2023 Dodge Hornet Will Offer a GLH Performance Package (Car and Driver)

With a lowered suspension, an upgraded exhaust, and stripes, the 'Goes Like Hell' package will be available through Dodge's Direct Connection parts program.

This name, which stands for "Goes Like Hell," is an homage to the [Omni GLH hot hatchback](https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a35288282/tested-1986-dodge-omni-shelby-glhs/) from the 1980s. We'd guess there will be an all-in price for the GLH package if you want everything. The Dodge Hornet Wants to be the Hot Hatch of Small Crossovers (Jalopnik)

A 265 HP turbo four and electronic limited slip differential come standard under $30K, and the PHEV version is even spicier.

[Kona N](https://jalopnik.com/2022-hyundai-kona-n-great-things-come-in-small-n-pac-1847657959) are the modern-day hot hatches. As with the Charger and Challenger, Dodge is pushing factory-backed upgrades hard with the Hornet. There aren’t very many players in the segment yet though, at least on our side of the pond where we miss out on the [Ford Puma ST](https://jalopnik.com/ford-ceo-wishes-we-got-the-puma-st-forgets-job-title-1846288005) and Cupra Formentor. Both have all-wheel drive standard, and the base powertrain in the GT is a turbocharged, two-liter four-cylinder producing 265 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque mated to a nine-speed transmission — segment-leading numbers, Dodge is quick to highlight. The R/T can also travel on battery alone for about 30 miles. Dodge unveiled the Hornet as part of its Speed Week celebrations in Michigan on Tuesday night.

Dodge starts electrified journey with compact, hybrid Hornet SUV ... (USA TODAY)

The 2023 Dodge Hornet will offer gas and plug-in electric hybrid options as the brand moves toward electrification.

Orders for the Hornet GT will be taken beginning Wednesday for arrival at dealerships later this year. Dodge has also shown a GLH (Goes-Like-Hell) Concept to demonstrate what the brand’s Direct Connection performance parts can do. That doesn’t mean Dodge won’t continue to offer high-performance vehicles, but I don’t think its role within Stellantis will allow for such a narrow product focus." “With prices starting around $30,000, the Hornet should capture drivers who want something a little sportier than a Chevrolet Equinox or Ford Escape but cannot afford the entry-luxury models from BMW and Audi.” Driver attention assist, to detect fatigue, and intelligent adaptive cruise control are a couple of the available advanced driver assistance safety features. Pricing hasn’t either, although the GT is supposed to start at under $30,000. The R/T also has a nifty feature called PowerShot that can add an extra 25 horsepower for 15 seconds that’s repeatable after a 15-second cooldown. Hornet also gets the Uconnect 5 infotainment system. The 1.3-liter, four-cylinder turbo PHEV is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. We’re going to go in there with something that nobody else is shopping for in that segment,” The Detroit Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network, has previously reported that an the perfect little politically correct segment for us to go in, (rile) it up and disrupt that segment.

Dodge unveils the Plug-in Hybrid Hornet, its first electrified model (Electric Vehicles)

And this is just the start of the Dodge brand’s electrification journey.” (2,500 Nm) of torque from 0 rpm. A high-power inverter and 7.4-kW charging module allow for a full battery charge to be reached in approximately 2.5 hours using a Level 2 charger.

2023 Dodge Hornet SUV Promises Power and Efficiency (ConsumerReports.org)

The 2023 Dodge Hornet aims to be the sportiest SUV under $30000, with a regular turbo engine and a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It is cousin to the Alfa Romeo ...

Hornet R/T versions use the more interesting-sounding powertrain, a plug-in hybrid that nets 288 hp combined, based on a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, paired with a six-speed automatic, that works in parallel with a 90-kilowatt electric motor on the rear axle and 15.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. Cloth seats are standard, with leather seats coming on the GT Plus and R/T Plus trims. Much like the exterior, these screens, along with most of the design and hardware, are shared with the Tonale. The base Hornet GT features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, the system lacks any sort of knob for tuning, although a volume scroll wheel sits on the center console to the right of the conventional gear selector. Similarly, the rear window doesn’t appear to have a significant rake to it, and the wiper appears to cover a significant swath of glass. The multifunction steering wheel has controls for entertainment selections and volume, the driver information center in the gauge cluster, cruise control, and some active safety features. The GLH (Goes Like Hell) name was first used on the Shelby-tuned Dodge Omni, which was sold between 1984 and 1986. The bottom of the windows flows out of the hood, which on the Dodge features two large vents for removing engine heat, and begins to curve upward midway through the rear door, forming a curved triangular-shaped third window that tapers at the roofline. Dodge also introduced a Hornet GT GLH Concept, which is being used to showcase the Direct Connection collection of available performance parts. Like most cars and SUVs that benefit (or suffer, depending on your point of view) from badge engineering, the Hornet’s main shape and sheet metal are almost identical to the Tonale. Fitting with the brand’s muscle car image, Dodge is positioning the Hornet as a performance-oriented sporty compact SUV.

2023 Dodge Hornet Already Has 14000 Preorders (Motor1)

Speaking at the third day of Dodge Speed Week, Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis said the automaker already had 14000 pre-orders for the new Hornet.

Sharing its platform with the [Alfa Romeo Tonale](https://www.motor1.com/alfa-romeo/tonale/), it seems some folks feel Dodge didn't do enough to differentiate the [ Hornet](https://www.motor1.com/dodge/hornet/) from its Italian sibling. [ Dodge Hornet debut post](https://www.motor1.com/news/604758/2023-dodge-hornet-official-debut/) has been mixed, to say the least. The next step up from the GT is the Hornet R/T, and that's where the electrification comes in. ECU tunes, suspension kits, exhaust upgrades, and GLH graphics present a version of the Hornet that could be created by buyers seeking a bit more excitement from the platform. The Hornet GT is where it starts, utilizing a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 265 horsepower. The Dodge Hornet promises impressive performance for under $30,000, and apparently, it's garnered some attention.

Dodge Says 14000 Hornet Pre-Orders Were Placed In The First 24 ... (Carscoops)

The entry-level Dodge Hornet GT is the only model currently available to pre-order.

The R/T uses a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder alongside an electric motor, resulting in a combined +285 hp and 383 lb-ft (519 Nm) of torque, meaning it can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 6.1 seconds with the ‘PowerShot’ feature enabled off the line. It will be interesting to see what percentage of buyers opt for the Hornet GT and the R/T when the latter hits the market next year. This engine works alongside a nine-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels and allowing the SUV to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 6.5 seconds, not bad for an entry-level model.
