Arsenal v Leicester, Manchester City v Bournemouth: clockwatch ... (The Guardian)

Join Rob Smyth for updates from all the 3pm BST kick-offs in the Premier League and beyond.

We’ll also keep a side eye on events throughout the EFL, in Scotland and in Europe, but our main focus will be these five Premier League games: Jefferson Lerma, Chris Mepham and Lloyd Kelly have the ginormous task of stopping Haaland, who makes his home debut for Manchester City today. “Those images of team selections allow a comparison of PR departments’ choice of font and style,” squints Charles Antakia. “ They all go for all-caps, some (Leicester, Leeds) with generous kerning, but Man City suffocatingly tight. In decades to come, historians will scratch their heads when they reflect upon the late 2010s and early 2020s. Leicester’s looks like it belongs on the portfolio of a start-up company specialising in eco-friendly toothpaste. Here in Indianapolis, it is an unseasonably cool 64 (19 to you). Location, location, location.” It does look violently hot at the Emirates in particular. “Good afternoon, Rob!” says Alexandra Ashton. “Following up on Charles’ analysis of the teamsheets posted by various clubs’ social media, I’d like to voice my discontent with Wolves (using a different font for the numbers, captain ©, and the word “substitutes”??) and Bournemouth (I may be blind, but those numbers seem rather hard to read). Conversely, I’m fond of Newcastle’s semi-condensed looking font and very pretty colour scheme. Haaland wrestled for the ball and then forced a return pass through to Ilkay Gundogan, who slapped it emphatically past Mark Travers. City double their lead with a goal of unobtrusive class. He received the ball on the left side of the area, looked up and floated the ball imaginatively across Ward and into the far corner. Bournemouth made the mistake of crossing the halfway line and were punished on the break.

Travers makes a crucial stop to keep De Bruyne out! Mahrez cuts inside from the right of the box, and finds Gundogan in some space. Haaland cannot quite meet Walker's cross into the area, but luckily for Cancelo, the ball drops to him. The attacker stays down and gets checked over by the physios. Just over fifteen minutes to go. Cancelo's powerful cross ricochets off the Colombian and into the back of the net.

Man City earns 2nd win by thrashing Bournemouth 4-0 in EPL (The Washington Post)

MANCHESTER, England — Erling Haaland might not hog all of Manchester City's goals this season, after all. Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden ...

Gundogan’s left-footed finish found the bottom corner in the 19th for his 50th goal for City. De Bruyne returned the favor for Foden six minutes later, slipping a brilliant pass through the legs of a defender and into the path of his teammate, who took a touch and fired in a deflected shot that beat goalkeeper Mark Travers. De Bruyne scored the pick of the goals, the playmaker cutting inside on a counterattack led by Foden in the 31st, beating a defender and bending his shot with the outside of his right foot into the far corner.

Man City 4-0 Bournemouth summary: score, goals, highlights ... (AS English)

Lerma og makes it 4-0 for City. - Gundogan, De Bruyne and Foden put City ahead at the interval. - Haaland makes home Premier League debut.

Haaland very much the poster boy for Manchester City at the moment. Obviously, way too early to read into the current Premier League table at present despite today's fixture pitting fourth vs third. The sides are in the tunnel with a packed Etihad Stadium awaiting the 22 players. “It is difficult and such a good challenge in training sessions. Another corner (4th) for City as the home side are laying siege now to the Bournemouth goal. Rodri this time with the header and the former Atleti man should have done better. Imperative that Bournemouth keep the score to just one goal to keep the contest alive. This could be a rough day for Bournemouth as Scott Parker will be hoping to limit the damage as Grealish takes the place of Foden. City dominating proceedings with goals from Gundogan, De Bruyne and Foden. The visitors have been outclassed and Ederson has just been tested once and saved admirably when called upon. The key stats after half an hour of action.... Next up for Bournemouth is a home game vs Arsenal with City heading to the North East to face Newcastle United. A strike from the visiting side is the only thing that could igntie this game as a contest.

This was the 20th time De Bruyne had scored and assisted in a Premier League game. "They attract you with the short passes and then switch the play. "We started really well, with three or four corners and we had chances. He is so often the fulcrum of City’s attack and that was the case again today in a contest in which he was a constant threat. Bournemouth was incredibly well structured defensively, but not just defensively offensively as well. Rodrigo was alert to win the ball back in the build-up to our second, finding Foden, who released De Bruyne for a goal of the highest quality and, when the visitors conceded possession again, Mahrez’s raking cross-field ball to the Belgian saw Guardiola’s men go from back to front in two passes.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland completed two passes in his side's 4-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

He told The Athletic: "The most difficult job in the world is when you're a striker vs a [defence] with three CMs, three CBs and you're in the middle. We'll find many of these but it's a question of time. Haaland helped set up Ilkay Gundogan for the opening goal 19 minutes in and after that, his only completed pass was to start the second half.

Mark Travers, who had earlier denied Foden when De Bruyne threaded the needle, made a smart stop to deny the Belgian a second, before he then fired over from the edge of Bournemouth’s box. Barcelona finding a few million quid down the back of the sofa might be the only thing that can ruin Guardiola’s August. Last season’s 19 strikes were the most impressive numbers of his career and those will only improve this time as a result of what Haaland brings. Foden’s fortunate third was also mainly thanks to ingenuity from the fulcrum, who could end up with the captain’s armband when the squad take to the ballots over the coming weeks as they choose Fernandinho’s replacement. He wanders off to the left, to Phil Foden’s delight when the youngster latched onto a through ball that nutmegged poor Chris Mepham and went in via two deflections as City scored their third eight minutes before half-time. He will be regularly occupied by at least two men and was forcefully barged off the ball by Jefferson Lerma seconds before the move that manufactured City’s advantage.
