2024 Ford Mustang Has an Attitude and a Dash Full of Modern Tech (Car and Driver)

The new Stang still offers a V-8 with a manual, but now it also has a digitized dashboard and a drift stick.

The new Mustang is set to go on sale next summer. The Mustang also now has a flat-bottom steering wheel with a thicker rim and a slightly smaller diameter. What's neat about the latter is that they include what Ford calls Active Pothole Mitigation, which monitors the speed of the shocks and overdamps the system when it encounters a pothole. More noteworthy is the new electronic drift brake—not to be confused with the With GT models, the Performance package also includes brake ducts and an auxiliary engine oil cooler. The seventh generation has new brake packages, too, that go with the introduction of an electronic brake booster. Circling back to the Performance package, it's available on EcoBoost and GT models. One of the interesting new features Ford introduces on the seventh-gen Mustang is called Remote Rev. The driver's-side exhaust manifold has been updated, too, and the camshaft timing on the exhaust side has been revised. The EcoBoost engine has the most significant changes, which include better packaging, new fuel-delivery and ignition systems, a higher compression ratio, and an updated turbocharger, among other enhancements. Ford didn't just make the new Mustang's interior more tech-centric; it also improved the materials, something that plagued the previous generation. Most 2024 Mustangs have a massive glass panel that combines a 12.4-inch gauge cluster and a 13.2-inch touchscreen; the base model has the same size screens, but they're separated.

2024 Ford Mustang: This Is It (Jalopnik)

The seventh-generation S650 Mustang just debuted in Detroit with a naturally aspirated V8, a six-speed manual, and updated styling.

While Ford is making huge strides with the electric Mustang Mach E and F-150 Lightning, it’s clear that the automaker takes pride in continuing to offer a conventional V8 in its muscle car. The display is fully customizable, with instrument panel settings ranging from aggressive performance modes to a “Calm” mode that minimizes distractions — or a setting that recreates the look of the gauges in the Fox-body Mustang. [a Ford aftermarket item first offered for the Focus RS](https://jalopnik.com/for-just-999-fords-drift-stick-will-make-you-a-guarant-1820041593): A “drift stick” lever to actuate the electronic parking brake for tail-out hooning. Base models will have two separate screens housed in the panel, while Premier and GT trims get a full-width mega screen reaching from the instrument cluster to the center stack. We do know that the Coyote engine gets dual throttle bodies in the 2024 Mustang GT, which should boost power output, and Ford says the 2024 model will offer “the most naturally aspirated horsepower of any Mustang GT” (for context, the current most powerful naturally aspirated Mustang in the lineup is The engine choices for 2024 will be familiar: the 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo 4-cylinder, or what Ford calls the “most powerful 5.0-liter Coyote V8 ever.” Ford representatives told Jalopnik that exact horsepower and torque figures will be released closer to the launch of the 2024 model. Optional with the Performance Pack are MagneRide adaptive dampers, upgraded Recaro seats, and an active exhaust; GT models get a standard engine oil cooler with the Performance Pack. Meet the 2024 Ford Mustang, the seventh generation of the model that launched a movement. As always, the new Mustang will be available in coupe and convertible form. Eddie Kahn, the vehicle engineering manager for the new Mustang, told journalists this is the most aerodynamic Mustang ever. The first thing you’ll notice with this latest rendition of Mustang is the styling. The coupe’s roofline feels lower, which is likely just a trick of the eye.

Ford gave the new Mustang a mechanical handbrake, which for some people means the car is drift-able. The 2024 Ford Mustang is Technology Wrapped in Tradition (Newsweek)

Ford's ubiquitous muscle car might be the last gasoline vehicle standing as Dodge retires Challenger and Chevy gives way.

"The 2024 Mustang addresses two of the major pain points from the current model: interior and tech. "The move to a new electrical architecture that enables over-the-air updates and more advanced driver assistance system features is a big step forward for the new generation." This is stuff that we really want to embrace for the track experience. We also looked at our own lineup like the Ford GT for inspiration for stuff like Track Mode," Sandvig said. There are several options for looking at the tachometer and speed, while the central screen can display classic looking round gauges in three or five parts. So that's why we want to have a little bit of reference to that on the track icon. "That's a real-time render vehicle and that helps reinforce the selection capabilities throughout the custom modes. And what we're really proud of is the way this entire team blended the exterior interior and digital space all together." For the first time the Mustang GT will get a different front fascia than the lesser models. And we have a lot of international designers," Chris Walter, Ford exterior designer said at a press event. The 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will continue in the less expensive models while the iconic 5.0-liter V8 will find a home in the Mustang GT. "It has a proven recipe that Ford was careful not to totally rewrite in its seventh generation."

September 14, 2022 - From the styling to the tech, the seventh-gen Ford Mustang looks set to keep traditionalists happy while starting to build the bridge ...

It should keep its fans happy, possibly draw in a few new ones and prepare the way for whatever comes next in the model’s storied lineage. Make a couple of selections, and suddenly your latest and greatest seventh-gen Mustang has the green-and-white gauges out of a third-gen Fox-body Mustang. The mechanicals of the 2024 Mustang are as expected: a four-cylinder “base” model and a super-powerful V-8 in the GT. This is where Ford is trying to draw in younger buyers, building a bridge to what will likely be the eighth-generation Mustang. It’s an impressive update, and it looks good — this is the part that will please the traditionalists who want people to see them in something that’s immediately identifiable without looking for a badge. If that truly is the case, then Ford’s done a bang-up job in creating a pretty special finale for the fossil-fuel filly, updating and refining the iconic muscle car for one more go in its 20th-century-style gasoline guise.

This is one of the most head-turning Mustang designs we have ever seen, and the best thing is we get multiple engine and transmission options. There is every chance that this is the last of the pure internal combustion engine Mustangs. And this new 2024 Mustang certainly looks the part. Ford have also brought us a new race-inspired flat-bottomed steering wheel, to allow for that little more space as we get seated. Ford have made every effort to differentiate the EcoBoost and GT models. Wireless phone charging is now within the Mustang’s interior and there is a B&O sound system available too, for those who want the best audio quality possible within their Mustang. Ford don’t hide the fact that this is a heritage-inspired design, with the upper grille design shape influenced heavily by the original 1960s Mustang. Beyond that, the Mustang has an incredible sleek roofline, and a shortened rear overhang compared to the previous generation Mustang. Less power of course, but easier for a lot of people to handle. Ford says this will deliver the most naturally aspirated power of any Ford Mustang GT, partly thanks to the new dual air intake box and dual-throttle body design. [After a fair few months](https://www.hotcars.com/next-gen-2024-ford-mustang-unlike-any-muscle-car-before/) of speculation, [Ford](https://www.hotcars.com/tag/ford/) has finally [revealed the new 2024 Mustang to us all](https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2022/09/14/2024-ford-mustang-reveal.html).
