2022 NFL season kickoff: Four things to watch for in Broncos ... (NFL.com)

The 2022 NFL regular season is here! NFL.com's Michael Baca breaks down four things to watch for when the Seattle Seahawks host the Denver Broncos on Monday ...

[Al Woods](https://www.nfl.com/players/al-woods/), [Poona Ford](https://www.nfl.com/players/poona-ford/)and [Darrell Taylor](https://www.nfl.com/players/darrell-taylor/), Hurtt’s group was the bright spot of a defense that finished 28th in the league in yards allowed last season. [Jordyn Brooks](https://www.nfl.com/players/jordyn-brooks/), who takes over at middle linebacker following the exit of [Bobby Wagner](https://www.nfl.com/players/bobby-wagner/), has been waiting in the wings the past two seasons, and star safety [Jamal Adams](https://www.nfl.com/players/jamal-adams/)is itching to return to form assuming he’s been reading the middling reviews since his arrival. Acquiring defensive lineman [Shelby Harris](https://www.nfl.com/players/shelby-harris/)(via the Wilson trade) and pass rusher [Uchenna Nwosu](https://www.nfl.com/players/uchenna-nwosu/)(free agency) should only boost the Seahawks’ deep set of disruptors that offer a stout run defense and solid pass rush. [Geno Smith](https://www.nfl.com/players/geno-smith/)’s second chance. [Peyton Manning](https://www.nfl.com/players/peyton-manning/)retired (last playoff game was Super Bowl 50). Wilson takes over a well-rounded Broncos offense that consists of a stout rushing duo ( [Javonte Williams](https://www.nfl.com/players/javonte-williams/), [Melvin Gordon](https://www.nfl.com/players/melvin-gordon/)) and a talented receiving corps ( [Courtland Sutton](https://www.nfl.com/players/courtland-sutton/), [Jerry Jeudy](https://www.nfl.com/players/jerry-jeudy/), [KJ Hamler](https://www.nfl.com/players/k-j-hamler/)) that has really gone untapped considering the recent QBs in Denver. Wilson joins Brady, Manning, Favre and Joe Montana as the only QBs to win 100-plus games with a team and later face that team, and only Manning lost his homecoming (2013 at Indianapolis). The schedule-makers really did themselves in with Wilson’s first game as a Bronco taking place in Seattle on Monday Night Football, and it's a worthy setting for the occasion. Hackett decided to sit Wilson along with most of the starters throughout the preseason despite the Broncos offense learning a new system with a new quarterback over the summer. Mystery surrounds the rookie head coach’s offense with Wilson at the helm because it has yet to be revealed. Seahawks fans enjoyed a 19-5 home record in such games, and the 12s often did their part by disorienting opposing QBs and outright starting the decibel-measuring craze at NFL stadiums. The Broncos QB will have two chances to beat the Los Angeles Chargers (Week 6, 18) in order to officially join

Seahawks Unveil 2022 Team Intro Video (Seahawks.com)

Check out this year's intro video that will be played on gamedays at Lumen Field.

This year's Seahawks intro video focuses on the new, while at the same time lending a nod to what has always been and what will continue to be.... Elements of the Pacific Northwest embed themselves into the city's infrastructure, while the players become increasingly fueled by the springlike rebirth and optimism that is taking root in Seattle. While many changes have led us to this point, one constant has remained all along, the city of Seattle is intertwined with the Seahawks and the Seahawks are intertwined with the city of Seattle.

Betting tips for Monday Night Football -- Broncos vs. Seahawks (ESPN)

Our betting experts answer some of the most pressing questions surrounding Monday night's matchup between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle's defense will definitely miss [Bobby Wagner](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/14979/bobby-wagner) (now with the [Los Angeles Rams](/nfl/team/_/name/lar/los-angeles-rams)), [Carlos Dunlap](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/13274/carlos-dunlap) (now with the [Kansas City Chiefs](/nfl/team/_/name/kc/kansas-city-chiefs)) and [Rasheem Green](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3912562/rasheem-green) (now with the [Houston Texans](/nfl/team/_/name/hou/houston-texans)). [Tariq Woolen](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4245185/tariq-woolen) and [Coby Bryant](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4239094/coby-bryant) to a unit that (along with [Sidney Jones IV](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3127299/sidney-jones-iv)) allowed a 62% completion percentage last season. [Drew Lock](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3924327/drew-lock) were starting. [Jerry Jeudy](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4241463/jerry-jeudy) has to step up to become the receiver I thought he would be when he was drafted, first time head coach Nathaniel Hackett and his incredibly young staff have to seamlessly transition into an elite staff, and the rest of the AFC West has to have things go wrong for the Broncos to win this division, not to mention a Super Bowl. That defense could be better this year -- certainly there's a good amount of talent and [Randy Gregory](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3040479/randy-gregory) is a nice add, but overall I think the Broncos are a bit overrated because their defense is overrated. As for the division, I could see the argument that all four teams have a similar chance to win, so the Broncos having the third-longest odds could provide some value. The Broncos have the talent to contend, but I think there are too many hurdles for them to have the eighth-shortest odds to win the Super Bowl. Last season, the Seahawks ranked either last or 31st in the NFL in passing yards allowed (280.4 per game), passing attempts allowed (38.7 per game), and passing completions allowed (26.1 per game). [Matthew Stafford](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/12483/matthew-stafford) (2021) and [Tom Brady](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/2330/tom-brady) (2020). There is no question that the Broncos are a better team top to bottom, so anything short of a Broncos win would be a huge surprise given the expectations surrounding Russ and the Broncos, overall. How do you see Wilson's approach to this game and who do you like in the game? 3 Keys to a Broncos Victory Over Seahawks (Sports Illustrated)

All that's left is action. The Broncos can exorcise the demons of the past six seasons, and quarterback Russell Wilson will be afforded the same opportunity.

I expect the Broncos to eventually manage it, but this defense hasn't been tested quite yet, and its conditioning, after resting for the duration of the preseason, is in question. Do so with even a modicum of consistency, and he will give the ball away. Against a Seahawks' secondary that is suspect and lackluster, Wilson needs to go for the jugular early and often. At the same time, this isn't going to be Carroll's preferred brand of offensive football: pound the rock, control the clock, and don't give the ball away. Much like Seahawks fans wanted their team to do for years and years, the Broncos are going to #LetRussCook. However it shakes out, the memo to Coach Hackett is #LetRussCook. The emotions, and the insults, could have the opposite effect, and cause Wilson to press and not play his usual brand of focused, 'neutral' football. The Broncos can exorcise the demons of the past six seasons, and quarterback Russell Wilson will be afforded the same opportunity. Based on all of Hackett's offseason remarks, he understands the magnitude of talent he has under center. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett has to walk that razor's edge of finding ways to use the shade as motivation, without letting it become a distraction or albatross around his team's neck. [Denver Broncos](https://www.si.com/nfl/team/denver-broncos) are tired of all the talk. Wilson can get this particular monkey off his back out of the gates.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll: This is the fastest team we've had (Seahawks Wire)

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll believes he has his faster roster yet heading into the 2022 NFL regular season.

The DBs can run, the corners can run. “When you have offensive tackles that run a 4.9 (seconds), that gives you the chance to really pick up your speed,” Carroll continued. I care about how fast they are and how well they can move.”

Carroll, to show — at least for a night — that he can succeed in the post-Wilson era and that the team made the right call in trading him? This will be our first chance to see what that looks like in action — and one question worth wondering is if the Seahawks could use Adams as a de facto spy on Wilson and sending him to chase after Wilson regularly. Dallas, entering his third year, tied for the NFL lead in the preseason in rushing with 163 yards, averaging 5.8 per carry, and figures to get the early-down work if/when Penny gets a series or two off. Yes, for now they are, and much of Seattle’s hopes that this is a retooling season and not a rebuilding one rests on him being able to play the way coach Pete Carroll wants — limiting turnovers, taking what the defense gives him and converting big plays when they are there. Jones didn’t play in the preseason due to a concussion, and Woolen was one of the team’s best players. But the starting cornerbacks are more in question — it could be veteran Sidney Jones IV on the left side and rookie Tariq Woolen on the right.

Thus, Metcalf and Lockett must do their best to help their quarterback and get open on their routes. How they improve will determine how efficiently the Broncos can move the ball. The Denver Broncos will travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Seattle Seahawks for a Week 1 showdown. Now, Wilson returns to the stadium he called home for the last decade. The offensive line must improve. The Seahawks are in complete rebuild mode and will attempt to put the pieces back together brick-by-brick. Moreover, he looks to build a new part of his career with a Broncos team that believes they will contend for a Super Bowl. When the Broncos start their season in Seattle, there will be some extra spice.

[@ErickTrickel](https://twitter.com/ErickTrickel)): Being without Jewell will hurt the defense, but the Broncos can still overwhelm the quarterback. Denver will jump out to an early lead, silencing the 12th man and crushing their spirit, handing them the first L of the season. Wilson throws for 300 yards and three touchdowns, adds another score via his legs, and the Broncos blow out the Seahawks. If Denver can stop the run, the Broncos should win this game and cover. Expect it to be close early, but as the Broncos find their groove, they'll break it open in the second half. It may take a couple of series for the offense to get going, but the Broncos will pull away big in the second half. [@BrennanGrose1](https://twitter.com/BrennanGrose01)): The Broncos start a little slow, but Wilson and Nathaniel Hackett quickly find their feet as they pick apart one of the worst secondaries in football last year. Look for the Broncos to get into a groove after halftime. Expect Wilson to play like a maniac — one with a neutral mindset, of course — and hang some serious points on his former team. The Broncos come out firing with some creativity, leading to an early lead that they never surrender. [@KeithC_NFL](https://twitter.com/KeithC_NFL)): Seattle may boo Wilson. But so will the Broncos.

Broncos and Seahawks Player Prop Bets: Melvin Gordon, Courtland ... (Sports Illustrated)

Week 1 is coming to an end but not before players from the Seahawks and Broncos take the field on Monday Night Football.

Tyler Lockett, Wilson’s former teammate in Seattle, had the fourth best (15.4). The Denver run defense is no pushover, but it’s hard not to back Rashaad Penny after he averaged 92 yards and a touchdown across the last six games of the season. Meanwhile, Courtland Sutton had the second-best average depth of target (ADOT) in 2021 at 15.8 yards. [Courtland Sutton](https://www.si.com/nfl/player/courtland-sutton) or Jerry Jeudy that stands out in this game? I’ll take this super low rushing prop for the veteran who was slightly more efficient and I’ll gamble on the plus-money [score at SISB](https://www.sisportsbook.com/spt/?sr=1924511), too. [Melvin Gordon](https://www.si.com/nfl/player/melvin-gordon-iii), the veteran rusher should be able to clear this rushing prop against a Seattle team that allowed 95 rushing yards per game to opposing running backs.
