The Bolt Creek Fire, which started north of Skykomish on early Saturday morning, has grown to approximately 2000 acres, according to the Washington State.

The fire started in a clearing north of Skykomish and is now moving west. Due to a large wildfire, a DNR Level-II evacuation order (‘ready to leave at a moment’s notice’) is in place from Skykomish to Baring (north side of Hwy 2). With no local detour, you should use US 97 Blewett to I-90 Snoqualmie for cross state travel today and please be fire wise! Local law enforcement is going door-to-door to notify residents.” Anyone in the area need to evacuate immediately. KCSO and/or Skykomish Fire will offer updates as they develop.

The Bolt Creek fire was first reported early Saturday. Evacuation orders have been issued for nearby communities.

Benjamin Jurkovich, a weather chaser who traveled to Index on Saturday morning to get a glimpse of the late-summer winds, said he could see flames on the mountains leaping 40 feet in the air.
