Green Bay Packers: 4 bold predictions for final preseason game vs ... (ClutchPoints)

The Green Bay Packers will wrap up their preseason against the Kansas City Chiefs, and it's time to make some bold predictions.

For the preseason finale, Love should have even more meaningful time on the field. Because of that, he’s more than capable of having 200 passing yards for the first time this year. One of the most effective players for Green Bay this preseason has been Romeo Doubs. So far in preseason play, the wide receiver has been a bright spot in a mostly reserve offense for the Packers. After some years spent mainly on the bench, Love should be ready to take over the backup role. Acting as the main quarterback, the numbers don’t do a justice to Love’s performance. For others, it’s their last shot to make to the 53-man roster for the regular season. Now it’s time to make some bold Packers predictions for this preseason finale against the Chiefs. If he performs well, he can jump ahead of veteran Sammy Watkins as one of the team’s main wide receivers. He was listed ahead of Krys Barnes, who started 23 games over the past two seasons. The Green Bay Packers are ready to wrap up their preseason Thursday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Other than starters Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage, the other spots are up for grabs.

Packers vs. Chiefs: What to watch for (Packers.com)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Packers wrap up their 2022 preseason against the Chiefs on Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium. Here's what to watch for.

Seeing him put together another solid outing that shows his growth as a young QB – and in the stadium where his first NFL start last season was a rocky one – would be a nice way to wrap up the preseason. Another singular position is long snapper, and [Jack Coco](/team/players-roster/jack-coco/) is the only one currently on the Packers' roster, but specialists like him are always competing against any other available players. The game against the Chiefs is everyone's last audition, a final opportunity to make the right impression as the Packers look to revamp their special teams after two sub-par seasons in that phase.

6 things to watch in Chiefs' preseason Week 3 game vs. Packers (Chiefs Wire)

The Kansas City Chiefs are home at Arrowhead Stadium to face the Green Bay Packers in the preseason finale. This is the final opportunity for players to ...

He said last week that there remains a lot of competition among the defensive players like linebackers and cornerbacks as it relates to special teams. “On top of that, you have to learn how to be in sync and in rhythm with the o-line on making sure you’re executing the proper footwork because your spacing has to equate to what they’re doing. “The thing he has to understand is that you got to rely on the o-line to work for you as well,” Bieniemy explained. Preseason Week 3 could be an opportunity for him to take some steps forward within the offense. Both players who can land on the 53-man roster and the practice squad. It was a rookie mistake and one that appeared to frustrate Patrick Mahomes, who saw the missed opportunity unfold. Historically speaking, when the final week of the preseason rolls around, the coordinators and Andy Reid begin working on game preparations for Week 1. With injuries to these players, it’s imperative that the Chiefs have some guys waiting in the wings who can step up and make big plays on offense. At offensive tackle, Geron Christian and Prince Tega Wanogho look to be locked in a battle for reserve tackle spots on the 53-man roster. With starting and depth jobs still up for grabs, the stakes have never been higher for the players on the roster. Fleet-Davis was able to impress with a touchdown run last week, but can Jones do anything at this point to earn himself a roster spot with the Chiefs? As of Tuesday, Chiefs HC Andy Reid hadn’t decided whether Patrick Mahomes or the starters on either side of the ball would play in the preseason finale.

Jordan Love, again, shows signs of mastering Packers' offense ... (packersnews.com)

This was his house of horrors. The stadium Jordan Love made his NFL debut in almost 10 months ago, a game the Green Bay Packers quarterback would like to ...

But it’s just the little things that are really going to help him level up, and a lot of it is footwork and little things like arm angles on run action, his keeper fakes, his hard-action fakes, his run solutions and RPO game, helping to marry up with the running game. I thought he showed a lot of resiliency, and I think that just shows the maturation process that he’s done over the last couple years.” Everyone around Love has spoken of his increased confidence, a young quarterback better able to handle the position. “I think early on there wasn’t really a lot open for him,” LaFleur said, “and he was under some duress. “I think he’s definitely become a master of the offense,” Rodgers said. But, yeah, just trying to take a shot right there, and forced the ball a little bit.” “I always look at the numbers at the end of it and go, ‘That doesn’t make sense.’ I thought he did a lot of good things. Unfortunately, the strong safety was able to come across Alize and make the pick.” “Looking back on it, maybe take the shorter throw right there and just try to keep moving the sticks. Love didn’t see the deep safety, overthrowing Mack for an interception that ended any chance of a score before halftime. On third-and-5 from the Chiefs’ 49-yard line, they still had a timeout and 19 seconds left when Love chucked a pass deep over the middle into double coverage. Love returned to meet the Kansas City Chiefs defense Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium in the finale of his third preseason.

5 takeaways from Packers' preseason loss to Chiefs (Packers.com)

QB Jordan Love, the running backs and young defenders all made things happen.

The coverage units allowed a 45-yard kickoff return, plus two punt returns of at least 20 yards. That showed a lot of maturity from him." We'll see (on the film) how they held up in pass pro." Abernathy added a tackle on special teams. "Early on there wasn't really a lot open for him and he was under some duress," LaFleur said. Love said he wishes he'd thrown the ball to Mack's back-shoulder or taken a shorter throw to keep moving the chains. "Both those guys did a nice job. "We had some timeouts right there, so that's a situation I can learn from," Love said. Unfortunately, he also muffed a kickoff return. [Micah Abernathy](/team/players-roster/micah-abernathy/) and defensive lineman [Jack Heflin](/team/players-roster/jack-heflin/) tied with Walker for the team lead in tackles with five, with Heflin getting a tackle for loss on fourth down and forcing a fumble late in the game. "Those drives, we were putting it all together, hitting plays, converting third downs and what not," Love said. The seven completions went to six different pass-catchers.

Packers fall to Chiefs 17-10 in preseason finale, reveal little about ... (Acme Packing Company)

Trying to figure out which players on the bubble are making the Packers' roster? If you watched Thursday's game, it probably didn't help you much.

Kiondre Thomas, fighting with Rico Gafford for a roster spot at cornerback, failed to pick up Daurice Fountain coming around the formation in motion, and the Chiefs receiver picked up 29 yards on a catch up the sideline, taking the ball down to the two-yard line. Jordan Love started to heat up on the ensuing drive, finding Samari Toure and Amari Rodgers for a handful of first downs and big plays to drive the ball all the way down the field into the red zone. The Chiefs drove down the field and then found tight end Matt Bushman wide open down the field with busted coverage for a 54-yard touchdown, taking a 10-7 lead. Goodson capped off the drive with a terrific run, spinning off a tackle attempt and fighting into the end zone for a 24-yard touchdown to give the Packers a 7-3 lead. However, Patrick Taylor played only a handful of snaps in the game as a whole, spending most of the contest on the sidelines with the Packers’ veterans and starters. However, he appeared to be outkicking his coverage early — either by design or by accident — as those boots went for a net average of just 36.7 yards thanks to a whopping 118 yards of returns for the Chiefs.

Packers special teams look lost in finale tuneup before season ... (packersnews.com)

The Green Bay Packers special teams gave up several long returns during a 17-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

After missing deep down the sideline to Juwaan Winfree on second down, he went for it all on third down and was picked off trying to hit tight end Alize Mack down the middle. • LaFleur said that with final cuts not due until Tuesday at 3 p.m., he would have the team practice Sunday and Monday. He practiced all three days, including twice in pads, and that might have been all the risk LaFleur wanted to take. Walker is going to be a starter opposite De’Vondre Campbell in the season opener against Minnesota and a lot will be expected of him. It’s possible Watson’s absence allowed Toure’ to guarantee himself a spot on the 53-man roster. His absence allowed fellow rookie Samori Toure’ to get the bulk of the playing time at wide receiver and he made excellent use of it, catching six passes for 83 yards. He sat out the Saints game and then began taking part in team drills on Sunday. “I’m comfortable but not as much as I want to be,” he said. He made three solo tackles and had two assists, none more impressive than on Kansas City’s first possession when on third and 9, he exploded into the flat and dropped running back Jerick McKinnon well short of the first down after a catch in the flat. “Compared to my first two games, I could tell I was just in a different type of flow,” Walker said. The return game was equally pathetic with a long kickoff return of 19 yards. On the next series, he was involved in three tackles, including one in which he closed on dangerous receiver Mecole Hardman and held him to a 5-yard catch.

With De’Vondre Campbell and Quay Walker, Krys Barnes’ role is going to be reduced but he will provide a steady presence off the bench at what has become a position of strength for the Packers. As a pass-catcher, he caught all four passes for 39 yards, including a contested one over the middle, something he has struggled with this preseason. Matt LaFleur made sure to get the ball in Amari Rodgers’ hands in a variety of ways as he filled that gadget role in this offense, lining up all over the formation. But he stepped in at right tackle with the backup offensive line and didn’t give up a single pressure in 33 pass blocking snaps. However, Goodson did drop a kickoff attempt and also struggled to hold up in pass protection–two factors that will determine the third running back role. But more importantly, this was the final opportunity for several players to earn a roster spot.

Five Positive Performances From Packers' Loss to Chiefs (Sports Illustrated)

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur wanted to get Jordan Love a lot of work this preseason. Mission accomplished. As a rookie in 2020, ...

The Packers used a seventh-round pick on Tariq Carpenter based on his elite combination of size and athleticism. That third-down tackle on a swing pass to veteran running back Jerick McKinnon is exactly what the Packers envisioned. A seventh-round pick in 2019, he has never played in a regular-season game and served stints on five practice squads. He has raised his level of play to meet the level of competition. He’s got a good feel for pass rush and never quits on a play. When he was on the practice field, he had to take a lot of hard coaching from offensive line coach Luke Butkus. One of those incompletions came on fourth down in the waning moments and sure looked like pass interference. He made one catch in traffic and broke a couple tackles, too. As LaFleur likes to say, a quarterback gets too much credit in victory and too much blame in defeat. In 2021, a shoulder injury sidelined him for one game and had him limited for another. Love forced a ball into coverage during the two-minute drill interception. As a rookie in 2020, COVID canceled the preseason.

Here's our projected 53-man roster for the Green Bay Packers, who ... (packersnews.com)

The Packers have until Tuesday to trim from 79 to 53 players and, while the bubble is small this year, there are several difficult choices to make.

De’Vondre Campbell and Quay Walker make a formidable duo on the second level, something the Packers haven’t had in seemingly forever. The Packers knew they needed to find some depth behind their top three corners. Caleb Jones is one of the last players to make the cut, meaning he’s one of the firmest on the bubble. Each played their way to be at least on the bubble. None of the three have much experience on special teams. Like running back, the Packers are stout at the top of their defensive line depth chart. Elgton Jenkins might be a guard in name only to start the season, with right tackle seeming like the most likely position at least until David Bakhtiari returns to the blindside. The Packers could be at least tempted to keep seven defensive lineman with how impressive Chris Slayton was firing off the line of scrimmage this preseason. There isn’t a trickier position to figure out on the roster. For now, the Packers feel their backup position is the strongest it’s been in a long time after a resurgent preseason for Love. The potential to play Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon on the field together more this fall puts a premium on backfield depth. With the top of their depth charts set on both sides of the ball, there are few jobs truly up for grabs.

Packers fall to Chiefs in preseason finale, 17-10 (Packers.com)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Packers wrapped up their 2022 preseason with a 17-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night.

A 7-yard pass to Cannella set up fourth-and-3 at the Kansas City 19. The first quarter came to an end with a 13-yard pass to Doubs to the Kansas City 36. Green Bay's defense forced another punt, with Danny Etling replacing Love under center at the end of the quarter. With good protection on third-and-10, Love hit Rodgers across the middle for 15 yards to move into Kansas City territory. Ramiz Ahmed made a 23-yard field goal to tie the game at 10 with 1:48 remaining. Toure caught another pass between the hashes, this time for 23 yards, to set up first-and-goal from the Kansas City 1. Tyler Goodson picked up 13 yards on a Love pass on the next play. Kansas City was forced to punt two plays later. A 29-yard pass to Daurice Fountain keyed Kansas City's opening five-play, 54-yard scoring drive. RB Tyler Goodson had a 24-yard touchdown run for the Packers and finished with 28 yards total on seven carries. The 11-play, 83-yard drive lasted 5:23. Rodgers is trying to find his niche in the offense, which is going through an overhaul with the departure of No. Rodgers had four catches for 39 yards with a long of 15, and he also ran the ball three times for 17 yards, including an 11-yard gain.

Chiefs vs. Packers: 5 winners and 3 losers from Kansas City's victory (Arrowhead Pride)

Kansas City gets a win in its final 2022 preseason games. Let's tally up the winners and losers.

While he has all of the physical tools, it appears that it might take a while for him to put it all together. In the preseason, Carter has been working with the second and third teams, playing late in the games. He also fumbled, but was at least able to recover the ball. His 54-yard catch and run was one of the most explosive plays of the entire preseason. He’s not had the strongest preseason, looking a step slower than the other linebackers on the field. But in the second drive against the Packers, Jones took the first handoff and broke off a punishing eight-yard run. This time, it was Bushman who took advantage of each of his three targets to amass 73 yards, leading the team. But in two preseason games, Jones just hadn’t found any success with the Chiefs. If they think he’ll clear waivers, the Chiefs will be happy to sign him to the practice squad, Otherwise, they might just have to carry a third passer on Tuesday’s initial 53-man roster. Then most of the key starters on offense got the night off — while backups found some success in their final showcase before roster decisions are decided and many bags are packed. Shane Buechele: There isn’t a backup quarterback competition in Kansas City — but if there were, Buechele’s performance on Thursday certainly would have made it interesting. It’s just a simple way to grade their performance in a single game.

Aaron Rodgers: Jordan Love Has Become a 'Master' of Packers ... (Sports Illustrated)

The four-time NFL MVP says his backup has made strides in understanding the team's offensive system this offseason.

While he will not be the Packers’ starter when the season begins, Love has taken noticeable strides. I thought he showed a lot of resiliency, and I think that just shows the maturation process that he’s done over the last couple years.” But even with the miscue on his behalf, Love did not let it rattle him, something Packers coach Matt LaFleur liked about the performance of his backup quarterback. However, Love made the best of his last starting opportunity before falling back into the shadows of the Rodgers show in Green Bay. But even in that, Rodgers believes Love has a much better understanding of the Packers offensive system. 11 against the Vikings.

Tracking the Green Bay Packers' key snaps through the preseason (Acme Packing Company)

It's time to wrap up the preseason and answer the 10 biggest questions we had about the Packers roster going into the Chiefs game.

Shawn Davis and Micah Abernathy got the starts for the team this week at safety, with Abernathy recording 25 of his 33 key snaps in the preseason with the defense in Week 3. Rico Gafford, who was signed by the team to be a special teams ace, saw just eight snaps in the first half against the Chiefs after recording 44 snaps in the first halves of the first two games of the preseason. The team may expose Abernathy to waivers, though, and roster Leavitt on the first day of cutdowns so that Leavitt can be placed on injured reserve with a designated to return note. Kicker Mason Crosby wasn’t healthy enough to play in the preseason, but head coach Matt LaFleur stated late this week that Crosby’s recovery from his knee injury is about where it was expected to be six weeks after whatever injury he had. In his absence, Kobe Jones (14), Jonathan Garvin (13), La’Darius Hamilton (13) and Kingsley Enagabre (10) split snaps relatively equally in the first half against the Chiefs. In the last two weeks, Rodgers has been featured as a running back and a motion man, as the team attempts to expand his offensive role beyond “Randall Cobb’s backup.” Rodgers even saw nine reps as an outside receiver this week, compared to just seven in the two weeks prior which mostly came on one two-minute drill once Winfree and Doubs were already pulled out of preseason action in Week 1. The race for the sixth defensive line spot, if the Packers keep a sixth defensive lineman, comes down to Chris Slayton and Heflin, who have both registered 26 key snaps over the last two weeks. [When Kylin Hill returns off of the physically unable to perform list](https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/2022/8/23/23318096/packers-roster-cuts-green-bay-gets-to-80-with-moves-on-vernon-scott-kylin-hill), Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon and Hill should be ahead of Goodson in the pecking order in that exact situation. The first half has been a pretty significant line in the sand for the team this preseason, as we’ve seen significant personnel changes and play-callers switching coming out of the half. Unlike in Week 1, though, Taylor did not come in for short-yardage and pass-blocking downs but was instead given just one drive in the first half, a drive that lasted north of seven minutes. As a reminder, most of the Packers’ starters were held out of the preseason, with the exceptions of the offensive line and rookie inside linebacker Quay Walker. For example, receiver Juwann Winfree had 21 key snaps at outside receiver in Week 3 of the preseason.

Five Disappointing Performances From Packers' Loss to Chiefs (Sports Illustrated)

The Green Bay Packers lost 17-10 at the Kansas City Chiefs in Thursday night's preseason finale. Devonte Wyatt and the special teams were among the poor ...

In 32 snaps against the Chiefs, Kingsley Enagbare had two tackles and two pressures. Knowing the system and knowing how to work around the system or not even just working around the system, just work in the system and just make plays. In 28 snaps against the Chiefs, La’Darius Hamilton had two tackles and zero pressures. One of those incompletions came on fourth down in the waning moments and sure looked like pass interference. In 15 snaps against the Chiefs, he had two tackles and zero pressures. There’s a chance seven of those blockers won’t be on the 53. Given the mediocre play of Newman and Jake Hanson, that has to be a disappointment. He hasn’t been good enough in practice and he hasn’t been good enough in games. His name shows up in the NFL’s official gamebook just once: as a starter. Meanwhile, the team has talked up Hanson, a sixth-round pick in 2020 who has played six regular-season snaps on offense. Rashan Gary was nothing special as a rookie and now he’s one of the best pass rushers in the NFL. In an instant-gratification world, the draft isn’t as much about today as it is about a thousand tomorrows.

5 Numbers That Tell the Story Of the Packers-Chiefs Preseason Game (Zone Coverage)

The Green Bay Packers wrapped up their preseason in Arrowhead against the Kansas City Chiefs, losing 17-10. While many fans are still left hungry to see.

[Yosuah Nijman](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/N/NijmYo01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-), [Caleb Jones](https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/caleb-jones-2.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-), and [Rasheed Walker](https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/rasheed-walker-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) each had a great game against the Chiefs and showed they can step in when needed. If the Packers want to contend, they absolutely must improve their special teams performance. While he doesn’t provide the same special teams prowess, the front office could risk him heading to another team for nothing. Heflin won a lot of fans on Thursday and likely found himself a spot on the team. He was one of the defensive standouts, and his ability to impact the run game is something the Packers will need in the regular season. [Samori Toure](https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/samori-toure-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) impressed on Thursday, catching all six of his targets for 83 yards. The depth of the offensive line could prove important if [Elgton Jenkins](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/J/JenkEl00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) and [David Bakhtiari](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BakhDa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) find themselves unable to play in Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings. [Tyler Goodson](https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/tyler-goodson-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) also made his case to be on the 53-man roster, tallying 54 yards from scrimmage on 12 touches. He also added 28 rushing yards and a touchdown for good measure. They could also get rid of one of their veteran wideouts to make space for the cheaper Toure, whose ceiling remains unknown. While almost all of the emphasis has been placed on rookie wide receivers [Romeo Doubs](https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/romeo-doubs-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) and Christian Watson, it is good to see Toure get in on the action. [Zach Tom](https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/zach-tom-1.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-), who continues to build on his early success.
