The Peninsula Campground and day-use area is closed “until further notice.” Air quality near Folsom, as Friday morning, was unhealthy, according to Sacramento Region Spare the Air. The Folsom Lake State Recreation Area also closed parts of its park due to the Mosquito Fire. Gavin Newsom on Thursday evening declared a state of emergency](https://news.caloes.ca.gov/governor-newsom-proclaims-state-of-emergency-in-riverside-el-dorado-and-placer-counties-due-to-fires/) for El Dorado and Placer counties due to the Mosquito Fire. “Thus far, PG&E has observed no damage or abnormal conditions to the pole or our facilities near OxBow Reservoir, has not observed down conductor in the area or any vegetation related issues.” The Mosquito Fire on Wednesday and Thursday sent up enormous pyrocumulus clouds of smoke, at times resembling a mushroom cloud. Fire officials as of Thursday evening said the blaze was threatening 3,666 structures in the two counties. “The inversion’s set in right now,” Miller said Friday morning pointing up to a sky blanketed by smoke. As the fire roared during the day’s high temperatures, there was a steady stream of vehicles, RVs and trucks pulling horse trailers on Highway 193 toward Highway 49. Some 1,700 personnel were assigned to the blaze as of Thursday evening, according to Cal Fire. The fire, which ignited Tuesday evening near the Oxbow Reservoir in Placer County, has grown to at least 29,585 acres, aerial mapping from the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and Cal Fire said before noon.

The Mosquito Fire grew by almost 20000 acres on Thursday, crossing into El Dorado County and sending heavy smoke over the Lake Tahoe area.

On Friday afternoon, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said the fire was 29,585 acres (46 square miles) — an increase of more than 15,000 acres from the previous evening. The map above shows evacuation areas in pink. Amid record high temperatures and critically low fuel moisture levels, the fire has grown rapidly and “exhibited extreme behavior,” Cal Fire said. It doubled again from Thursday morning (6,807 acres) to that evening (13,704). Fairview, currently burning in Riverside County, is at 27,463 acres. The perimeter map showed one arm of the fire snaking to the edge of Foresthill.
