From Freddie Mercury to James Brown to Madonna herself, many of the artists that “Weird” Al Yankovic has parodied have either received the biopic treatment, ...

Demento (who, like in the movie, really did give Yankovic his first airplay); and Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna, who, unlike in the movie really didn’t seduce Al and drag him to the dark side. That trailer was more of an explicit parody of rise-and-fall dramatic music biopics, while the new promo for the new full-length movie shows a slick, slyer take. So it’s only fitting that the musical madman himself is finally getting his own origin story in Weird, a movie about Al’s rise to mainstream ubiquity—one that turns out to be a parody of biopics themselves.

The One Scene In The Weird Al Trailer That's Actually Real (Fatherly)

The new Daniel Radcliffe biopic about Weird Al — 'Weird: The Al Yankovic' story is a complete joke. But there's one thing that's legit.

He was also a DJ at the college’s radio station (KCPR) at the time, and his exposure to other comedy songs, and the repetition of The Knack’s then-hit “My Sharona,” lead to Yankovic recording his own parody of it in a men’s bathroom on campus. Still, this is a parodic “Hollywood biopic” and while some aspects may be true, the details are as random and apocryphal as an upended box of hamsters. Although the overall point of WEIRD is to be an intentionally over-the-top, utterly fictitious account of Weird Al’s (Daniel Radcliffe) rise to fame, there are some broad aspects of the retelling of Al Yankovic’s life that are truthful in spirit. [Rainn Wilson](https://www.fatherly.com/play/rainn-wilson-star-trek-family)) really was pivotal and supportive of Al at the beginning of his career. Well, turns out, there's basically only one scene in the trailer that actually occurred in real life. Just how much of this movie is a "real" biopic?

Weird Al's Five Best Parodies, in Honor of His New Biopic Trailer (Newsweek)

The trailer for 'Weird' just came out Monday, and to celebrate the comedy legend's parody of biopics, we take a look at his best takes on pop songs.

His version of "Peter and the Wolf" is performed with synthesizer legend Wendy Carlos, and is Yankovic's only foray into classical music. For this one-off single, originally released as one of Lin-Manuel Miranda's "Hamildrops," Yankovic crams just about the whole musical into a five-minute runtime. II, is rarely considered one of his "real" albums, and is the only disc to not appear in the career-spanning box set, Squeeze Box. Though he's the King of Suede, it sounds like he's just getting by, and his humble reign may not last. Some listeners objected to the use of the word "spastic" in a derogatory sense. The album it comes from, Peter and the Wolf/Carnival of the Animals, Pt. The issue was in getting permission—while George Lucas gave his blessing, the publishers of the original song, "Lola" by the Kinks, turned him down. "Yoda" is one of Yankovic's earliest and most-popular parodies. And although "Weird Al" Yankovic has kept a schedule of regular touring and TV cameo appearances since the release of 2014's Obviously, Yankovic takes words very seriously; it's impossible to write lyrics that are so clever and match the meter of an existing song so perfectly otherwise. One of Yankovic's most underrated skills is that of a rapper. The new film, starring Daniel Radcliffe, himself no stranger to strangeness with films like Swiss Army Man under his belt, is a warts-and-all biopic of the comedy legend.

Daniel Radcliffe will be starring as Weird Al Yankovic in an upcoming biopic and this poster shows him rocking hard.

Since leaving the Harry Potter franchise, Daniel Radcliffe has selected an interesting number of projects to be involved in. Daniel Radcliffe appears to be in a massive stadium of adoring fans, stepping on the upraised feet of the crowd and singing to the heavens. Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying the musician in a [Roku film](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weird:_The_Al_Yankovic_Story) titled Weird: The Al Yankovic Story and a new poster shows the actor in full regalia as the accordion-wielding comedy legend. The original director of the trailer, Eric Appel, returned to direct the feature film and co-wrote the screenplay along with Yankovic himself. Although Yankovic has been an immensely popular entertainer for decades now, the movie is presenting Daniel Radcliffe as a debauched, fame-addled version of him. In real life, Yankovic is known for avoiding profanity in his lyrics and is a non-drinker, non-smoker, and vegetarian.

Although Weird: The Al Yankovic Story looks like a fantastic and bellyaching-laughter-inducing piece of cinema, it is the farthest thing from a true representation of the quirky star's life. In the film, he can be seen at one point performing "Like a Surgeon" onstage while flanked by Madonna's backup dancers. The real Weird Al, despite being mega-famous, never really presented himself publicly in such a boisterous way. To which Madonna replies "Yes" and immediately transitions into a steamy make-out session, followed by Madonna adding, "Except for the fact that I've had a lot of sex." If there's one musician who effectively blended comedy and song to the highest degree, it's "Weird Al" Yankovic. This prompts Madonna to introduce herself and enter his home.
