Kevin Durant staying in Brooklyn, RIP player empowerment era (Deadspin)

KD, Nets agree to 'move forward' with partnership after trade suitors offer chewed Bubble Yum, spare change, and pocket lint.

I know NBA Twitter wanted a brain-melting trade because that’s the only pure fix, but it’ll have to settle for the ensuing drama that leaks from that locker room. Speaking of which, I’d also like to note that self-proclaimed player-GM Irving was left out of the meeting between the team and the Boardroom. Whatever figment of his imagination he scapegoats for whatever it is he’s constantly upset about, Kyrie has experienced more than enough real slights this offseason to knock his chakras off kilter. And whatever Beverly said, which I’m still trying to figure out, Durant’s first tweet since the “story” broke was to respond with #BLAMEKD. Durant’s social media-induced persecution complex is certainly a self-fulfilling prophecy — the man could find a hater at a support group — and I’m sure there’s someone out there blaming him for something. KD doesn’t seem like the kind of player who would willingly dog it to regain leverage, or not hoop when he’s healthy.

The Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday released a statement that team leaders met and settled things with star Kevin Durant.

Charania added that the Suns had pursued “creative” trade proposals that included other teams. That point became moot in mid-July when Ayton signed an offer sheet with the Indiana Pacers for a max contract that was quickly matched by Phoenix, making Ayton untradeable until this coming January. “We are focusing on basketball, with one collective goal in mind: build a lasting franchise to bring a championship to Brooklyn.”

Milwaukee Bucks: what would a Kevin Durant trade package look like? (Behind The Bucks Pass)

The Milwaukee Bucks were reportedly among teams that checked in on the price tag of Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant, we offer a trade package.

Ultimately, the Milwaukee Bucks have five second round picks in the next three years, which they are unlikely to hold on to. If this offer isn’t enough, the Milwaukee Bucks could include recently drafted forward MarJon Beauchamp and the deal would still be successful, but as it stands I believe this to be a fair trade. While the Milwaukee Bucks were likely just gauging the price based on the fact that they weren’t reported to make an offer, [we as fans are still left wondering](https://behindthebuckpass.com/2022/08/22/reactions-milwaukee-bucks-showing-interest-kevin-durant/), “what would the Milwaukee Bucks have to trade to Brooklyn to land Kevin Durant?”

Brooklyn Nets, Kevin Durant meet, agree to 'move forward' together ... (ESPN)

The end of Kevin Durant's trade demand comes after he met with members of the Nets' brain trust in Los Angeles.

Simmons underwent a microdiscectomy procedure in May to address pain located in a herniated disk in his lower back, but he is expected to be healthy for training camp. Irving, who played in 29 games last season after choosing to not get the COVID-19 vaccine, created a list of teams he would have liked the Nets to consider working with on a sign-and-trade deal. During that meeting, Durant wanted Tsai to choose between him and the brain trust of Nash and Marks.

Kevin Durant trade updates, rumors, speculation: NBA title odds shift ... (AZCentral.com)

NBA championship odds were updated in the wake of Tuesday's news that Kevin Durant was going to staying with the Brooklyn Nets.

Over a massive sample size since 2020, Phoenix has consistently proven they’re one of the league’s best without another superstar being thrown into the mix." [Kevin Durant trade to Suns? According to these odds, the Celtics have a 46.5% implied chance to land Durant, while the Suns are at 28.6%. More often than not these stars have been traded to their desired team, despite those teams seemingly not having the best trade packages. The Suns are now considered to be behind the Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat in their efforts to trade for Durant." [Kevin Durant trade to Phoenix Suns? Rexwell Villas writes: "Kevin Durant is an asset still worth targeting for the Suns, whose championship window remains very much open. A trade to a conference rival would be a major blow to the Suns, particularly given they’re still considered a top two or three team in the West. Obviously the best case for Phoenix is to acquire him, particularly if they can put Durant next to Chris Paul, Devin Booker and even potentially Deandre Ayton. But the Suns have yet to find a suitable deal — and that is largely why they appear to be behind Boston, Toronto and Miami in the Durant sweepstakes." While he doesn’t necessarily fit the bill of what Jones typically likes in a point guard, he can run an offense so I wouldn't entirely rule it out. KD and the Nets are running it back after the superstar rescinded his trade demand. What does it mean for Brooklyn, Kyrie and the East race?

Marks: On paper, the Nets should be in the top three in the East. If I had to bet today, I would guess "fact" only because of the Durant news, but everything can change in an instant. The big question is whether the Nets reward Irving with a four-year, $209 million extension before the season ends. A healthy mix of Irving, Durant and Simmons should be worth a few more wins, certainly enough to challenge for home-court advantage in the playoffs. The Nets gave a huge jolt to a normally quiet time in the sports calendar. Could the Nets win the East? Friedell: Assuming health for their key players -- and most importantly, a drama-free run in the regular season, I think the Nets sit in third right now. Tim Bontemps: This is a recognition of the reality of the situation. I'm sure he didn't anticipate the Nets not getting the kind of offers necessary to get a deal done. [Kevin Durant](https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/3202/kevin-durant) and the [Brooklyn Nets](/nba/team/_/name/bkn/brooklyn-nets) are running it back. Kevin Durant Rescinding Trade is Good For Warriors (Sports Illustrated)

If Durant had found himself on the Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, or even the Memphis Grizzlies, it would have changed the power dynamic in the NBA.

The Warriors are in a very healthy spot to find themselves as a championship favorite again as they enter the 2022-23 NBA season. However, even if Mitchell were to join the New York Knicks, it wouldn't put the Golden State Warriors in a compromising position. With the way things currently stand, the Golden State Warriors should be the favorites to win the NBA Championship this season, with the Boston Celtics being the next closest team.

Kevin Durant, Nets agree to 'move forward' together (NBA.com)

The Nets say Kevin Durant and the team have 'one collective goal in mind' of bringing an NBA title to Brooklyn.

The Nets believed they had built one in the 2020-21 season after acquiring James Harden to play with Durant and Irving. Harden then asked to be traded and was swapped in the deal for Simmons in February. It would have been hard for Durant to find many better situations, and the Nets likely had little interest in trying to land him one. In addition, the Nets added 3-and-D swingman Royce O’Neale in a trade with the Utah Jazz. But with Durant, the Nets can still be one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. A championship favorite before last season began, the Nets barely made the playoffs and then were bounced by Boston in four games in the first round.

Durant's Move to Stay With Nets Makes His Motivations All the More ... (Sports Illustrated)

From a trade request to an ultimatum now to an apparent reunion, it's difficult to decipher what the Brooklyn superstar is trying to achieve.

[even had a restaurant in town named after him](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/17141205/kevin-durant-okc-based-restaurant-shuts-name-change) as a result of all the acclaim he brought the area. And just in case he and Irving wanted to be able to put their stamp on the Brooklyn organization, well, that seemed fine by the Nets, too. And in a way, who could really blame opposing clubs when none of us are totally sure what’s motivating Durant most at this point? Can he support a coach and general manager if he feels more compelled to back a teammate that isn’t fully committed? (Minnesota’s trade for Rudy Gobert trade suggested as much.) Secondly, it signals that NBA clubs, too, can’t get a clear reading on what matters most to Durant. In a way, joining the Nets could have been seen as the best of both worlds. In building a contender with Brooklyn, Durant wouldn’t be seen as a mere bandwagon-jumper the way he was by many with Golden State. Durant left that all behind in jaw-dropping fashion when he opted to join the Warriors—the club that had just gone 73–9 and come back from a 3–1 conference finals hole to beat KD and the Thunder—in free agency back in 2016. Is it to play with one of his closest friends, and have Irving’s back, regardless of how costly his choices were? Durant then doubled down earlier this month, reportedly issuing an ultimatum to Nets owner Joe Tsai to either move forward with him—and ditch coach Steve Nash and general manager Sean Marks—or that he’d continue to push for a trade out of town. But who knows how this team will jell, or what drama will ultimately come.) Or is it some combination of the three? [What is it, exactly, that Durant wants?](https://www.espn.com/nba/playoffs/2012/story/_/page/Evolution-120613/nba-finals-oklahoma-city-thunder-kevin-durant-motivation) Is it to have things completely on his terms?
