Ready, set, rookie: New York Jets' prized draft class must provide ... (ESPN)

As many as five Jets rookies are expected to have significant roles in the season opener against the Ravens -- what can the Jets expect from them?

TE [Jeremy Ruckert](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4361372/jeremy-ruckert) (third) and DE [Micheal Clemons](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4240896/micheal-clemons) (fourth) are backups. [Sam Darnold](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3912547/sam-darnold)'s first game), one shy of the league's longest losing streak for August/September games. Everybody wants to know if he will be the RB1 ahead of incumbent [Michael Carter](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4240657/michael-carter), whom offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur calls the "heartbeat of the offense." [Duane Brown](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/11260/duane-brown)'s shoulder injury. [Breece Hall](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4427366/breece-hall): The second-rounder already is regarded as one of the most physically gifted players on the team. Season prediction: The Jets will be a fun team to watch later in the season, when the schedule is more favorable and their promising young players mature, but there will be growing pains early on, especially on offense. [Garrett Wilson](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4569618/garrett-wilson): He will be part of a four-man rotation at receiver, capable of playing inside or outside. The Ravens are the model of consistency with "A fun week," said Streveler, who's had a fun few weeks in helping the Jets to an undefeated preseason record. The [New Orleans Saints](/nfl/team/_/name/no/new-orleans-saints) (1994-1997) and St. He missed four games last season (knee sprain) and four games at BYU in 2019 (thumb fracture). Coach Robert Saleh said they have "a full set of draft picks rolling out on Sunday," meaning all seven will be active for the game.

Ravens vs. Jets: Inactives (Baltimore Beatdown)

RB J.K. Dobbins · OT Ronnie Stanley · CB Marcus Peters · TE Nick Boyle · OT Daniel Faalele · DT Travis Jones.

It appears the Ravens are also opting to play center Trystan Colon over rookie tackle Faalele. Four of the Ravens’ six inactives were out last season, with Boyle being the only one intermittently returning last season but never quite 100-percent. Though the Ravens hoped last season’s injuries were behind them, the inactives list shows they haven’t been able to escape the past.

First half analysis: Defense shows early signs of promise, but Jets ... (Jets Wire)

The New York Jets have held their own against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens through two quarters.

Other than that, the Jets have been pretty good on defense. Sure, there were a few nice plays, especially from two rookies: WR Garrett Wilson showed some nice moves and RB Breece Hall had a good run in the second quarter. But early on against the Ravens, the Jets have been excellent on defense. The Jets were in their dime package, and Hall was on Duvernay. We had a feeling the Jets would be pretty good on defense. The Jets have some hitters.

Jets-Ravens Prediction: Can Joe Flacco Lead New York to Win in ... (Sports Illustrated)

The New York Jets face the Baltimore Ravens at MetLife Stadium in Week 1 to open the 2022 NFL season, a game where the Jets could pull off surprising upset.

Nonetheless, this will be a tremendous test for a young and unproven team to start the season, a chance for them to make a statement even if they don't win. Call me crazy but I think Flacco will play well in this game, knocking on the door of 200 yards through the air. You'll see flashes on the defensive side of the ball, showing why this team is going to be play contenders tight for much of this season. All Flacco needs to do is get the ball to New York's playmakers, the weapons that this organization have been stockpiling for Wilson (who underwent knee surgery after a non-contact injury in the preseason). That journey begins on Sunday when the Baltimore Ravens come to town, a team that's hungry to get back to the postseason with one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the game. This was already going to be an uphill battle for the Jets.

Will Jordan Whitehead fix the NY Jets' issues at safety? | Film (Jets X-Factor)

A hard-hitter with championship experience, Jordan Whitehead is seeking to solve the New York Jets' issues at the safety position.

He will start at strong safety for the Jets, who hope Whitehead can provide a large upgrade at the position in comparison to last year’s mess. These injuries left the Jets plugging holes in a sinking boat with tissue paper. [New York Jets](https://jetsxfactor.com/jet-x-membership)‘ safety situation was a messy one in 2021.

Studs and Duds from Jets ugly Week 1 loss vs. Ravens (Jets Wire)

Week 1 is in the books for the New York Jets and…yikes. That was bad. It's almost tough to pick any studs in this game. There were certainly were plenty of ...

Not exactly how you want to prove you were the man for the job. While the offense looked bad, the defense did all they could to at least give the Jets a chance. And for all the talk about the tight ends, they were nowhere to be found. Now it’s just about bringing all the pieces together and getting some consistency. Save for a few deep bombs, the Jets defense stood tall in Week 1. The offensive line allowed Flacco to be sacked three times. It may be a long September for the Jets. Houston getting to Flacco was the icing on the cake. The receivers struggled to catch the ball, especially Corey Davis. As unfortunate as his situation has been and as unfortunate to even have to mention him, George Fant was a key reason the Jets were slowed up early on offense. Week 1 is in the books for the New York Jets and…yikes. Well, except for the dropped touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Breakdown: Mink's Five Thoughts on Ravens' Blowout of Jets (BaltimoreRavens.com)

The Ravens' defensive upgrades paid immediate dividends as two youngsters shined. Devin Duvernay is the No. 2 receiver the Ravens need, but they have to run ...

Still, this underscores the need for Stanley to return to game action soon. That may still be the case, but it has to be better than that for this offense to have sustained success. After a healthy preseason, the Ravens suffered two tough injuries in their season-opener. Versatility Patrick Mekari filled in admirably and the offensive line play actually seemed to improve in the second half. Now it's Duvernay's time to shine as a starter and he showed Sunday he's ready to step up to the challenge. The roll was dry early on as Baltimore mustered just 11 rushing yards on seven carries in the first half. But from the Jets' first drive of the game, Madubuike was dominating inside. Devin Duvernay shushed the concern about the Ravens' wide receiver situation, at least for now, with two touchdown catches. Queen and Madubuike, two of the Ravens' top three picks from 2020, were all over the field hammering the Jets offense. Flacco was under duress from Justin Houston on the edge, Justin Madubuike up the middle, Patrick Queen from every angle, and others. Queen has always had the tools, and now he looks sure of how to use them. The defense forced two fumbles and recovered one.

Reed](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3139387/dj-reed) forced [Mike Davis](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3025433/mike-davis) to fumble, but the Ravens running back recovered. [Ronnie Stanley](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/2980153/ronnie-stanley), was carted off the field with what was initially called a left ankle injury but Harbaugh later confirmed was a torn Achilles tendon. [Breece Hall](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/4427366/breece-hall) fumbled after a 7-yard catch that would've been a first down. He was called for offensive pass interference on a play during which Ravens cornerback [Kyle Fuller](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/16715/kyle-fuller) injured his left knee and needed help off the field. New York's defense held firm and Baltimore settled for [Justin Tucker](http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/15683/justin-tucker)'s 24-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead. “From dropped passes to being loose with the football and missed kicks, this is a game, in my opinion, that we absolutely lost.” The [Baltimore Ravens](/nfl/team/_/name/bal/baltimore-ravens)' star quarterback certainly got off to a terrific start. Flacco, starting against the team with whom he won a Super Bowl, was ineffective and wasn't helped by a few drops and lousy pass protection. “We were getting back into the swing of things.” 11 attacks — the site of the former World Trade Center just across the Hudson River — played a factor. Baltimore general manager Eric DeCosta said in a statement Friday the sides would keep working on an extension after the season. Jackson denied the ESPN story when asked after the game by the outlet's reporter whether he turned down a $250 million guaranteed contract: “With a guarantee?

Ravens vs. Jets Final: Report Card, Grades (Baltimore Beatdown)

After a sluggish start in the first half, the Baltimore Ravens offense sprung to life with a three-touchdown outing from quarterback Lamar Jackson.

A concern moving forward will be the health of the unit. The linebacker showed significant development against the Jets, making open-field tackles, hanging in tough in coverage and generating pressure on his blitzes. However, like the defensive line, this is a superior problem than the inverse. But, it’s far better to have some issues in the run game than it would be to struggle getting after the quarterback. Just about as great of a game as you could ask for from the big guys up as a pass rushing unit. As for pass protection, the Ravens looked solid, giving Jackson time to throw it around the field near and far. In the second half, Jackson got back to his traditional Week 1 form with two touchdowns to wide receiver Devin Duvernay and a 55-yard bomb to a wide open Rashod Bateman. That much was apparent as the Ravens started with Kenyan Drake for two series, then going to Mike Davis for the following and then giving Justice Hill a series afterward. Jackson and the offense were off to a slow start in the first half, with Jackson taking shallow completions with his wide receivers. But three flashes of lightning from said cloud in the form of Duvernay and Bateman have quelled the concern. The holes weren’t generated and the struggles were apparent. Jackson did throw an interception late, his first in four Week 1 games as the starting quarterback.

Week 1 recap: Jets offense puts up dud in 24-9 loss (Jets Wire)

Game recap of the New York Jets 24-9 loss in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens.

That’s the most attempts for a Jets quarterback since Mark Sanchez threw 59 times against the Giants on Christmas Eve 2011. Tucker hit the extra point and the Jets were down 17-3. The bottom line was they had just three points on the board. The Jets would add a field goal just before halftime, going 48 yards in eight plays as Zuerlein this time hit from 45 yards out. That capped a three-play, 62-yard drive in just 56 seconds to put the Ravens up 10-0. Week 1 went about as ugly as you can think for the Jets offense.

Jets Get Crushed as Ravens Cruise to Week 1 Rout (Sports Illustrated)

At times, New York demonstrated what they're capable of defensively, giving Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson fits while suffocating the running game. Any ...

It's worth noting that the Jets had a real chance to flip the script earlier in that drive. The Ravens were still able to pounce on it, keeping the drive moving and leading to the game-icing score. On that play, he stepped up after rolling right and torched New York's secondary, splitting the safeties in what looked like a miscommunication that left the middle of the field wide open. Still, heading back to the locker room, the Jets were 0-for-6 on third down, casting an ominous shadow over a strong first half from their new-look defense. The Jets were simply incapable of putting points on the board (not scoring a touchdown until the very end of the fourth quarter), digging themselves a hole with mistakes. They took a 10-0 lead in the second quarter after a costly pass interference penalty on safety Lamarcus Joyner.

Jets report card: Robert Saleh's team didn't look prepared (New York Post)

The offense definitely gets more blame for this loss but the defense gave up a few huge plays that killed the Jets. They largely played well against Ravens QB ...

The defensive game plan was strong and they did a good job of limiting Jackson and the running game. The team needed a spark and he did not provide one through play-calling. Punter Braden Mann had 20-yard punt that handed the Ravens the ball in Jets territory and they scored a touchdown a few plays later. New kicker Greg Zuerlein had a rough debut with the team. The offensive line could not protect Joe Flacco and he was sacked three times and hit 11. Safety Lamarcus Joyner had a killer pass interference penalty that set up Baltimore’s first touchdown.
