With over 40 minutes of new reveals, sneak peeks, and updates, this latest Nintendo Direct may be the best this year - especially for Fire Emblem fans.

Alongside the trailer, the game's Divine Edition was announced, which gives fans a host of physical collectible goodies on top of the base game.

'Fire Emblem Engage' release date, trailer, gameplay and preorder ... (Inverse)

'Fire Emblem Engage' is an ambitious new entry in the long-running strategy series, letting you summon heroes of past Fire Emblem games for help.

Interestingly, we also see that past Fire Emblem characters, like Marth, will inhabit the hub and can be talked to. The figures we see in the painting are all heroes from past Fire Emblem games, giving us a hint at some of the iconic figures that’ll be featured in Fire Emblem Engage. While combat looks pretty standard, the biggest new feature seems to be the “Emblem Rings” system that lets characters fuse with past Fire Emblem heroes. As the reveal trailer shows, there’s also going to be a bunch of original characters that join you in combat, on top of being able to link with past heroes. Surprisingly, Nintendo announced a release date right when it revealed the game: Fire Emblem Engage will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch on January 20, 2023. Nintendo says in its official description from Fire Emblem Engage. 'Fire Emblem Engage' is the Next Mainline Fire Emblem Title on Switch (Newsweek)

The return of the Fire Emblem series marks the homecoming of a fan-favorite character when 'Fire Emblem Engage' drops in 2023.

For right now, while you wait for the newest Fire Emblem game to materialize, there's a wide swath of Switch installments to play through. The Nintendo Direct trailer didn't shine too much light on the inner workings of Fire Emblem Engage, but there was plenty of gameplay to soak up during the presentation. Collect a series of Emblem Rings found throughout the world. It will come with a selection of additional bonus goodies, like a SteelBook case, art cards, an art book, and a poster. According to the announcement trailer, Fire Emblem Engage takes place in a world a thousand years after four heroes from four kingdoms worked to seal away a Fell Dragon. Fire Emblem Engage: Every Hero Appearing as an Emblem Ring ... (Game Rant)

The stained glass mosaic at the start of Fire Emblem Engage's trailer gives players a preview of which heroes they can summon with Emblem rings.

[representative from Fire Emblem Awakening](https://gamerant.com/fire-emblem-awakening-lucina-marth/). [representative for the Path of Radiance sequel](https://gamerant.com/fire-emblem-path-of-radiance-radiant-dawn-remake-leak/) in Fire Emblem Engage. Ultimate and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes](https://gamerant.com/fire-emblem-warriors-three-hopes-different-byleth-three-houses/), Byleth has quickly racked up almost as many game appearances as series staples like Marth and Ike. Micaiah is the first Fire Emblem lord to fight exclusively with magic, and joins Celica as one of the few magic-using Emblems in the game. The tactician will undoubtedly be a versatile Emblem for many characters with his flexible Sword of the Creator. Little is known about Leif’s appearance in Fire Emblem Engage, but his return to the franchise will be a victory nonetheless. This is probably to balance out the otherwise sword-heavy pool of Emblem characters and provide synergy with axe-wielding Fighters and Berserkers. [Fire Emblem Heroes notwithstanding](https://gamerant.com/fire-emblem-heroes-legendary-hero-sigurd-fated-holy-knight-trailer/). Though little is known about her in-game appearance, the strong-willed and kind-hearted Eirika will likely be an excellent Emblem for characters with high speed and skill. The least-surprising entry in this list, Marth seems to be the first - and most important - Emblem that players will receive. The two combine their strength to devastate an enemy soldier with the Ragnarok spell, so it is safe to say Celica will be a great Emblem for caster characters. Though details haven’t been fully revealed, the Emblem Rings promise to add another layer of customization beyond skills and classes.

The game doesn't come out until Jan. 20, 2023, but Nintendo and developer Intelligent Systems have already revealed a good bit about the game's special edition.

The best part of the Divine Edition for most fans will likely be the included art book. One of the more unique parts of the Divine Edition is its set of art cards. The initial Divine Edition reveal didn’t specify how many cards are in the pack, but there will likely be one for each hero. Also included in the Divine Edition is a large poster featuring a piece of the game’s key art, which can also be seen on the oversized box that the entire package comes in. Each card features art of a single hero from one of the series’ previous games, each of whom presumably makes an appearance in Engage. As of this writing, the Divine Edition isn’t yet available for sale, but it’s likely that it will appear on the market soon.

'Fire Emblem Engage': First Impressions, 'Toothpaste-Chan' Confirmed (The Mary Sue)

Well, the leaks were real: "Toothpaste-Chan" is the protagonist of the newest mainline Fire Emblem game, 'Engage.'

And no, this is not your pass to hate on the artist themselves. Sometimes, a character is good, a story is good, and that’s that–there’s no reason to drag it out longer than it needs to be. But there’s more graceful ways to do that, like how in Breath of the Wild, Link can find the attire of past heroes. The story seems lame, the designs are lame…like many others, I was just really hoping for something new and unique, like what we got with Three Houses. There are positives, though: the graphics do look really nice, and they make me wish they’d used this animation style for Three Houses. The world of Fodlan was fascinating and original, and its characters only fleshed it out more. It’s the sort of hyper-anime design that can really turn a lot of people off, especially in a series that, while utilizing a basic anime aesthetic, isn’t really known to be a “moe moe kawaii-chan” series. What really gets me, though, is the fact that this game feels more like a spin-off of the mobile gacha game, Fire Emblem Heroes, than an actual mainline title. Haven’t we already gotten that with the first Fire Emblem: Warriors Title? And yes, the inclusion of And a few months ago, some “leaks” were shared in the subreddit, featuring a fantasy-looking anime girl whose hair was half-blue, half-red. So I ended up just following the meme page, shitpostemblem.
