Asked about switching Jenkins to right guard, offensive line coach Chris Morgan said: "It's a little bit of an adjustment, but we wouldn't ask him to do anything he couldn't handle. Like Gordon, the rookie receiver returned to practice Monday after sitting out the preseason opener with an injury. Gordon, who returned to practice Monday, has displayed playmaking ability and ball skills in practice since being chosen by the Bears in the second round of this year's draft. Last year he was named SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Year after averaging 27.3 yards with one TD on 23 kickoff returns and 15.1 yards on 18 punt returns. In six college seasons at USC (2016-19) and Tennessee (2020-21), he averaged 24.4 yards with two touchdowns on 122 kickoff returns and 15.1 yards on 18 punt returns. He will likely play the majority of the snaps at linebacker once again against the Seahawks, providing yet another prime opportunity to stand out and solidify his case for a spot on the final roster. The linebacker out of Wisconsin led the team in tackles and nabbed an interception to begin the comeback rally in the second half against the Chiefs. He’s starting at right tackle in place of Riley Reiff, who likely won’t suit up in Seattle, and it’s a golden opportunity to take the starting position and run with it. It’s a good opportunity for him to improve on an uneven performance against the Chiefs. The former second-round pick has moved to guard and will get a chance to show whether or not he can acclimate to the interior of the offensive line against the Seahawks. The Bears coaching staff may want to give him some extended reps and it will be a chance to see his connection with quarterback Justin Fields.

That the NFL adds an extra week of a buffer between the end of preseason and start of the regular season is a nice touch. But as things stand, a Bears team with 50+ new players at the start of a rebuild could use as many preseason reps for evaluation as it can get. The first thing to stand out to me when the NFL schedule release dropped was the preseason opening with a Matt Nagy reunion party. But that a coach feels he needs to take it another step because of the short week constitutes a failure on the NFL’s part.

Or, maybe the Jets try and trade him to a team like the Bears, who are desperate at the position. For a late-round conditional pick, Mims would be well-worth the gamble. He very well could be a casualty of veteran cuts later this month. The Bears already tried trading for Harry, before his injury, and the deal looked great on paper. New York paid up for Corey Davis, too, and also re-signed Braxton Berrios. However, through two seasons, Mims has caught just 31 passes for 490 yards and zero touchdowns.

Thursday night football turned into a Thursday night beatdown this week, as the Chicago Bears won their second preseason game of the exhibition season 27-11 ...

The Seahawks will also hit the road to take on the Dallas Cowboys, closing out the exhibition season next Friday. The Seahawks committed five offensive penalties in the first half. Many don't see Chicago as having one of the elite wide receiving corps in the NFL, but keep an eye on the rookie out of Tennessee. This is not what you want to see in the preseason. A couple of things to note from that first drive: The Bears went play-action on almost every passing play. On one drive in the first half, the Seahawks converted a fourth-and-2 at the Bears' 34-yard line to get to the 22-yard line, but an illegal use of hands penalty nullified the play and knocked Seattle out of field goal range. But there was good news following the game, per Pete Carroll, who said X-rays were negative and Lewis suffered an ankle sprain. Neither were targeted, however, and the Seahawks went three-and-out. The very next drive, Jason Myers missed a 47-yard field goal attempt after the Seahawks had a first-and-10 from the Bears' 27-yard line just a few plays earlier. Smith missed on a couple of deep passes and also tripped over his own running back off of play-action for a big loss. Smith played the entire first half, completing 10 of 18 passes for 112 yards, and registered what was an up-and-down performance. A 14-0 second-quarter run extended the Bears' lead to 17 by halftime, and the deficit was too much for Seattle's reserves to overcome.
