New England takes on Las Vegas in its preseason finale.

The second of those saw him shut down a running attempt on 4th-and-1 to force a turnover on downs at the New England 49-yard line. New England opened the second half on defense, with the unit again forcing a quick punt. Zappe then led the troops to their second score of the night, a 22-yard Nick Folk field goal. Taylor coming up with the football to keep New England in possession of the ball. With him and the rest of the starting offense on the bench, Brian Hoyer took over at quarterback. The unit was able to force a three-and-out of its own, with a stuffed run and incomplete pass bookending a 7-yard catch and run. New England started to mix some backups in on its next defensive drive, but the group immediately gave up a 45-yard completion on an apparent miscommunication between Terrance Mitchell and Adrian Phillips. A 12-yard completion to Kendrick Bourne on 4th-and-3 moved the chains, but the drive eventually stalled after a DeVante Parker offensive pass interference negated a touchdown catch. What followed, however, was a rough sequence of plays: first, Ty Montgomery went down with an injury and had to be assisted off the field; later, Jones threw a bad interception to end the drive. Coming out in a 12-personnel look, the unit started with a promising completion to DeVante Parker before back-to-back negative plays: first Rhamondre Stevenson was stopped for a loss of 4 before a 13-yard sack against Jones. The unit started with a 10-yard holding penalty on Michael Onwenu, but did avoid going three-and-out again thanks to a Mac Jones scramble. Things did not go much better for the Patriots starting defense, which gave up a plays of 5, 14 and 30 yards to allow Jarrett Stidham and Las Vegas’ offense to move into the red area quickly.

Raiders: 2 bold predictions for final preseason game vs Patriots (ClutchPoints)

The Las Vegas Raiders are looking to cap off a perfect preseason campaign against the New England Patriots. What are some bold predictions?

As the preseason has gone on, the former Patriot has proved to be just that—the victor of the backup role. Still, the trade was made, and Stidham headed to Las Vegas with dreams of earning the backup role. As it turns out, McDaniels made the right call, and the former Patriot quarterback proved exactly why he was desirable. Formerly a long time offensive coordinator in New England, McDaniels thought it best to trade a future draft pick for a quarterback he both knew well and understood his system. It was a magical day for the young signal-caller, who threw for three touchdowns and no interceptions. Stidham’s career QB rating is practically half of Mullens’ as well, coming in at 46.4 compared to Mullens’ 87.3. It isn’t a stretch to say Webb has been the most impressive cornerback for Las Vegas this preseason. As he found himself with all the open space he can dream of after recovering a fumble, the referees decided to blow the whistle and call the ball dead instead of letting it play out. That proved to be a mistake and serve as yet another example of why you always let plays continue. If Las Vegas decides to roll with six corners, there’s no reason Webb won’t be next in line. If he plays well against the Patriots, he likely will earn a roster spot. The showdown is set to begin tonight as we watch if McDaniels can beat his old Patriot buddies, or if New England gets the last laugh.

The NFL preseason has officially reached crunch time, with teams across the league kicking off their last exhibition game before final cuts on Tuesday.

After being stuffed for no gain, Harris caught a pass for seven yards, and Zappe found Nixon for 17 to take it to the two-minute warning. The Patriots will start the drive from their own 25, desperately in need of points. Faced with 3rd and Goal from the 3, Las Vegas ran the same play it did in the first quarter - a toss to the left, this time to Brown. Las Vegas converted a key 3rd and 6 on a tough pass to Zuber to move inside the red zone, with Marcus Jones in close proximity. Zappe was sacked for a loss of six on the first play, but Harris turned in another effective run, gaining 11 to give New England a manageable 3rd and 5. Keeping the ball through the air, Garbers found Brown for a six-yard gain, but his next two passes fell incomplete. The Raiders give the Patriots the ball back at the New England 49. Garbers hit Walter out of the backfield, and he was drilled instantly by rookie Jack Jones, forcing a fumble that eventually went out of bounds for a three-yard loss. In a huge scramble, Taylor sprinted and dove for the ball, saving the possession for New England. On the first play, Mac Jones found DeVante Parker for a gain of eight yards. The Raiders opted to kick a 23-yard field goal, which Carlson knocked through the uprights. The Raiders aren't expected to play quarterback Derek Carr, receiver Davante Adams or any of their other first-team players, while the Patriots will only give their starters "

4 Keys from Patriots preseason-ending loss to Raiders (Patriots.com)

Here are the five keys from the game as we bury this 2022 preseason and move on to real football. Starting Offense Keeps Sputtering. It was another rough ...

Harris was the only one of the trio to make an impression going forward in the game. Harris was on the sidelines for the preseason game, a positive sign, but his availability becomes even more paramount with Montgomery going down. The last thing you ever want to see in a preseason game is a significant injury and the Patriots look like they may have some complications after the game with a couple of them. However, Harris flashed ball security issues with a fumble, while also putting the ball on the ground earlier in the game. One more potential injury situation to highlight was Devin Asasi's absence from the preseason game. Given how the offense has looked the defense has a lot on its shoulders out of the gate. They're in for another level of competition against the Dolphins with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle in just over two weeks and similar busted coverages are going to quickly end up with long-range scores. Mac Jones and the starters saw action in about four series but fell into a 13-3 hole after turnovers and big plays hurt them on both sides of the ball. Here's rundown of nice plays that could make a difference when roster cuts come on Tuesday and when gameplans are considered for Week 1. The spread offense remains their most effective scheme and it's likely what they'll lean most heavily into with their gameplans for the regular season. The Patriots dropped their third and final preseason game to the Raiders, 23-6, as New England turned in an unfortunately sloppy performance after two solid days of good work at joint practices. Their only first down came via a scramble on the middle drive after Mac couldn't find an open target.

NFL preseason Final score: Raiders 23, Patriots 6 (Silver and Black Pride)

Let's take a look at the key aspects of the game: Records: The Raiders are 4-0 (it's the first time in team history the Raiders went undefeated in preseason).

If it translates to the starters in the regular season, this team will be super dangerous. It was the first time in 11 years an NFL team did not commit a turnover. Tuesday, will play at the The Raiders continued a great trend. It was a bit odd that receiver Keelan Cole was playing late in the final preseason game. Also, the Raiders didn’t turn the ball over all preseason. Undrafted rookie linebacker Luke Masterson had another strong game as he picked off Jones in the first quarter and had a nice return. Fellow undrafted free agents, linebacker Darien Butler and Sam Webb also played well and also have a chance to make the 53-man roster. The Patriots’ starters had just three points on three series against the Raiders’ backups. Backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham, acquired in a trade with the Patriots this year, has been good all preseason and he hit tight end Jesper Horsted for a big play. Alex Leatherwood, the Raiders’ first-round pick in 2021, came in the second quarter at right tackle, illustrating how he has fallen out of favor after a rough preseason. The starting lineup, filled with mostly backups, moved the ball well against most of New England’s starting defense on the opening drive.

He was also able to lead the Raiders to scores on two of his three drives. And with an average of 5.5 yards per completion, there weren’t enough big plays to offset the mistakes. Kevin Harris was a bright spot for the run game with some solid carries including a 33-yard run. This week, it was Ty Montgomery. Last week, it was Tyquan Thornton. Quarterback: Derek Carr, Jarrett Stidham (2) · Running Back/ Fullback: Josh Jacobs, Ameer Abdullah, Zamir White, Brandon Bolden, Jakob Johnson (4) · Wide Receiver ...

This is the best linebacker group that the Raiders have fielded in years. The Raiders can’t possibly go into the season with this group. Due to the injuries of offseason acquisitions Jordan Jenkins and Kyler Fackrell, Clelin Ferrell will sneak onto the roster. Also, Darren Waller will be used more in off-line areas of the game, allowing for a ton of two-tight end sets. Especially because they will be offering a ton of help to whoever plays right tackle on the blocking side of things. Although the nine names listed will be in the initial 53, I expect movement here. A good combo for the Raiders here. Fullback Jakob Johnson was brought in by McDaniels and is also a lock to make the team. The semi-surprising release of veteran Kenyan Drake has solidified the outlook of the crowded backfield a bit more. Meanwhile, veterans Brandon Bolden and Ameer Abdullah will see some of the third down work. He was taken to the locker room on a cart for further evaluation and did not return. Raiders winners and losers in 23-6 preseason victory vs. Patriots (Raiders Wire)

The Raiders beat a Patriots team that played many of its starters as Las Vegas played its backups. Did any Raiders earn a roster spot?

The offensive line looks like it’s coming together, and the defense ended the preseason on a high note. But Koonce is paid to cause havoc in the backfield, and that’s what he did on this play. It was a surprise to see Johnson play in the final preseason game, but he made a statement. I didn’t want to put Leatherwood on the losers list again. He played well to start the preseason, but Bower has had more flashy moments on the edge lately. Koonce got back on track with his sack on the game’s initial series. The Raiders were unfazed and jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back. One of his plays was a two-for-one, as he got to Patriots QB Brian Hoyer for a strip-sack. But I still expect each player to make the cut, despite a challenge from WR D.J. On the game’s first series, the Patriots went three-and-out and lost nine yards. Las Vegas lived in the Patriots’ backfield and ended up forcing three turnovers. But that wasn’t the most encouraging part of the game for coach Josh McDaniels.

The Raiders also have to think about what quarterback they want on their practice squad, a consideration that might work against Garbers. 10 takeaways from the Patriots' preseason loss to the Raiders (Pats Pulpit)

The Patriots ended their preseason on a sour note, getting blown out by the Raiders' backups in Vegas.

Not sure how much the rookies can help this year, but knowing there is some young talent and athleticism in the pipeline is a good thing. Nixon should have no trouble getting back onto the practice squad, and I still think that there is a chance for him to make impact at some point in New England. Fumbling is something that the Patriots do not mess around with, and so his rushing and receiving may not be enough to get him onto the roster. He’s not a big guy, but this is the stuff that is all over his college tape, and I think it is something that we can see expect to see from him moving forward. While that might still be true, he continues to look impressive, and has shown good hands coming out of the backfield as well. The other issue is that guys like Trent Brown and Isaiah Wynn having a history of not being able to stay healthy. He went down with what appeared to be a serious ankle injury in the first quarter, however, and so that may not happen this year. Jack Jones pops (literally): Jack Jones has been pretty solid in coverage, and continued to show just that on Friday night, but it was his hitting that really popped off the screen. Ty Montgomery had been having a great camp, and looked poised to have a big role in the Patriots offense this season. There is a lot of optimism for the defense this year, but they’re going to have to play significantly better moving forward. He just doesn’t seem to be comfortable in this new-style offense, and, at a certain point, one might be begin to wonder whether that scheme switch was the right decision. Michael Onwenu looked to struggle again at guard, and there should be a real concern whether he can play in this type of offense.
