Obviously, Goff won't be the only quarterback on the roster when the season starts, so the Lions must already know of another quarterback they're going to bring ...

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Lions plan to sign former 49ers backup That leaves [Jared Goff](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/football/nfl/player/9277/jared-goff) as the only quarterback currently on the Lions’ 53-man roster. The Lions no longer have a backup quarterback.

The Detroit Lions are carrying just one quarterback on the roster after cutting backups David Blough and Tim Boyle.

However, the Lions clearly plan on bringing in some outside help for the backup job. In his rookie season, he ended up having to start five games for an injured Matthew Stafford, going 0-5 in the process. This comes just a day after cutting Tim Boyle, the other backup quarterback for the team.

The Detroit Lions officially have a new backup quarterback, signing Nate Sudfeld and waiving David Blough in a corresponding move.

But now, at least for now barring any further move, Sudfeld will be the No. Blough may land back with the Lions on the practice squad after clearing waivers. 3 spot on the depth chart for San Francisco. All with the Eagles from 2017-2019, over four games, Sudfeld has completed 25 of 37 passes for 188 yards with a touchdown and an interception in regular season action. In a corresponding move, according to [Tom Pelissero of NFL Network](https://twitter.com/TomPelissero/status/1564922688988418048?s=20&t=kgzhGn4ZSkIioHoZWlH0bQ), David Blough will be waived. Blough survived to the initial 53-man roster, but a little over 12 hours later now he’s gone.
