, the Boilermakers answered with consecutive scores.
On the next play, Jatius Geer pressured Aidan O'Connell and the Purdue quarterback turned it over to Caleb Okechukwu for a pick-six and the Orange were suddenly ...
While the first three quarters were anything but pretty, the end result was a Syracuse win and frankly that’s what matters most. All Syracuse needed was a couple of first downs to ice the game but they went 3 and out and only used 23 seconds before punting back to the Boilermakers. The good vibes were short-lived as O’Connell found Charlie Jones (11 catches for 188 yards on the day) for a 55-yard scoring strike to close the gap. The Orange had just taken the lead on a 4th and 1 pass from Shrader to Oronde Gadsen II that covered 46 yards and after Shrader’s conversion run, it was 18-15 Syracuse. Shrader and Gadsen connect again and suddenly Syracuse was in front. The kickoff being pushed back allowed Courtney Jackson’s return to set up the Orange at midfield.

[Sanoussi Kane](/roster.aspx?rp_id=10046) led the team in tackles with seven and one for a loss. The Boilermakers return home next Saturday for the annual Homecoming game for a matchup with Florida Atlantic. Durham also played a big part in the Boilermaker offensive attack against the Orange. Purdue's defense held quarterback Garrett Shrader and the Syracuse offense to just 134 total yards and a field goal in the first half of play. [Charlie Jones](/roster.aspx?rp_id=11620) continues to drive the Boilermaker offense. The teams traded touchdowns until O'Connell's first career pick-six gave the Orange a 25-15 lead with 8:08 left in the game.
