Nik Bonitto Says Buffalo Loss Motivated Broncos Entering Game 3 (Sports Illustrated)

The Denver Broncos were fully aware of how bad preseason Game 2 was and stormed back with a vengeance in the finale vs. the Minnesota Vikings.

Especially throughout preseason when I know that I’ve been getting kind of close to the quarterback,” Bonitto said. “We took pride in that performance last week and we knew that it wasn’t up to our standard,” Bonitto admitted after beating the Vikings. Redoubling his efforts during the week of practice leading up to the Vikings game paid off, and Bonitto was just thankful for an opportunity to make amends. Added motivation certainly played its part on Saturday, but Bonitto admitted that for him, it’s more a case of feeding off of confidence, and sacks tend to provide that. Watching him be able to get those—he had a bunch of tackles, had those two sacks, which was great. He had to keep going out there a couple times because we couldn't get a couple first downs, which was really frustrating...

8 Broncos Vested Veterans on Roster Bubble (Sports Illustrated)

The Broncos have had a competition between Martin and newcomer Corliss Waitman for the punting job. It doesn't make sense for the Broncos to move Glasgow at this point. That may mean the Broncos cut him and keep a younger lineman around for Week One, then bring Fleming back. If he was on the bubble, you would think he'd see action in at least one preseason game. Turner is practicing again, but Compton went on the PUP list for the regular season and will miss at least the first four games. However, Rypien isn't a vested veteran, meaning his salary will not become fully guaranteed if he's on the Week 1 roster. That gives him an advantage over other backs on the roster. Tomlinson was signed this offseason to be the primary blocking tight end. For some veterans who were on the bubble, they had money already guaranteed, so the Broncos wouldn't save cash by cutting them. But that has changed for several reasons. There are, of course, several undrafted rookies who have made a good impression, plus several younger players who have been on notice, given the competition for roster spots. Instead, we'll look at veterans on the bubble whose base salaries will become guaranteed, if they aren't already.

Final 53-man roster prediction for Broncos (Broncos Wire)

The Broncos have to set a 53-man roster before Tuesday's deadline. Here's what it might look like.

Bobenmoyer’s spot might be in jeopardy if the Broncos like any long snappers who become available during roster cuts. Reed might be a trade candidate or a potential option for the practice squad. Essang Bassey should be a target for the practice squad if he doesn’t make the active roster. Justin Strnad and Kana’i Mauga should be candidates for the practice squad. If he doesn’t make the 53-man roster, Cooper would be a top practice squad target. Devine Ozigbo and JaQuan Hardy will both be candidates for the practice squad

Broncos stock up/down: Risers and fallers after final preseason game (Broncos Wire)

Stock down: Donnie Lewis Jr. Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports. Lewis was picked on heavily by Vikings quarterbacks in the second half of the game.

In the wake of a big injury, it was great to see Hamler starring out on the field again. McTelvin Agim stripped the ball from Vikings quarterback Sean Mannion, which was recovered by Baron Browning, who took it in for a touchdown and a commanding lead before halftime. If it had not been for the amazing defensive score to cap the half, it would have been a frustrating way to end the first 30 minutes. The rookie from Samford electrified the crowd at Empower Field at Mile High with an 11-yard rushing touchdown. Mind you, 44 yards from one player was more than the Broncos as a team had against the Cowboys. Here are six aspects of the game that the Denver decision-makers will look at to aid their conclusions.

Risers and Fallers from the Denver Broncos' victory over the Vikings (Mile High Sports)

Which Denver Broncos starred and which ones stunk in the team's final preseason game -- a home bout with the Minnesota Vikings?

Delarrin Turner-Yell was an explosive force in the run game, and he nearly stuffed the Vikings on a pivotal fourth and goal. He brought the heat again on fourth down, pressuring the quarterback out of the pocket, where Agim and his big mits were waiting for him. In many cases, that sack would’ve resulted in points off the board for the Vikings. Williams came up big with a 45-yard diving grab from Brett Rypien, which catapulted the Denver Broncos into Vikings territory. Devine Ozigbo also had a terrific debut in orange and blue, leading the team with 59 rushing yards. That means he was one split-second away from having two fourth-and-goal stuffs. Through two preseason games, the Denver Broncos accumulated a paltry 71 rushing yards on 39 carries. The running back happened to recover his own fumble, but it was still a big play. Nik Bonitto was the star of the show, as he closed out the game with a remarkable three-play stretch. Time will tell if it was enough to earn him a roster spot. [final roster cuts](https://milehighsports.com/predicting-the-denver-broncos-53-man-roster-for-2022/) just a couple days out, several players found themselves playing for a roster spot. Boone averaged 8.8 yards per carry

5 Numbers That Tell the Story Of the Vikings-Broncos Preseason ... (Zone Coverage)

The Minnesota Vikings played their preseason finale in Mile High Stadium, falling to the Denver Broncos, 23-13. Vikings fans didn't get a look at new.

[Dalvin Cook](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CookDa01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) and [Alexander Mattison](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MattAl01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) looking like an incredible one-two punch for this running attack, and Kene Nwanguwu set to be the primary kick returner, the Vikings were looking to head into the season with just three running backs. [Greg Joseph](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/J/JoseGr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) took advantage of that thin Mile High air when he nailed a 58-yard field goal. The crown jewel of his performance was a 68-yard boot that pinned the ball at Denver’s two-yard line. The only blemish of the night was his final kick going for a touchback, but even then he was able to show off his massive leg. While one good game doesn’t put the issue to rest, it will likely be enough for him to win the job over rookie [Jalen Nailor](https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/jalen-nailor-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-). He showed the upside that inspired the old regime to select him in the fifth-round last season even though he was a relatively unknown commodity. He got his redemption against the Broncos and showed he could be dangerous with the ball in his hands. [Ihmir Smith-Marsette](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/SmitIh00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) settled some of the questions surrounding the punt-return game with a 21-yard runback. He excelled both as a holder and a punter. Following Berry’s surprise release, all eyes were on the rookie from Tulane to justify his promotion. Davidson really struggled last week, and it looked like he had played himself out of a potential roster spot when he dropped three of his four targets. Vikings fans didn’t get a look at new backup quarterback

Games balls for the Denver Broncos preseason win over Minnesota ... (Mile High Report)

The Denver Broncos closed out their preseason with a convincing 23-13 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Here are the players who stood out to us.

Browning has a spot on the 53-man roster, and I think he has done enough this preseason to back up Bradley Chubb and Randy Gregory. I’m glad he had himself a great night, and hopefully he can find a spot on the practice squad if he doesn’t make it to the final roster. Baron Browning throughout the preseason has been really impressive he just changed his position from middle linebacker to an outside linebacker and I think he’s put himself in a spot to be above another outside linebacker Malik Reed. Mauga is a bit of a long shot to make the final roster, but he sure put on a performance against the Vikings that might make the coaches think twice about keeping him. He has been explosive getting off the line, he has an excellent first move, he’s quick and athletic and even in the game against the Vikings, he scored the Broncos’ last touchdown with a huge scoop and score, and in the game against the Cowboys he showed out with four tackles, one sack, and one pass break up. It was awesome to see Hamler back on the field for the Broncos on Saturday night, doing what he loves most. Hopefully this leads to him having an impact for the Broncos offense and team this season. While Gordon and Williams look to dominate the majority of the backfield work, Boone has shown enough talent to require a handful of carries per game. Mike Boone continues to look the part of a necessary element in the Hackett offense. But when you do it with all Hamler has had to experience and overcome, you get a game ball. To leave him waiting in the wings would be a waste of his immense skill as he brings a certain flavor to the Denver backfield the other runners do not. From a goal line stand on fourth down that would be overturned, to another fourth down stop inside the Broncos’ five yard line.

Projecting the Broncos' 53-player roster before the NFL's Tuesday ... (104.3 The Fan)

Mase projects the Broncos' 53-man roster after Saturday's preseason finale … and he expects at least one trade to happen.

In the disaster that was the Aug. The Broncos will want Faion Hicks and Bless Austin for the practice squad. The Broncos could also dangle Agim in a trade. He could be dangled in the trade market, but it might be unwise to trade such a seasoned reserve. And it’s not like Henningsen had a bad game Saturday; he was part of the surge that nearly led to a goal-line stop and was the focal point of multiple Minnesota double-teams. He was also durable; he missed just one game in four Broncos seasons and just three in the same number of Bucs years. Jones’ back issues have a habit of flaring up — as was the case in OTAs and camp. And with Rypien, the Broncos have waived him in each of the last three seasons and successfully brought him back to the practice squad each time. This became one of the most competitive positions on the roster. If you remember the Broncos of the early 2000s, you might remember Hape. His work against the Cowboys and in brief action against Buffalo showed that the practice reps against the Joneses had steeled hm. If Denver can’t find a backup upgrade on the market, it would be no surprise if Johnson and Rypien are both back in some capacity — one on the practice squad, one on the 53-player roster — by the end of this week.

5 Broncos players that boosted their roster chances vs. Vikings (Predominantly Orange)

Which Denver Broncos players boosted their chances of making the roster after the team's preseason win against the Minnesota Vikings?

Unfortunately, what Agim showed in this preseason finale is more than we’ve seen from any of the other backup defensive linemen in the preseason combined. Agim was all over the field for the Broncos against the Vikings, racking up a sack, two forced fumbles, two batted passes, and two total tackles. Unfortunately, we didn’t see it enough in his first two NFL seasons and we didn’t see it in the Broncos’ first two preseason games, either.
