Rockhold most likely needs a finish to win and to do that, he probably needs a takedown. Rockhold lands a body kick and Costa swings a big shot. Cost has Rockhold against the fence and unloads and Rockhold looks wary but Costa grabs a clinch and takes Rockhold down. Head kick from Costa lands but Rockhold lands a good right hand of his own. And a left hook to the body. Costa goes for a takedown but Rockhold defends and they’re at space and Rockhold lands another big body kick. Rockhold shoots on a double but Costa might have hurt him with a punch and he’s sprawling.

Costa and Rockhold were initially supposed to fight at UFC 277 but the fight was rescheduled to UFC 278. Costa landed a shot to the body. Costa was able to sprawl and defend the takedown. Rockhold landed a twisting kick to the body and a left hook. Rockhold landed more but Costa had more power. Costa backed up Rockhold and rocked him with a big shot and landed the takedown. Costa landed a pair of shots but Rockhold countered with a right hook. Costa landed a powerful body kick. Following a body kick, Rockhold landed a takedown. Costa landed a body kick but Rockhold fired back with two left hands. Rockhold went for a takedown but Costa defended it and landed a powerful shot that appeared to hurt Rockhold. Rockhold exploded out the back door and returned to his feet.
