Appalachian State has a rich history, as the school won three FCS titles before moving up to FBS play in 2014. The team flew to Charlotte on Sunday morning. The team spent about three hours on Saturday night at the airport before returning to the hotel around midnight. With the hotel sold out, the team spread out in various hallways, conference rooms and the lobby area.
Texas A&M needed just two games to cue up its tired anthem: Wait 'til next year. Fifty games into his tenure, Jimbo Fisher is a pricier Kevin Sumlin.

The Razorbacks pose a bigger threat to Alabama on Oct. These are the type of grimy wins UT must secure to ascend in Josh Heupel's second season. And if you intend to drive in the hammer lane, you better keep the pedal down. With Hendon Hooker at the controls, Tennessee's offense has been a thing of beauty more often than not. 2 team in the SEC West was generous hyperbole for a program that didn't have a clearly defined starting quarterback. Fisher spent the offseason in the limelight after A&M signed the nation’s No. Tapping A&M as the No. He’s earning $9 million this year on a deal that runs through the 2031 season. After an embarrassing loss to Appalachian State last night, there's a lot of talk swirling around the Texas A&M football team and their quarterback.
Coach Fisher was asked after the game if there will be a change at quarterback for next week’s matchup against the Hurricanes. One of the main reasons King won the starting job out of camp was because he fit the mold Fisher was looking for when it came to being more aggressive on offense. In a season where things are supposed to start coming together, things have taken a big turn with an ugly loss to the Mountaineers. So now, the question is if Johnson will get a chance to start, or at least get considerable playing time against Miami this week. A few days before the season started, head coach Jimbo Fisher announced that [Haynes King had won the starting quarterback job](https://gigemgazette.com/2022/08/27/texas-am-football-haynes-king-qb1-2/) over LSU transfer Max Johnson and true freshman Conner Weigman. The Auburn Tigers managed to avoid that fate by pulling away from the San Jose State Spartans, but other SEC teams were not so fortunate. In the west, the then- ...
Every team from Alabama down to Ole Miss is technically tied, while [Texas A&M](https://aggieswire.usatoday.com/) Aggies were felled by Appalachian State, causing them to fall to No. In the west, the then-No.
Coach Jimbo Fisher should reevaluate the quarterback position after Texas A&M lost at home on Saturday to Appalachian State.
It’s obvious he does not have the confidence in his game to do so, certainly not at this stage in his development. The fact that Fisher is convinced that King is further along than Johnson is telling. If King is going to step up, the first thing he has to do is lead. But perhaps the most disheartening aspect of the game does not show up in the stat sheet. And maybe that should be the most disappointing aspect of the unforgivable loss. If anything, King regressed in Game 2 of his return to the starting lineup after an injury ended his 2021 season barely more than one game into it.
Following Texas A&M football's upset loss to Appalachian State, we share our takeaways from the Aggies' performance on Saturday.
A 1-3 start is not out of the realm of possibility, and that would be a disaster for the program. The only year the Aggies had a legitimate shot at the College Football Playoff was the COVID-shortened 2020 season, and even then, they couldn’t get past Alabama in the SEC West. Now that the Aggies lost one of those games, they could be in for a very rough road ahead. The second college football Saturday of the season is in the books, and what a day it was. The Aggies played host to Appalachian State, a school they paid $1.5 million to play them, in what should have been an easy win. Ideally, A&M’s first two games of the season would have been a warm-up for the true tests to come.
Aggie football fans who circled the game at Alabama on Oct. 8 might need an eraser, because by then the season could be over for all intents and purposes.
The unit got a pass last year because of injuries, but won’t this year. But after Saturday’s loss, the Aggies probably will be underdogs in three of those games. What you get by connecting the dots is A&M couldn’t dominate an average Football Championship Subdivision team and lost to a Sun Belt team. Former A&M coach Mike Sherman really never recovered from the 18-14 loss in his debut to Arkansas State, another Sun Belt team. The Tar Heels scored on nine of 13 possessions and one of them was a kneel-down. A&M obviously is not that, nor the 16th-ranked and it might not be the 26th-ranked team. Fisher doesn’t put this loss behind until he wins the SEC West or makes the CFP. A&M’s 17-14 loss to Appalachian State on Saturday was a kick in the gut to a program with College Football Playoff aspirations. The Tar Heels completed 24 of 36 passes for 352 yards and rushed for 230 yards on 35 carries. Had it won, the top-five ranked Aggies would be playing Miami this week in prime time after a day of basking in the national spotlight with ESPN’s College GameDay in town. That looks even worse after the Bearkats lost at home Saturday to Northern Arizona 10-3. The Mountaineers, 16.5-point underdogs on the road, made themselves comfortable in front of 92,664 frustrated fans.
The Associated Press released their Week Three Top 25 College Football Poll on Sunday with a lot of movement. Texas A&M fell 18 spots from No.6 to No.
