Nik Bonitto Says Buffalo Loss Motivated Broncos Entering Game 3 (Sports Illustrated)

The Denver Broncos were fully aware of how bad preseason Game 2 was and stormed back with a vengeance in the finale vs. the Minnesota Vikings.

Especially throughout preseason when I know that I’ve been getting kind of close to the quarterback,” Bonitto said. “We took pride in that performance last week and we knew that it wasn’t up to our standard,” Bonitto admitted after beating the Vikings. Redoubling his efforts during the week of practice leading up to the Vikings game paid off, and Bonitto was just thankful for an opportunity to make amends. Added motivation certainly played its part on Saturday, but Bonitto admitted that for him, it’s more a case of feeding off of confidence, and sacks tend to provide that. Watching him be able to get those—he had a bunch of tackles, had those two sacks, which was great. He had to keep going out there a couple times because we couldn't get a couple first downs, which was really frustrating...

8 Broncos Vested Veterans on Roster Bubble (Sports Illustrated)

The Broncos have had a competition between Martin and newcomer Corliss Waitman for the punting job. It doesn't make sense for the Broncos to move Glasgow at this point. That may mean the Broncos cut him and keep a younger lineman around for Week One, then bring Fleming back. If he was on the bubble, you would think he'd see action in at least one preseason game. Turner is practicing again, but Compton went on the PUP list for the regular season and will miss at least the first four games. However, Rypien isn't a vested veteran, meaning his salary will not become fully guaranteed if he's on the Week 1 roster. That gives him an advantage over other backs on the roster. Tomlinson was signed this offseason to be the primary blocking tight end. For some veterans who were on the bubble, they had money already guaranteed, so the Broncos wouldn't save cash by cutting them. But that has changed for several reasons. There are, of course, several undrafted rookies who have made a good impression, plus several younger players who have been on notice, given the competition for roster spots. Instead, we'll look at veterans on the bubble whose base salaries will become guaranteed, if they aren't already.

Final 53-man roster prediction for Broncos (Broncos Wire)

The Broncos have to set a 53-man roster before Tuesday's deadline. Here's what it might look like.

Bobenmoyer’s spot might be in jeopardy if the Broncos like any long snappers who become available during roster cuts. Reed might be a trade candidate or a potential option for the practice squad. Essang Bassey should be a target for the practice squad if he doesn’t make the active roster. Justin Strnad and Kana’i Mauga should be candidates for the practice squad. If he doesn’t make the 53-man roster, Cooper would be a top practice squad target. Devine Ozigbo and JaQuan Hardy will both be candidates for the practice squad

Broncos stock up/down: Risers and fallers after final preseason game (Broncos Wire)

Stock down: Donnie Lewis Jr. Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports. Lewis was picked on heavily by Vikings quarterbacks in the second half of the game.

In the wake of a big injury, it was great to see Hamler starring out on the field again. McTelvin Agim stripped the ball from Vikings quarterback Sean Mannion, which was recovered by Baron Browning, who took it in for a touchdown and a commanding lead before halftime. If it had not been for the amazing defensive score to cap the half, it would have been a frustrating way to end the first 30 minutes. The rookie from Samford electrified the crowd at Empower Field at Mile High with an 11-yard rushing touchdown. Mind you, 44 yards from one player was more than the Broncos as a team had against the Cowboys. Here are six aspects of the game that the Denver decision-makers will look at to aid their conclusions.

Risers and Fallers from the Denver Broncos' victory over the Vikings (Mile High Sports)

Which Denver Broncos starred and which ones stunk in the team's final preseason game -- a home bout with the Minnesota Vikings?

Delarrin Turner-Yell was an explosive force in the run game, and he nearly stuffed the Vikings on a pivotal fourth and goal. He brought the heat again on fourth down, pressuring the quarterback out of the pocket, where Agim and his big mits were waiting for him. In many cases, that sack would’ve resulted in points off the board for the Vikings. Williams came up big with a 45-yard diving grab from Brett Rypien, which catapulted the Denver Broncos into Vikings territory. Devine Ozigbo also had a terrific debut in orange and blue, leading the team with 59 rushing yards. That means he was one split-second away from having two fourth-and-goal stuffs. Through two preseason games, the Denver Broncos accumulated a paltry 71 rushing yards on 39 carries. The running back happened to recover his own fumble, but it was still a big play. Nik Bonitto was the star of the show, as he closed out the game with a remarkable three-play stretch. Time will tell if it was enough to earn him a roster spot. [final roster cuts](https://milehighsports.com/predicting-the-denver-broncos-53-man-roster-for-2022/) just a couple days out, several players found themselves playing for a roster spot. Boone averaged 8.8 yards per carry

5 Numbers That Tell the Story Of the Vikings-Broncos Preseason ... (Zone Coverage)

The Minnesota Vikings played their preseason finale in Mile High Stadium, falling to the Denver Broncos, 23-13. Vikings fans didn't get a look at new.

[Dalvin Cook](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CookDa01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) and [Alexander Mattison](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MattAl01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) looking like an incredible one-two punch for this running attack, and Kene Nwanguwu set to be the primary kick returner, the Vikings were looking to head into the season with just three running backs. [Greg Joseph](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/J/JoseGr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) took advantage of that thin Mile High air when he nailed a 58-yard field goal. The crown jewel of his performance was a 68-yard boot that pinned the ball at Denver’s two-yard line. The only blemish of the night was his final kick going for a touchback, but even then he was able to show off his massive leg. While one good game doesn’t put the issue to rest, it will likely be enough for him to win the job over rookie [Jalen Nailor](https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/jalen-nailor-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-). He showed the upside that inspired the old regime to select him in the fifth-round last season even though he was a relatively unknown commodity. He got his redemption against the Broncos and showed he could be dangerous with the ball in his hands. [Ihmir Smith-Marsette](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/SmitIh00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) settled some of the questions surrounding the punt-return game with a 21-yard runback. He excelled both as a holder and a punter. Following Berry’s surprise release, all eyes were on the rookie from Tulane to justify his promotion. Davidson really struggled last week, and it looked like he had played himself out of a potential roster spot when he dropped three of his four targets. Vikings fans didn’t get a look at new backup quarterback

Games balls for the Denver Broncos preseason win over Minnesota ... (Mile High Report)

The Denver Broncos closed out their preseason with a convincing 23-13 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Here are the players who stood out to us.

Browning has a spot on the 53-man roster, and I think he has done enough this preseason to back up Bradley Chubb and Randy Gregory. I’m glad he had himself a great night, and hopefully he can find a spot on the practice squad if he doesn’t make it to the final roster. Baron Browning throughout the preseason has been really impressive he just changed his position from middle linebacker to an outside linebacker and I think he’s put himself in a spot to be above another outside linebacker Malik Reed. Mauga is a bit of a long shot to make the final roster, but he sure put on a performance against the Vikings that might make the coaches think twice about keeping him. He has been explosive getting off the line, he has an excellent first move, he’s quick and athletic and even in the game against the Vikings, he scored the Broncos’ last touchdown with a huge scoop and score, and in the game against the Cowboys he showed out with four tackles, one sack, and one pass break up. It was awesome to see Hamler back on the field for the Broncos on Saturday night, doing what he loves most. Hopefully this leads to him having an impact for the Broncos offense and team this season. While Gordon and Williams look to dominate the majority of the backfield work, Boone has shown enough talent to require a handful of carries per game. Mike Boone continues to look the part of a necessary element in the Hackett offense. But when you do it with all Hamler has had to experience and overcome, you get a game ball. To leave him waiting in the wings would be a waste of his immense skill as he brings a certain flavor to the Denver backfield the other runners do not. From a goal line stand on fourth down that would be overturned, to another fourth down stop inside the Broncos’ five yard line.

5 Broncos players that boosted their roster chances vs. Vikings (Predominantly Orange)

Which Denver Broncos players boosted their chances of making the roster after the team's preseason win against the Minnesota Vikings?

Unfortunately, what Agim showed in this preseason finale is more than we’ve seen from any of the other backup defensive linemen in the preseason combined. Agim was all over the field for the Broncos against the Vikings, racking up a sack, two forced fumbles, two batted passes, and two total tackles. Unfortunately, we didn’t see it enough in his first two NFL seasons and we didn’t see it in the Broncos’ first two preseason games, either.

Denver Broncos 53-man roster prediction after final preseason game (Predominantly Orange)

Did anybody go out and win a roster spot in the Denver Broncos' final preseason game? Here is our final 53-man roster prediction before cuts.

[53-man roster spots](https://predominantlyorange.com/2022/08/26/denver-broncos-mike-klis-roster-prediction-interesting/) have been decided at this point, so it’s not likely that this one game would tip the scales a ton one way or another. The players went out and did their best to make a final impression on the front office and coaching staff, and now we have a pretty good idea of where things stand for the majority of position groups. [The Denver Broncos](http://predominantlyorange.com) closed out their preseason against the [Minnesota Vikings](http://thevikingage.com) with a much better performance this time around than we saw last week against Buffalo.

Denver Broncos 53-man roster prediction: Final edition 2022 (Mile High Report)

Based on the players I am projecting to the 53-man active roster here, these would be my Broncos players that should make it onto the 16-man practice squad. NFL rules allow up to 16 players on a team’s practice squad. Smart to work him back slowly as injuries have been an issue along the offensive line during camp. For the injured reserve section, these are only for players not already on IR. However, there was a punting competition and while I had initially assumed Sam Martin would be the guy that assumption was vanquished over the last two weeks of the preseason. I would classify Delarrin Turner-Yell as the fifth guy on the depth chart, but he’s fresh off a monster game in the preseason finale and played well enough to earn This could be the best offensive line Russell Wilson has had in years. The competition for the final roster spots was fierce and we have been pleasantly surprised by the results. If you had asked me just over a week ago who had this spot locked down it was the wily veteran Josh Johnson, but head coach Nathaniel Hackett made a call for consistency heading into the final preseason game and it sure looked like Brett Rypien was the more consistent of the two in the game. The final 53 won’t even be the final 53, but we do like to see if we can predict where head coach Nathaniel Hackett will go with each position group before that deadline.

8 trade candidates for Broncos during roster cuts (Broncos Wire)

These players might be on the trade block as the Broncos approach the deadline for a 53-man roster.

Whoever doesn’t win the job could be a trade candidate, especially with the Buffalo Bills Locke and Delarrin Turner-Yell all seem like locks, leaving Reed as the odd man out. Similar to OLB, the Broncos are loaded with depth at safety. Following Baron Browning’s emergence as an edge rusher, Denver has fantastic depth at outside linebacker. Purcell is 31 and he’s set to have a cap hit of $4,347,695 this season. Unless the team plans to give Risner an extension, trading him now before his contract expires would make sense.

Denver Broncos potential final transactions at 2022 roster cuts (Predominantly Orange)

After the preseason finale, what are some of the final moves you might see from George Paton to complete the Denver Broncos roster?

Dwayne Stukes obviously thinks that is Tyrie Cleveland when he returns from his throat injury, therefore, Tyrie Cleveland needs to be a member of the 53-man roster. If George Paton thinks the Denver Broncos could recoup a seventh-round pick from the Buffalo Bills by trading Sam Martin, I do not think he would hesitate. Baron Browning’s ability to adapt on the outside has been a revelation for the depth of this position. When I say trouble, I just mean trouble for him being on the Denver Broncos this season. Jonathon Cooper and Malik Reed are about as good as you will find on the back end of a team’s pass-rushing depth chart. His body type compares well to McTelvin Agim’s and would not be a bad option if the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to move on from Adams. Having extra depth in this group with the skillsets you face this season is a must. McTelvin Agim wreaked havoc all night long and probably played himself on a 53-man roster somewhere, if not with the Denver Broncos. Adding a free agent cornerback as well as scouring the waiver wire at this point seems like the best move for the Denver Broncos. At a position that once seemed deep and ridden with quality backups, the last couple of preseason games has flipped the script on that narrative. looks like he is a practice squad candidate and Essang Bassey has been OK, but ok is not enough when playing in the wild, wild AFC West. That is fine, he should make the roster, but as the last cornerback on.

Both quarterbacks’ lack of success is concerning: Denver was one of the worst teams in the entire NFL last season in the two-minute drill. Going into the 53-man roster cuts, Broncos coaches seem to truly have a toss-up on the backup job. There could be a bunch of takeaways from this game, but we are only going to focus on the top three as the team wraps up preseason.

Watch Nathaniel Hackett's Wild Victory Speech After Beating Vikings (Sports Illustrated)

The Denver Broncos' head coach was fired up after the team's 23-13 win over the Minnesota Vikings.

From there, the Broncos take to the road in a Week 1 bout at the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. The O-line of second and third-stringers did a solid job opening up holes for the backs and did not relinquish a single sack in preseason Game 3. Next up, the Broncos have the final roster cut-down deadline, which is Tuesday at 2 pm MDT. Hackett's energy is definitely a shot in the arm, and we're seeing in truncated form that his schematic philosophies are also a big upgrade over the coaching staff of yore. For an exhibition game, Denver's third and final preseason frame was weighted down with some weird ju-ju after the team stunk it up the week prior in Buffalo. Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett needed to exorcise that pesky demon, and it's safe to say, he succeeded.

Broncos: 3 surprise roster cuts Denver could make before Week 1 (ClutchPoints)

There are definitely some locks to make the Broncos roster, but are there some chances at some surprise cuts?

He is undeniably worth a spot on the final Broncos roster, but again, the team is deep at wide receiver and could be part of the shortlist to get cut. But unfortunately for Reed, there is a chance he could be one of the surprise cuts before the season. How many wide receivers the Broncos use to carry throughout the season, could determine whether or not Hinton makes the roster. There are definitely some locks to make the Broncos roster, but are there some chances at some surprise cuts? Broncos' Biggest Winners & Losers in Preseason Win Over Vikings (Sports Illustrated)

The Denver Broncos received several noteworthy performances in preseason Game 3, and few clunkers.

Kendall Hinton has been viewed as a near-lock to make the roster by many in media, but outside of Game 1, he's failed to make an impact. There's no doubt that Virgil has a place with this team but the foibles of Game 3 might see him get exposed to the waiver wire. These two young Broncos answered the bell on Saturday night in a big bad way. It's safe to say that Williams did just that, leading the team with four receptions on five targets for 68 yards. It was a very encouraging performance by two young Broncos badly in need of some cache. Mauga might not have won a roster spot but he's getting re-signed to the practice squad. Against the Vikings, he went 14-of-21 for 137 yards with an interception and a passer rating of 65.0. There were a few missed tackles but credit Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad for leading the way. It was nice seeing newcomer Devine Ozigbo lead the team in rushing with 13 carries for 59 yards. The Denver Broncos can breathe a sigh of relief. Those numbers would have looked drastically different had his goal-line pass to KJ Hamler not been tipped, where it was easily plucked out of the air for an interception. This team played with intensity and want-to, assuaging some of the concerns about head coach Nathaniel Hackett in the fan base.
