2022 Florida Primary Election Results (PBS NewsHour)

WASHINGTON (AP) — Tuesday's primary elections feature two top Florida Democrats squaring off for the chance to face Republican Gov.

Fried, the only statewide-elected Democrat, has sought to portray Crist as a Democrat in name only. Jones is facing Peggy Schiller, a local Democratic Party activist. Crist has dismissed Fried’s criticisms as last-ditch efforts to counter his robust fundraising and high-profile endorsements. Charlie Crist, who was once governor himself as a Republican, are vying for the Democratic nomination to compete against DeSantis in November. Gaetz has not been charged and denies wrongdoing. Webster’s district includes The Villages, the central Florida retirement community and Republican stronghold that has been a huge presence in GOP politics in the state for decades. Another closely watched race in New York is the Republican primary in a safe red district upstate, which puts the controversial, bombastic businessman Carl Paladino against state GOP chair Nick Langworthy. She’s favored in the fall in the newly red district. The district became a bit bluer in the redistricting process, with a crowded field that includes Francis Conole, who finished in second in the Democratic primary in the area in 2020, has a narrow lead in a four-way race. He was initially elected as a Republican in 2006, and was the Democratic nominee for governor in 2014 before losing to now-Sen. New York also features a slew of potentially competitive House seats in November, after the state Supreme Court there threw out a Democratic gerrymander drawn by the state legislature. Another New York district to watch is the 22nd, which is open after GOP Rep. Mullin is the heavy favorite in the fall. Jones is locked in a tight primary for the open 10th District that includes former federal prosecutor Dan Goldman; state Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou; former Rep. New Yorkers are also nominating candidates in up to a half-dozen November battleground seats, while Republicans are deciding primaries in a slew of open, safe House seats that will remake the Florida congressional delegation. Even though the winner will only represent the district for a few months, the short-term result could have broader implications: Both parties competed heavily in the race. With over 95 percent of the expected vote counted, Ryan beat Republican Marc Molinaro in a swing district that President Joe Biden won by fewer than 2 points in 2020.

Four takeaways from the New York and Florida primaries (The Washington Post)

1. The Trump caucus will probably be strong in Congress next year. Republican Laurel Lee, right, who won her primary race in Florida, and her husband ...

She is leaning heavily on the fact that she’s a former police chief in Orlando and her by-the-bootstraps upbringing as the daughter of a maid and janitor. Crist was actually already governor of Florida as a Republican in 2007; he switched parties and is now a member of Congress. Democrats haven’t held a Senate seat in Florida in four years; they haven’t held the governor’s mansion there in 24 years. The epitome of Democrats’ redistricting problem is in Manhattan, where two Democratic committee chairs in Congress and huge names in New York politics had to face off for one newly redrawn district — Reps. But a court stepped in and redrew the maps to be more fair, and Democrats may gain just one congressional seat, or none at all. In the end, voters rather easily decided to choose Nadler — and Maloney lost her job because Democrats’ gerrymandering She oversaw the state’s successful election in 2020 — and subsequent GOP efforts to make voting harder, some elements of which got temporarily knocked down by a federal judge who accused Lee and statewide Republicans of disenfranchising Black voters in particular. She’s an Air Force veteran who in a 2020 campaign accused a rival of trying to kill her. Stephanie Murphy (D-Fla.), a member of the congressional committee investigating the Jan. Thanks to Florida Republicans’ aggressive redistricting, the GOP is expected to gain several seats in Congress in this state alone. Republicans in Florida are also expecting to take a seat from Democrats outside St. The stark impact of redistricting might be clearer nowhere more than in the Orlando suburbs.

Takeaways from Tuesday's primaries in Florida, New York and ... (CNN)

Some of the final pieces of the midterm puzzle came into focus as Tuesday primaries in New York, Florida and Oklahoma locked in key parts of the November ...

Mullin advanced to the runoff after leading the first round with 44% of the vote, and that was before an endorsement from former President Donald Trump. Maloney, a former White House and campaign aide to former President Bill Clinton, who endorsed him, also got a boost from his colleagues on Capitol Hill in the form of Democrats' Inflation Reduction Act. A new PAC, called Our Hudson, also chipped in to undermine Biaggi, who Both in the race and outside of it, influential progressives and aligned groups who might have been able to broker a consolidation were largely quiet on the question. -- and broad name recognition from his role as the party's lead counsel in former President Donald Trump's first impeachment. But the 38-year-old, who unsuccessfully challenged Maloney in the last two cycles in a different district, again fell short. But Democrats got a morale boost recently: The National Republican Senatorial Committee came in with an ad campaign for Rubio while Demings was widely outspending the Republican. , who was vying to become the state's first female governor. Molinaro, who has deep ties to and a long political career in the district, received significant backing from the National Republican Congressional Committee, which put more than $1 million into the race. "How can we be a free country if the government tries to control women's bodies?" The current district, though, has long been a bellwether of politics beyond its upstate borders. But it was a special election in Upstate New York that provided clearest message yet: The anger over the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v.
