So now that the proverbial table is set for actors who’ve played superheroes many years earlier to reprise their roles, Val Kilmer will at least entertain the possibility of a second outing as Batman. Having risen to Hollywood stardom through movies like Real Genius, Top Gun, Willow and Tombstone, Val Kilmer scored a particularly notable cinematic honor in the mid-1990s: being cast as Batman.

However, regardless of fan theories, audiences can enjoy Top Gun: Maverick for what it is: a massive Hollywood blockbuster that treated its characters and story with immense care. Tom Cruise found himself as one of the movie's heroes and one of the heroes of modern cinema as the sequel, 36 years in the making, has pulled in $1.4 billion at the global box office. One of these theories would change the entire outlook of the movie, offering a more morbid perspective on the mega-hit sequel. During the opening Darkstar sequence, Maverick is able to eclipse Mach 10 speed, traveling in his hypersonic plane.

Top Gun: Maverick has seemingly already been crowned highest grossing movie of the year, and part of that was down to Val Kilmer's emotional return.

So that was one scene I wanted him to see, and obviously, we were all a little nervous showing it to him just because we really wanted him to like it. As for the Top Gun: Maverick sequel, Powell is in the dark like everyone else but is hoping it won’t take 36 years to make another movie in the series. Marvel has already set the stage for their arrival, with [Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels](https://movieweb.com/x-men-team-up-movie-mcu-nia-dacosta/) expected to fully integrate them into the MCU. Glen Powell would be a great fit for Cyclops, and judging by the online response to his supposed casting, fans seem to be on board as well. Since Fox’s X-Men universe is seemingly dead and the rights to the iconic superhero team lie with Marvel Studios, it’s only a matter of time before we get a new Cyclops, Wolverine, Professor X, and [other mutants in the MCU](https://movieweb.com/ms-marvel-directors-says-only-kevin-feige-knows-mcu-mutant-master-plan/). Powell’s Cyclops casting, like [several other rumors preceding the event](https://movieweb.com/henry-cavill-rumored-make-surprise-comic-con-appearance-talk-superman/), turned out to be false as well when he didn’t make an appearance at SDCC as reported.

You can finally watch Top Gun: Maverick at home as a $20 digital purchase, but there's no hint as to when you can stream it for $5 (or even free).

And even though it has two different tiers, it has never "paywalled" a movie behind the higher-priced membership level. Paramount Plus requires a paid subscription, so nothing on the service is free -- unless you watch it while you're signed up on a free trial. How much longer that "longer period of time" will be is anyone's guess, for now. For past live-action movies, Paramount has tended to give them at least 45 days exclusively in theaters before making them available to stream on Paramount Plus. The movie is distributed by Paramount Pictures, which is owned by the same parent company as Paramount Plus. But Top Gun: Maverick still isn't streaming, even as other ways to watch it at home are coming into land.

The air vent circle on the Top Gun: Maverick Xbox Series S features a design like the one on Tom Cruise's helmet in the film above what appears to be a visor reflecting the golden evening sun that adorned many of the movie posters. The Top Gun: Maverick Xbox Series S comes packed with an incredible controller that has the Top Gun logo on it in addition to many lights and dials that would look familiar inside the cockpit of a Super Hornet fighter jet like the one used in the movie.
