He practiced for the first time in over a year in July but missed about three weeks of training camp due to the nagging hamstring. During the ’19 campaign, the now 29-year-old caught an NFL-record 149 passes for 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns. The New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons face off this afternoon in the 107th game of their bitter rivalry. New Orleans trails the all-time series 54-52, ...
One of the reasons why the Falcons upset the Saints in week nine last year was their ability to exploit coverage mismatches with TE Kyle Pitts and RB Cordarrelle Patterson. Jordan has had a career worthy of Canton against the Falcons alone. Winston was just reaching a comfort level with the offense when he went down. He's a strong-armed passer who can hit any spot on the field and has underrated mobility. In 10 career games against the Falcons, Thomas has averaged over 8 receptions and nearly 99 yards, with at least 7 catches in seven of those outings. Outside of Kaden Elliss, who is a major liability in coverage, the Saints have no depth at linebacker behind Davis and Werner. After missing 26 of the last 33 games with a serious ankle injury, Thomas has almost become an afterthought in national circles. Even with newly added weapons, he should still be the alpha of this receiving group if healthy. The New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons face off this afternoon in the 107th game of their bitter rivalry. Perhaps the league's most physical receiver, Thomas looked great in the opening weeks of camp before being slowed by a hamstring injury. That includes the last four meetings in Atlanta, site of today's clash. Plenty of individual matchups will determine the outcome.
Thomas' status has been in question as he recovers from ankle surgery. The injury kept him out for the entire 2021 season. Moments ago, the Saints announced ...
From 2016-19, few, if any, wide receivers in the NFL were more productive than Thomas. Moments ago, the Saints announced that the Pro Bowl wide receiver will be active for today's opener against the Atlanta Falcons. Michael Thomas will be making his regular season return to the Saints this afternoon.
The New Orleans Saints officially will try put the bad vibes of 2021 behind them when they open the 2022 season in Atlanta on Sunday against the rival Falcons.
Very little of that production came in two games against the Saints (5 catches, 12 targets, 70 yards), who were one of the NFL’s stingier teams when it came to defending tight ends. 1 for the Saints defense should be slowing down the Falcons emerging star Kyle Pitts, a 6-foot-6, 246-pound tight end who runs like a receiver. Maybe this week could signal the start in a shift for Carmichael’s career narrative. This is an especially interesting Week 1 for the Saints, who have a lot more unknowns than usual going into a season. Speaking of narratives, Michael Thomas virtually vanished from the national discussion during a difficult previous two seasons. Before the ankle injury that ruined Thomas’ last two seasons, he was unstoppable on the football field putting up literally unprecedented numbers.

The Saints will set themselves up to finally tie the all time record against the Falcons with another victory in New Orleans later this season, something they have been trying to accomplish since 1969. Atlanta will immediately be on the back foot once again when it comes to the divisional race and the Wildcard race. If that happens, then beating the Saints will mean a lot for both morale now and possible tiebreaker purposes down the road. That victory moved the Falcons to 7-1 all time against the Saints in season openers. Victory would also move the all time record against the Saints to 55-52, guaranteeing a continued positive winning percentage for at least another year. This will be the first time these teams have opened the season against each other since 2014, when the Birds won an overtime shootout.

The New Orleans Saints met the division-rival Atlanta Falcons for a Week 1 kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 11.
3 It’s a huge opportunity for them to separate from the pack in the NFC South after the Falcons and Carolina Panthers both lost their Week 1 games. The Saints will travel back to New Orleans for a week of practice before next Sunday’s home opener with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. Atlanta recovered but had nowhere to go, and New Orleans left town with a win. They kept their cool, cleaned up their mistakes, and put Lutz in position to win the game. Let’s dig in to the Saints’ Week 1 win:
ATLANTA – The Falcons have played the New Orleans Saints a few times to open an NFL season. Atlanta has dominated those affairs, with seven wins in eight ...
He was efficient as a more conventional rusher, something necessary that wore the Saints defense down as the game carried on. Patterson was especially impactful on the Falcons' lone first-half touchdown drive, with eight carries for 53 yards and a touchdown. They had a solid percentage of that total in just one day. They too often settled for field goals – Marcus Mariota also fumbled deep in the red zone -- and it ultimately cost them a winnable game that slipped out of their grasp in dramatic fashion. The Falcons were in firm control more most of Sunday's game against the Saints, right up until the end. Younghoe Too had a 65-yard attempt blocked as time expired, leaving the Falcons on the wrong end of this one.
New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen said to expect Taysom Hill to get quarterback snaps in 2022. Leads Saints first touchdown drive.
Hill waltzed into the end zone untouched (until the goal line at least) to give the Saints an early lead over the rival Falcons 7-3. The first, great blocking on the right side by fullback Adam Prentice and tight ends Adam Trautman and Juwan Johnson sprang Hill loose down the sideline for a 57-yard run. On a pair of plays during the team’s second drive, Hill ran for a total of 68 yards and scored an 11-yard touchdown run.
With the win, New Orleans moves to 1-0. The Saints return to action on Sunday, Sept. 18 when they play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in New Orleans. Kickoff is set ...
Hill scored later on the drive on an 11-yard run for the Saints' first touchdown. Kamara went over 30 yards with a 15-yard carry in the third quarter, moving him past George Rodgers into third place on the Saints all-time rushing yards list. *Maye led the secondary with nine tackles. Allen becomes the fourth Saints head coach to win in his debut, joining J.D. The Saints return to action on Sunday, Sept. - With the win, New Orleans moves to 1-0.

[Cordarrelle Patterson](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/football/nfl/player/9955/cordarrelle-patterson) ran 22 times for 120 yards and a score, but all the positives of the first 45-plus minutes for the Falcons went up in smoke at the end. NFL football is officially back Saints fans. The Saints kicked off their highly anticipated season against their division rival, Altlanta Falcons.
The Saints would begin the second with the ball and put together a decent drive into Falcons territory. Winston marched the offense in Falcons territory and set them up for a 51-yard field goal to give the Saints the lead with 19 seconds remaining. Marcus Mariota would do the rest with a QB sneak for a field goal to make it 23-10. Both teams would exchange a couple of punts before Atlanta would add another three to the scoreboard with a 50-yard field goal to extend their lead to 13-7. It was Taysom time on the Saint’s second offensive possession of the game as he would have a huge57-yard run to get the Saints in the red zone. The Falcons would start the game with the ball and put together a decent-looking drive that went into Saints’ territory.
The New Orleans Saints came back from down 16 points to beat the Atlanta Falcons by one point. Here's what went right and wrong in Week 1.
However, three quarters of struggle against a team of the talent level that Atlanta is supposed to be at is not okay. His confidence was raised by the end of the game, but he just has to show consistency in his return to play. This was the first real game in Dennis Allen’s tenure and Pete Carmichael’s first time fully in charge of the offense. The Saints have a lot to learn from what they did well in the fourth quarter. The offensive line was getting ran through like turnstiles and the play calling didn’t adjust for it until the end of the game. There was a lot of good and a lot of bad.
We probably need to get used to the idea of Jarvis Landry being a one-year rental with the New Orleans Saints, but what an experience this is turning out to ...
Landry averaged 8.8 targeted air yards in 2020 and 8.2 in 2021, his last two years with the Cleveland Browns. Instead, Landry took advantage of all the attention going their way to bully one-on-one matchups way downfield; his 31-yard grab early in the fourth quarter set up Thomas for a goal-line touchdown reception, effectively sparking the comeback in the first place. So let’s take a minute to reflect on just how impressive Landry played in his first game with his hometown team.
After opening the 2022 season with a rousing 19-3 win in Dallas led by a dominant defense, the Buccaneers will now take on the 1-0 Saints in a venue that ...
The Buccaneers did win the most important game in that stretch, a 2020 Divisional Playoff Round matchup in New Orleans that helped propel Tampa Bay to Super Bowl LV, but they will probably need to break the Saints' current victory streak if they want to repeat as NFC South champs. In 2021, the Buccaneers finally broke the Saints' stranglehold on the division title but still lost twice to their rivals, 36-27 in the Superdome and 9-0 at Raymond James Stadium. Among the games that came down to the wire earlier in the afternoon was the New Orleans Saints' 27-26 thriller in Atlanta which was won on a 51-yard Wil Lutz field goal with 27 seconds left in regulation.
We break down the fantasy football outlook of Jarvis Landry ahead of the Saints Week 1 matchup against the Falcons.
[Browns](https://www.dawgsbynature.com/), Landry has found a new home in New Orleans under the direction of Dennis Allen. He could eventually grab more targets down the line if he performs well, but in Week 1 look elsewhere for a receiver who’s projected to bring in a bigger fantasy haul. That's why head coach Dennis Allen expressed pride in his opening statement at his press conference but also gave a reality check. “Enjoy the win but have thick ...
Hill is still very much a vital part of what the Saints do offensively. The Falcons were down inside the red zone, and could have put the game away. For Lutz, he missed a 44-yard field goal early in the game, and wobbled a 49-yarder through later. The officials ruled Landry was out of bounds, thus a quarterback can’t spike when the clock is stopped. - It was a crazy turn of events at the end of the game. However, with the game on the line from 52 yards out, no one had a doubt. On the flipside, the offensive line had serious issues early in the game protection. It’s been a long journey back to the field for Michael Thomas and Wil Lutz. The Saints pass rush was also pretty miniscule. Knowing he had to pass the ball, Winston caught fire and for the first time all game got into rhythm with his receivers. In all, the Saints surrendered 201 rushing yards. On the other hand, the team played very poorly for three quarters against what many consider one of the worst rosters in football.
We handed out our Week 1 game balls from the Saints' dramatic season-opening win against the Falcons to Michael Thomas and Jameis Winston.
He saw work as the jammer and gunner on punts and even got in on the field goal block team that won the game. And we already saw it against Atlanta, where Taylor was the only Saint to get downfield in time to force a fair catch on multiple punts. Hopefully the Saints defensive line can make his job easier in the weeks ahead by doing a better job of setting the line of scrimmage. It was reminiscent of the electric Houston Texans opener in 2019 when he won the game on a 58-yard field goal with two seconds left. Werner paced the team with 13 tackles (12 solo, 1 tackle for loss) and created a clutch forced fumble in one of the game’s biggest moments. He missed a 44-yard attempt in the first half, but there was a sense of calmness when he trotted out each time thereafter.

Look, I look at this game as not too dissimilar to the first time we played this team last year. The offense, with chunk plays to Juwan Johnson and Alvin Kamara with the Falcons playing off, got its rhythm. The difference is we finished in this one, and we didn't last year.” “It’ll be interesting to see exactly how the tape kinda plays out, but we just didn’t play well. The run defense clamped down, holding the Falcons to 3.4 yards per carry. “I don’t think we stopped the run very well, and then we weren’t running the ball very good offensively other than a couple of plays where we ran the ball with Taysom,” Allen continued. Couple of throws to Mike were kinda off-target—those two players just weren’t in sync. “We were just out of sync. “Me, the coaches, the players, everybody. They won the NFC South four consecutive years from 2017 to ’20.

Some first game jitters and the newly repaired ACL might have had something to do with that and not very much work in the preseason also could’ve been a factor, but Jamies Winston was a man on a mission in the second half and particularly in the 4th quarter. In the second quarter of this game, we saw a totally different version of Jamies Winston compared to the one in the first quarter. Once he got going, you could tell Thomas had that look in his eye that if the ball’s is coming to him, he’s coming down with it. The Falcons and Cordarrelle had their way with this defensive line. The New Orleans Saints had some question marks along both the offensive and defensive lines heading into the season. The textbook definition of a tale of two halves.

The Saints have said previously they’ll try different combinations each week to try and get the best matchups, so it’s a bit of a work-in-progress. But this was about as strong a start as you could hope for coming out of the gates. The small platoon of Saints players covering the slot did so on a combined 37 snaps, drawing 13 targets. The other players to line up there included linebacker Kaden Elliss (3 snaps), cornerback Bradley Roby (3), cornerback Marshon Lattimore (2), and defensive end Cameron Jordan (1). While Evans did see more slot snaps than anyone else, he was far from the only Saints defender to fill that role. Evans led the team with 25 snaps in the slot, dropping back into pass coverage on 15 of those reps.
