So the preparation AND the performance need improvement. - The return of both RB Jaylan Knighton and LT Zion Nelson. - Not to harp on it, but QB Tyler Van Dyke. 4 tackles and a PBU on the day. - And, furthermore, everything just POPPED in the second half. He was all over the place, and had some good coverage and a few VERY STRONG tackles on the day. Today, it was 21 carries for 102 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He’s clearly TVD’s favorite receiver to this point of the season, and that comfortable relationship is very beneficial when times get tough on the field. The game was a bit closer than anybody (other than Southern Miss) would have liked, but we’ll get to that.

The Miami Hurricanes football team didn't have the best follow-up performance against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

The defense did a good job of stopping the run, but those missed sacks and cutting off Wilckes' chances to escape and create cost Miami. The Hurricanes were also obviously using a condensed playbook just as they did against Bethune-Cookman. Wilcke didn’t have a stellar game, but he was able to extend plays with his legs and as a result, had many chunk yardage passes. Van Dyke didn’t have a bad game in retrospect, but it’s not an ideal performance against a Group of Five opponent. The Canes tacked on 20 points in the second half and shut out the Golden Eagles, but it was a lackluster performance by Miami. Van Dyke did toss 241 yards and distributed the ball nicely despite being out of sync.
