What now for Prince Andrew after the Queen's death? (Daily Mail)

As Prince Philip once said, the Queen had 'tolerance in abundance' and she always tried to see the good in people. She was identified in reports as Mrs Giuffre, the US teenager with whom Andrew had been pictured. The commentator added of Andrew: 'When he was a baby he wasn't seen in public for months and rumours even circulated that there was something wrong with him. No member of the royal family receives a private income from the grant or any other public funds. There had also been rumours in the mid 1950s that all was not well with her marriage to Prince Philip and so a new child scotched those. 'That's why she allowed Fergie to continue living with Andrew and to see her still as a daughter-in-law, even though they were no longer a married couple. He could do no wrong in her eyes and the Queen was rather similar with Andrew'. It was reported that Prince William and Prince Charles had lobbied the Queen to ensure he did not attend. Maybe she indulged him too much and certainly she should have asked more questions about his lifestyle long before he was served with legal notices.' He only had himself to blame of course and it's difficult to feel sympathy for him, but as a mother she always supported him.' Royal author Phil Dampier told MailOnline: 'Prince Andrew will be devastated by the Queen's death because he was always her favourite child. But the Duke had no place at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.

The Queen was a staunch supporter of her son, but with the loss of his mother, Andrew looks set to remain in the royal wilderness. Even as the arrangements altered, the last-minute plan had been for Andrew to walk behind the Queen, who would be accompanied by the Dean of Westminster. Even the Earl of Snowdon, the Queen’s nephew, appeared to do a double take as he turned to look. He is likely to want to pay a public on-camera tribute to the Queen, just as he did for his father, the Duke of Edinburgh. The role is undertaken by any spouse of the monarch, Camilla, now Queen, and the next four adults in the line of succession, currently William, Harry, Andrew and the newly added Princess Beatrice. Andrew also remains in the line of succession, and is still a Counsellor of State.

It was the first time in her 70-year reign that the Queen has appointed a Prime Minister at Balmoral. She did go to the Windsor Horse Show in May and she was also the guest of honour at the equestrian extravaganza A Gallop Through History near Windsor, the first major event of the Jubilee festivities. She pulled out of the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in March, a significant date in the royal calendar given the importance to her of the family of nations, and did not attend the Maundy Thursday service. Until now, the Queen has never missed the Highland Games during her 70-year reign, following a tradition of the monarch attending which was started by Queen Victoria 174 years ago in 1848. She also made a surprise appearance to officially open the Elizabeth line at Paddington Station, looking bright and cheery, though her visit was limited to 10 minutes. In May 2022, she missed the State Opening of Parliament for the first time in nearly 60 years, with Buckingham Palace attributing her absence to 'episodic mobility problems'. 'My prayers, and the prayers of people across the (Church of England) and the nation, are with Her Majesty The Queen today,' Justin Welby tweeted. She was intent on attending the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph, but missed this due to a sprained back. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been due to attend the Wellchild Awards in London this evening but it is confirmed they have cancelled their appearance. Today she is under the supervision of doctors amid concerns about her health The duchess could potentially join Harry in Scotland at a later date, a source said, following a change of plan where it was initially suggested Meghan would go north with her husband. At 4pm a jet from RAF Northolt in London to Aberdeen landed carrying the Duke of York, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, and his wife Sophie, who filed off the plane led by Prince William.

What happens to Prince Andrew under King Charles' reign? (Accrington Observer)

The pre-printed Order of Service showed Andrew had actually been due to arrive with his daughters, but he ended up accompanying the Queen in her car to the Abbey. His bid to join the public royal procession on Garter Day soon after in 2022 was scuppered when Charles and William lobbied the Queen, insisting he only attended the private service and lunch. Andrew had already stepped down from public duties after his disastrous Newsnight interview in 2019, in which he failed to show remorse for his friendship with Epstein and display any sympathy for the financier’s victims. As Andrew walked alongside his mother, the Queen held on to his elbow for support as she moved carefully and slowly to her seat. Even the Earl of Snowdon, the Queen’s nephew, appeared to do a double take as he turned to look. The role is undertaken by any spouse of the monarch, Camilla, now Queen, and the next four adults in the line of succession, currently William, Harry, Andrew and the newly added Princess Beatrice. But peerages can only be removed by an act of parliament – although there are also limited circumstances in which hereditary peerages can be renounced by the holder. Andrew is believed to have received an annual salary from the Queen’s £21million a year private Duchy of Lancaster income. These will no doubt come in consultation with his eldest son and heir, the Duke of Cornwall and Cambridge. Charles will have to decide whether to fund his brother’s lifestyle, as the Queen did. The duke rushed to his mother’s bedside at Balmoral on Thursday, joining Charles, the Princess Royal, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and Camilla, now Queen Consort.
