As Netflix’s doc explains, Chad Daybell believed that the world was imminently ending, and that he had the power to determine who had a “light” spirit, and therefore would survive the apocalypse, and whose spirit was “dark.” According to Daybell, the only way to exercise a dark spirit, which he called a zombie, was to kill the earthly body. After a nationwide search covered extensively in the media, Tylee Ryan, age 17, and JJ Vallow, age 7, had been found. Lori and Chad Daybell were each charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the deaths of Joshua "JJ" Vallow and Tylee Ryan. Vallow Daybell was also charged with conspiracy to commit murder in connection with her ex-husband Charles Vallow's death; Chad Guy Daybell was additionally charged with first-degree murder of his ex-wife, Tammy Daybell. She and Chad Daybell will be tried together in January 2023 and may face capital punishment if convicted of the murders of which they've been accused. Raymond said that Vallow Daybell believed she was one of 144,000 people who would survive the end of days. Vallow Daybell and Ryan separated in 2004 and divorced in 2005. But over the past three years, something went very wrong: Now Lori is in jail, waiting to stand trial for conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of her fourth husband, her fifth husband’s wife, and her two youngest children." She, along with husband Chad Guy Daybell, are accused of murdering two of her children, as well as in connection with the homicide of her ex-husband; Chad is also accused of murdering his former wife.

Alex Cox was also one of the last people seen with Tylee before she went missing in September 2019. She was charged with two felony counts of desertion and nonsupport of dependent children by prosecutors in Madison County, Idaho. The locker was rented by Lori Vallow. He was 51. Cox died of natural causes on December 12, 2019. Alex Cox is also listed in the Vallow-Daybell indictment as a co-conspirator in the deaths of Tylee, JJ and Tammy Daybell, according to ABC. Cox tasered Ryan and threatened to murder him. Lori thinks death is nothing. On July 11, 2019, Cox shot dead Lori's fourth husband, Charles Vallow. Video footage seen in Sins of Our Mother shows Lori Vallow and Alex Cox moving items in and out of a storage locker in Rexburg, Idaho, in November 2019, when Tylee and JJ had been declared missing. I'm telling you there is something wrong about Lori and Alex and this belief they have. As seen in Sins of Our Mother, he co-operated with the police on arrival, telling them he had shot Charles Vallow in self-defense and to protect his sister and niece Tylee.

On May 25, 2021, Chad and Lori were formally charged with first-degree murder for the deaths of JJ and Tylee. On January 25, 2020, officials located Chad and Lori in Kauai, Hawaii, and served the latter a court order requiring her to produce her children within five days. Despite the arrest, Tylee and JJ's whereabouts and safety were still a mystery. The following year, Charles filed for divorce as he grew more fearful of Lori's erratic and inexplicable behavior. At the age of 19, Lori married her high school boyfriend Nelson Yanes, but the marriage was short-lived and ended in divorce. Lori remarried in 2001 to her third husband, Joseph Anthony Ryan, wo is the biological father of her second child, daughter Tylee Ryan. Per Chad, "light" individuals were "followers of Jesus Christ" while "dark" individuals (also known as "zombies") were devotees of Satan. In 1995, at the age of 22, she married William Lagioia and had her first child, Colby Ryan. "And I was going to murder him; just thought I couldn't take it anymore.
