If he is to lead BYU to a win over a talented Baylor team, there must be a commitment to keep Baylor’s defense off balance with misdirection running and passing plays. Look for the Bears to spread the football around and make BYU play in space. If he can establish the run during the early portion of the contest, it will allow BYU’s quarterback play to have more chances for success. There may not be a particular player that stands out, but paying attention to how fundamentally sound this team is holds value for anyone watching the game. Hall threw to several different players, much like Shapen, during the first game for the Cougars. As for the game at BYU, there’s a basic question that must be asked first. Like their head coach Kalani Sitake, the BYU defense is scrappy. Starting in 2023, however, the Knights move to the Big XII. They operate out of the 3-4 and utilize one of the most powerful players in all of college football with nose tackle Siaki Ika. It’s going to be a great matchup for anyone that Baylor has speed and a solid amount of length. BYU, like UCF, joins the Big XII in 2023.

We got to find ways to get in the end zone. Early on in the game, we were bringing more pressure up through the middle, and then Plumlee and the guys were getting more outside. I think that was the difference, and just the mindset of "hey, I'll take one more step and try to get my arms wrapped around." He was a difference as far as just the tough, gritty yards that we needed to get. The thought was to try to get him before and gets started, because if he gets out in space, he's gonna be hard to tackle. There was a lot for him to put on his shoulders, and every time he came to the sideline, he was like, "Coach, I got it. On some tight coverage, we were able to get home and get some pressure on him. For them to battle back and to come up strong against a really fine football team in Central Florida, and to win it the way we did, I thought it was great. I think the first game, we didn't let him play his game enough, and I think tonight we did. (Jarvis) Brownlee had an unbelievable pick in the end endzone, looked like to me that he just kind of took it from the receiver when the receiver went up. I thought they kept trying to attack, out guys had a couple P.I.'s, but we just hung in there and kept battling. For them to come back and to play the way they did - a lot of negative talk last week.

Expectations were high for the Knights entering the season with a conference championship and a possible spot in the College Football Playoff as viable goals.

"What I'm doing, showing people that there is more to life than just playing football, is far more important," De La Haye said. "Imagine [De La Haye] in the portal right now -- how much would a collective pay to get him to the school? At first, De La Haye would buy a Playstation 5 to give to the winner. The first videos of this kind featured De La Haye challenging people to different things on and off the football field. One pivotal moment was when De La Haye attended an open tryout for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League team in 2019 as a way to create more videos around his quest to play football. "Technically, I made it to the league." But spend some time around the event and it's easy to see that, for the younger crowd, De La Haye is the star. De La Haye turns to the players, who have changed into their cleats and have huddled around him, and goes into hype man host mode. "I had to move out [from athlete housing] two days after I made the decision," De La Haye said.

An undisciplined UCF Knights Football team must make immediate corrections after 20-14 loss to Louisville Cardinals.

It’s about line calls that were or were not made when the Cardinals used a blitz, and also simply blocking better. If O’Keefe is out for any significant length of time, and there’s no news of his injury at the time of this article being published, UCF needs at least one more receiver to step up and begin to have the kind of timing with Plumlee that Baker does. [Ryan O’Keefe](https://www.si.com/college/ucf/university-of-central-florida-football/knights-wr-ryan-okeefe) left the lineup, or tight end Kemore Gamble left the lineup either. That does not mean an occasional big running lane is acceptable during an inside or outside zone play. That’s not going to get it done. [Javon Baker](https://www.si.com/college/ucf/university-of-central-florida-football/knights-profile-javon-baker) that was also called back. Next, it’s time to address the passing game. It’s obvious that quarterback John Rhys Plumlee has a definitive connection with Baker. Plus, wide receiver Amari Johnson is out and Kobe Hudson was not available to play. To beat a quality team like Louisville, having a long pass that ended inside the five and another that scored cannot take place. Here are three areas, amongst several that could be discussed for sure, that need to be addressed first and foremost. It’s part of a college football season to overcome it.
