The Tennessee Titans could not ask for a more friendly start to the 2022 season than the New York Giants.
The Titans won’t be as explosive, but the Giants are still the Giants. Titans may have some issues – replacing A.J. The Titans should get this one. Tennessee is going to open the season with a bang and will let Derrick Henry get loose. The Giants don't have an answer for Derrick Henry. [Nickelback Elijah Molden, three others ruled out for Tennessee Titans vs.
The New York Giants had scouts, including GM Joe Schoen, at several notable college football games on Saturday.
In addition to those two games, they also sent scouts to Army-UTSA, Utah-Southern Utah and Baylor-BYU. In addition to Florida and Kentucky, Schoen also spent the early part of his Saturday in Austin watching Texas and Alabama. The New York Giants were quite busy on Saturday, having sent their scouts all across the country to take in various college games.
The plans have been laid, the roster is what it is at this point, and the New York Giants are (hopefully) ready to kick off their 2022 regular season ...
Starting this week, we're probably going to see a team that is still finding its way and is jelling on both sides of the ball. He still might grow into it with more experience, but if things keep up the way they went in the preseason, it might be a matter of time before the Giants go in a different direction. But if the Giants can get off to a quick start and score on their opening drive, that will certainly help them gain some early-game momentum. The Titans will likely crowd the box against running back Saquon Barkley and dare Jones to beat them with his arm. That includes second-year man Aaron Robinson, who had his share of struggles in the preseason while working mostly against backup players. Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is no stranger to facing elite running backs like Derrick Henry. Of course, for quarterback Daniel Jones to have the opportunity to throw the ball, his revamped offensive line, the left guard identity still not known as of this writing, needs to give him time to throw. This will be our first full look at all the bells and whistles implemented by both Giants coordinators, who mostly kept things very vanilla in the preseason. They’ve picked up the offense, the defense. We're probably not going to know what this Giants team is until it has about four games under its belt. The kicking game is fairly similar. meeting down at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

2 run defense in the NFL last season and are returning all but one member of their 2021 front-seven (Harold Landry is out for the season with a torn ACL). Getting to Jones will be difficult with New York’s beefed-up offensive line and Jones’ ability to escape. If the Titans are going to be successful on defense, they must force quarterback Daniel Jones to win this game with his arm. The Giants will be forced to bring extra help upfront, opening things up down the field and setting up the play-action. The Titans have to make sure they don’t over-pursue in the pass-rush and keep Jones in front of them. Meanwhile, the Giants have been a disaster since 2016, putting together five consecutive losing seasons, including three last-place finishes. And I’m not overstating that — Holmes has legitimate superstar potential. Getting Henry going will make things much easier for Tannehill and Co. While he did a much better job of taking care of the football in 2021, Jones has been susceptible to turnovers during his career, which is another reason to want to keep him in the pocket. The good news for the Titans is they sported the No. Yes, Barkley has been on a downslide since his incredible rookie season thanks to injuries and overall inconsistency, but he’s still a major threat whenever the ball is in his hands. They won’t be able to do that if he and running back Saquon Barkley are running all over the field.
Twenty-three losses in two seasons have been more than enough for the former Alabama defensive back.
I think the coaches have done a great job with us, of helping us get prepared and be ready for the season.” “I think we’ve done a great job of getting prepared, making sure that we’re conditioned, tightening up the little things as far as plays and things like that. CDT Sunday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. It’s things that I’ve done before, so I don’t see it as a lot. It’s always meant a lot to me to become a captain. McKinney made 93 tackles and led the Giants with five interceptions. That’s what it’s always been. It starts with the things that we do in the film room; it starts with what we do in the weight room. “That’s what I’ve noticed. New York will play its first game with former Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll as its head coach. [McKinney said](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4CX250BAts).
Daniel Bellinger will be one of three members of the 2022 draft class to start on offense Sunday when the Giants face the Titans at Nissan Stadium.
Max Garcia, a veteran offensive lineman on the practice squad, is no longer with the Giants, and was signed to the Cardinals’ active roster. “Just lock in on the game plan and execute one play at a time.’’ I’ve been watching it for Sundays for the last 21 years of my life and know getting to actually play means the world.’’ He will get the opportunity to do both in his NFL debut. I just focused on what I had to do and my job.’’ It was a foregone conclusion that first-round pick Evan Neal would start at right tackle, and wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson was impressive enough in preseason to be part of the three-receiver starting group, though Sterling Shepard’s recovery from a torn Achilles tendon has made him a viable option, albeit in a limited role.

“I think it allows the quarterback to do a lot in the pocket, outside the pocket, in the run game. The new head coach, Brian Daboll, was brought in to lead the entire team, of course. That, more than anything else, will be the backdrop of this entire season for the Giants.
NASHVILLE - Joe Schoen has spent more than seven months preparing the New York Giants for this moment. Coaching hires. Roster decisions. The NFL Draft.
Don't be surprised if Tony Jefferson and Julian Love play a lot in the box against the Titans, helping Martindale give different looks. So much is going to be made about Blake Martinez's departure - this is the kind of game you'd want an oldish school two-down linebacker as part of your run defense. Thomas has been watching plenty of video on Dupree, now considered the Titans' top weapon on the edge with Harold Landry having suffered a torn ACL last week. Wink Martindale offered up all the superlatives for Titans star running back Derrick Henry, and for good reason, comparing him to a modern day Jim Brown. I'm excited, I appreciate all of the work the players have put into it, I think we've got a sound game plan. As general manager, Schoen's fingerprints are all over Big Blue heading into Sunday's regular season opener against the Tennessee Titans.

The Giants and the Titans will meet in Week 1 of the NFL season. Here are the odds, predictions, picks, and best bets for the matchup.
Dealing away a Pro Bowl-caliber receiver like Brown hurts in more ways than one, but on paper, Tennessee got younger and not necessarily a ton worse at the position. Brown is listed at 6-foot-1, 225 pounds; Burks is 6-foot-2 and 225. We’re leaning over, with a 24-21 or 27-20 result well within the realm of possibility. There’s nowhere for New York’s offense to go but up after it ranked 31st in the NFL last year with 15.2 points per game. Even coming off an injury, Henry is always a threat to break off a long touchdown run. We’ll give New York a shot and look for a close game in Nashville. The Giants ranked middle of the road in pass attempts last season. And the Titans dealt away No. Jones is effectively playing for his NFL life. It’s still early to say, but this Giants offense, while not amazing on paper, could surprise some teams in the early going. AZ, CO, IA, IL, IN, LA, MI, NJ, NY, PA, TN, VA, WV, WY only. That starts Sunday, when Lawrence leads the Giants in sacks. If I was a betting man, the one that would interest me would be Jones over/under 244.5 passing yards. There are a number Daniel Jones’ passing yards props. Getting the ball to Barkley in space — via the pass — figures to be a major emphasis for Mike Kafka on Sunday. Here are five bold predictions for the game. Tennessee barely uses Henry, who has never had more than 19 receptions in a season, in the passing game.

Saquon Barkley came alive, Sterling Shepard returned in a big way, and Brian Daboll made a gutsy call to start his tenure as head coach.
Tennessee's Kyle Philips returned the first one 46 yards, but the rookie muffed one in the fourth quarter, giving the ball back to the Giants deep in Titans territory. The 164 yards on the ground were the third-most of his career. The two-time rushing triple crown holder ran for 65 yards on 15 attempts with a long of 18 yards. *After being shut out in the first two quarters, Saquon Barkley sparked the Giants in the second half with a 68-yard run, which was 14 yards longer than any play by the team all of last season. Bud Dupree recovered the fumble, which the Titans turned into a field goal on the ensuing possession. *In the week leading up to the game, Brian Daboll didn't announce if Ben Bredeson or rookie Joshua Ezeudu would start at left guard in place of Shane Lemieux, who is on injured reserve with a toe injury.
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill engineered a drive in the closing moments, but a 47-yard field goal by kicker Randy Bullock sailed wide left at the horn.
Tannehill connected with Burks for a 27-yard toss on the drive, and Philips also made a 20-yard catch to set the drive in motion. The Titans extended their lead to 13-0 in the second quarter on another Bullock field goal, this one from 23 yards out. "I never want to start off the season on the wrong foot, especially at home in front of your own fans. Give (the Giants) a lot of credit – we went flat and then we weren't able to get anything going in the second half." As a team, the Giants ran for 238 yards. Barkley ran for 164 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, including a 68-yard run.
Saquon Barkley lived up to his promise that he was back from his devastating knee injury from two years ago. He ran with authority and reclaimed his place among ...
Giants rookie wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson left the game in the first half with a knee injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the afternoon. They also did not allow a a reception to a receiver over 27 yards and limited Tennessee to 2-of-10 on third down. The Giants outgunned the Titans, 394-359, and made their red zone opportunities count, going 2-3 and 2-2 in goal to go situations. They stepped up on third downs and hemmed Derrick Henry in enough to force the Titans to punt more often than they wanted. He ran with authority and reclaimed his place among the elite back in the league with several big plays. Giants players and coaches wore hats and other apparel to commemorate the first responders lost on that day.
The New York Giants survived a late-game scare by the Titans to eke out their first win of the Brian Daboll era.
Giants receiver Wan'Dale Robinson suffered a knee injury in the second quarter and was ruled out of the game. New York held Titans running back Derrick Henry to 82 yards on 21 carries, a 3.9 yards per carry average. The Giants managed just seven first downs, with six coming in the second quarter, and two of their six drives on offense were three-and-out. Jones also lost the handle on a ball when he was strip-sacked by Titans defensive lineman Jeffrey Simmons. The Titans also got two field goals from kicker Randy Bullock, one from 46 yards and one from 23 yards. And special teams coverage, a problem in the preseason, continued its struggles. Jones finished 17 of 21 for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Three plays into the drive, Jones threw an awful ball intended for Barkley on a wheel route in the corner of the end zone. Giants cornerback and former Titans defender Adoree' Jackson was flagged for defensive pass interference on a 2nd-and-10 at the Giant's 18-yard line. Tannehill drive his team 41 yards down to the Giant's 29-yard line, but Bullock, who had made two prior field goals, was wide left on his third attempt, which would have been the game-winner. Barkley, who has been stressing how good he feels two years removed from a torn ACL, ripped off a 68-yard run in the Giants' first drive of the third quarter as part of a 90-yard scoring drive. Barkley capped off the scoring drive with a 4-yard touchdown run after reversing course from the right side to the left, where he had nothing but daylight.

They wound up outgaining Tennessee 394-359 in total offense despite being held to 133 yards in the first half. He got the Giants going with a 68-yard run to set up his TD. Seeing where he’s come from, he’s battled back from a lot of adversity, a lot of injuries, to see what he did today was a lot of fun to watch as a teammate and a friend.” Bullock played one game with the Giants in 2016 and made three game-winning kicks last year for Tennessee. Barkley gave Daboll and new general manager Joe Schoen a game ball apiece in the locker room.
The Tennessee Titans were stunned in their season opener against the NY Giants on Saquon Barkley's 2-point conversion, Randy Bullock's missed kick.
On the first play from scrimmage in the second half, Barkley broke free for a 68-yard run. After consecutive field goals to start the second quarter, the Titans punted on their next three drives. After the extra point, the game score was tied at 13. The ball bounced out of bounds, and the Giants had the ball at the 26. The Giants pulled within 20-19 on Daniel Jones' 1-yard TD pass to Chris Myarick with 1:06 remaining, then took the lead on a 2-point run by Saquon Barkley. Instead of electing to tie the score with an extra point, the Giants went for 2 and converted to take the 21-20 lead.
The Tennessee Titans collapsed in the second half, allowing the New York Giants to secure a 21-20 win in Week 1.
The Titans (0-1) had a chance to own sole possession of first place after Week 1, as the Colts and Texans tied and the Jaguars lost, but now they sit in the cellar tied with Jacksonville. He notched a pair of sacks, one of which caused a fumble the Titans recovered. Unfortunately, the Giants did a better job protecting Daniel Jones in the second half, allowing him to make some plays with his arm and legs. Farley would begin getting involved in the sub-package the next series but it’s clear he has work to do in order to work his way up the depth chart. However, he would muff a punt in the fourth quarter but was thankfully saved by an Amani Hooker pick in the end zone. -Todd Downing got too cute on multiple third-and-short plays, including going to a TE handoff on one late in the fourth quarter that got stuffed on third-and-1. -Ryan Tannehill wasn’t at his best in this game but did just enough to put the Titans in position to win. Burks had a pair of 20-plus yard gains, and Philips came up clutch on Tennessee’s final drive with three grabs, one of which set up the potential game-winner that Bullock missed. -The offensive line did a great job in pass protection, as Tannehill had plenty of time to throw all day and was sacked just once. Still, Tennessee will need more from the veteran, but we also have to remember this was his first game with a bunch of new players. The Titans scored just seven points in the second half, allowing Big Blue to climb back into this one. Bullock is usually money in these situations, but that wasn’t the case on Sunday.
The New York Giants upset the Tennessee Titans, 21-20, on Sunday and here are the winners and losers (and those in between) from the game.
Tae Crowder: The linebackers are a serious issue for the Giants and Crowder wasn’t close to perfect. Unfortunately for Crowder, he was also on the negative side of some plays — especially in coverage. That led to a major Titans return and subsequent score on Sunday, but his five punts inside the 20 overshadow that. In addition to surrendering a a 46-yard punt return and bobbling a snap costing them a PAT, they also had a couple missed tackles and kick return of just 17 yards. He allowed a big play with under 1:00 remaining and was called for two defensive holds. Saquon Barkley: One of the biggest takeaways for the Giants in Week 1 was the return and resurgence of Saquon.
We are going to ask that you go back and watch the game-winning sequence again, in which Saquon Barkley revived a dead-on-arrival shovel pass and plowed his way ...
We’re not ignoring how far they have to go or how lucky they’ll need to be in order to remain out of the doghouse in a market that has little sentimentality (let’s count the number of trade-Barkley-while-his-stock-is-high calls into the talk radio station tomorrow). We’re going to tell you that this was the story of the day Sunday in Nashville. We’re not going to tell you that Barkley will lead the league in rushing this year, or even come anywhere close. He was a talented player irresponsibly drafted into a maelstrom of confusion, the capstone of a structure that had no foundation or blueprint. We’re going to ask you to watch Barkley in the moments after, where it looks like he’s trying to tell us that this has been here all along. We’re not going to say this is the team
In his first game as New York's head coach, Brian Daboll ordered up a 2-point conversion play in the fourth quarter that led to the Giants' 21-20 victory ...
"This is what I was doing during the kick," he said. "He told us he wasn't going to coach scared. "He gave me that look, and I knew what the play was going to be. Daboll remembers before he left for that trip his grandfather telling him, "We're gonna win." He told us he's going to lean on the players to make plays. We all knew we were going for it because he told us [Saturday] night. "We were like, 'Hell yeah!' We weren't going to say no. We were glad we called it." He told us he's going to be aggressive. That is the mindset I want the players to have. He was always going with the aggressive approach. It was New York's first Week 1 win since 2016, which also happens to be the last time it made the playoffs.
The New York Giants won their Week 1 game against the Tennessee Titans. Here are the snap counts on offense, defense and special teams.
Here are the snap counts that contributed to the Giants’ victory. He’s climbed the ladder quickly. The game was sealed when Titans kicker Randy Bullock sailed a potential game-winning field goal wide, giving the Giants their first opening weekend victory since 2016.
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll made a gutsy decision to go for two and a victory in Week 1, and his players effin loved it.
Whatever the playcall is, we have got to do whatever we go to do to win. He told us he’s going to lean on the players to make plays. “He told us he wasn’t going to coach scared and that’s exactly what he did. “He’s been very clear throughout training camp and throughout the week preparing for this game that he’s going to be aggressive in those situations and give us the chance to execute. He said, “I am not going to coach scared,” and I believe everything the man says.” That’s the mindset I want the players to have.

Brian Daboll kept the promise he made to his team when he got the job, then followed through Sunday and the Giants gave him his first win as coach.
"The narrative can only change for good if we believe we can be a team that can do this every week, no matter the circumstances. Added Sterling Shepard, the longest tenured Giant and the only one in uniform who was on the field that last time the organization won a season opener: "From the day [Daboll] started he told us he wasn’t going to coach scared. Now the Giants head back to New Jersey to begin preparations for Sunday's home opener against the Carolina Panthers at MetLife Stadium. Daboll was one of the biggest reasons the Giants pulled off this upset of the team that finished last season as the No. "I was hoping the sumbitch would miss it." Down 20-19, just 66 seconds left on the clock, Daboll kept the offense on the field for a two-point conversion that likely was bound to mean devastation or euphoria. 1 seed in the AFC. Daboll's mother was 19 when he was born, and he has been open about never knowing his father. He has no siblings, and his grandparents were the patriarch and monarch of the family - they were married for 68 years before passing away three weeks apart last year, and the heartbreak has not left their grandson. After nearly getting choked up in his post-game news conference, Daboll finally let his emotions out while making his way back inside the Giants' locker room. Daboll trusted in his team, for sure, but if some divine intervention could help on that final kick, so be it. Let that sink in for a moment.
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll didn't flinch when poised with the question of whether to go for two and a potential win in his first game in charge ...
We have guys that really want to be in those positions to make that play. He told us he's going to lean on the players to make plays. "He gave me that look, and I knew what the play was going to be. He told us he's going to be aggressive. That's the mindset I want the players to have. The aggressive choice is part of a mentality the coach wants to instill in his players.
Saquon Barkley locked eyes with Brian Daboll when the head coach signaled for two after the Giants pulled within one point of the Titans with 1:06 left in ...
It's just one game and we've got to keep that mentality to be able to take a real look at what happened, get it fixed quickly and turn the page and get ready to go for next week." "You have a plan, you stick to it. There's going to be difficulties throughout a game, and you have to have a strong mind. I've got to try to find a way to get in that place a little bit more and a little quicker. You've got to turn the page quickly though. That's the mindset I want the players to have. "He gave me that look, and I knew what the play was going to be. It was 14 yards longer than any play by the team all of last season and came at a critical time after the Giants were shut out 13-0 in the first half. "He told us he wasn't going to coach scared, and that's exactly what he did. Cornerback Jason Pinnock recovered the ball for the Giants at the Tennessee 11, but three plays later, Jones was intercepted by Amani Hooker while trying to find Barkley in the end zone. "Going for the win," Daboll said. Daniel Jones had just thrown a one-yard touchdown pass to fullback Chris Myarick, but there was little doubt on the sideline about what was coming next.
The Giants have plenty of issues to address after their Week 1 win in Tennessee, but having faith their coach will always go for the win isn't one of them.
The Mariners led the whole game and entered the ninth with a 6-2 lead, only for Atlanta to score five runs off the Mariners bullpen on homers from Michael Harris II and Robbie Grossman to take a stunning lead. The Double-A Somerset Patriots lost in Hartford in a matchup that included four rehabbing Yankees. But the Jets played a statue at quarterback. With a truer kick, there would be far less excitement about this Giants team entering their home opener Sunday against the Panthers. The workload might not be sustainable, but that’s a concern for later. Perhaps last year, Joe Judge would not have allowed the Giants to take such a risk. The Jets’ season will not truly begin until Oct. The new Giants head coach announced himself — with both second-half adjustments and last-second bravado — as a coach who will act boldly and try to coach to his players’ strengths. He needed the ball in space, and so a shovel pass was dialed up. “Aggressive” is one of those terms that everyone strives to be during news conferences, but not many coaches are daring enough to hold up the two fingers he held up Sunday. It is this year, though, and so Barkley fought him off and kept barrelling his way into the end zone. Xs and Os matter more in football, but this is a meaningful foundation.
The New York Giants and Gatorade have selected Mr. Vaughn Labor of Binghamton High School (Binghamton, NY) as the Lou Rettino High School Coach of the Week ...
Each week during the high school football season, the Giants selected one area high school head coach as the Coach of the Week winner. Coach Labor is the head coach of the Binghamton Patriots girls high school flag football team that won the Section IV championship in the inaugural season of the new spring sport. Vaughn Labor of Binghamton High School (Binghamton, NY) as the Lou Rettino High School Coach of the Week for Week 1 of the 2022 season.
John Schmeelk: That's what it looks like when a player with elite talent takes over a game. The Giants had 394 yards of total offense and Saquon Barkley ...
On the first of their two scores, Matt Breida and Saquon Barkley collected eight rushing yards in the red zone and on their second opportunity, which resulted in a touchdown, Jones and Barkley combined for 18 rushing yards on five carries inside the Tennessee 20. Jihad Ward saw significant playing time (88% of the snaps) in their place and did a tremendous job of setting the edge in the run game, finishing with six tackles (five solo). On the flip side, just two of their 32 carries ended up as negative plays against a team that ranked second in the NFL in defending the run in 2021 and allowed the fewest 10+ runs is quite impressive. All those clichés are very fitting to describe the Giants' Week 1 win over the Titans and they actually took a page out of Tennessee's playbook to help record the victory: relying on a heavy dose of the run game. Barkley used his quickness to scoot outside of the attemped tackle and into the end zone, making a play that wasn't there. It was clear that slowing down Derrick Henry was the top priority and Wink Martindale's unit succeeded. But I try to prepare the best I can along with the other coaches on the staff and that's what I want out of players, too. Barkley made four of the Giants' 10 longest plays from scrimmage, including the longest (68 yards) and third-longest (33 yards). Barkley also had more than half of the Giants' second-half yards (135 yards out of 261 total yards). There's going to be plenty of times that I fail, and I understand that. And the Giants, who started 1-0 for the first time since 2016, need all of them they can get. On his 68-yard run, Amani Hooker had what looked like a good tackling angle, but Barkley turned on the burners and made what might have been a 15-yard gain into the biggest play of the afternoon for either team.
The New York Giants upset the Tennessee Titans, 21-20, in Week 1 and the Giants Wire team grades reflect that performance.
As for Wink Martindale, the defense seemed to be in a position to make plays on the ball but the lack of playmakers is noticeable. They also allowed a 46-yard punt return which led to the Titans’ first touchdown of the day. But the highlight of the game from the unit was when they recovered a fumble giving the Giants an instant red zone possession. This is clearly a very young group that will need to get more playing time to get a feel of the NFL game. The team also held the Titans’ ground attack relatively in check as Derrick Henry only totaled 82 yards on 21 carries and the Titans failed to score a touchdown or top 100 yards rushing on the day. While these were some great feats from this inexperienced defense, the rest of the day was not so great from this unit. The offensive line also opened up solid running lanes for the former Nittany Lion and the other running backs as the Giants totaled 238 yards on the ground on the day. Unfortunately, he had a costly interception in the red zone that would have given the Giants an attempt to tie the game up. While most of their production came off big plays (a 65-yard touchdown from Sterling Shepard and a 68-yard rush from Barkley led to two touchdowns), it was good to see some life from the offense. It would have been an amazing game for the fourth-year quarterback if he had not made this illogical mistake as he helped lead a game-winning drive that ended in a touchdown pass to Chris Myarick. This ended with the Giants going down 13-0 as they often put the defense in tricky situations. The Giants ended their first week woes as they traveled to Nashville and defeated the reigning AFC regular season champions.
Giants.com's John Schmeelk reviews what stood out from the 21-20 victory over the Titans.
The Titans punted to plays later to end their first drive of the second half, setting a tone for the rest of the game. His ability to get down the line to force Henry toward the sideline prevented a first down on 2nd-and-3 early in the third quarter. According to PFF, The Giants only ran Cover-0 twice, but had the fourth highest percentage (29%) of snaps running Cover-1 (man-to-man with a single high safety). The Giants also played 34% of their snaps in Cover-3 (zone with a single high safety). Maybe of most importance, the Giants finished the games with eight plays of 15+ yards and three plays that went for 30+ yards. After 11 of the Giants' 17 dropbacks in the first half featured no play-action or a RPO, only seven of the team's 14 dropbacks in the second half came without play-action or a RPO. According to PFF, Henry forced only three missed tackles in the game and had just one rush go for more than 10 yards. Barkley accounted for 135 of the Giants' 261 yards in the second half. Barkley accounted for just under half of the Giants yards (194 of 394 total yards) in the game. He thinks he has the angle on Saquon Barkley to either tackle him or push him out of bounds… Barkley had three plays of 15 yards or more, scored one of the team's three touchdowns, and had the game-winning 2-point conversion. Linebacker Dylan Cole came in untouched and should have had Barkley dead-to-rights, but Barkley was better on the play.
