He gets the ball in traffic inside the Leicester box and lofts a beautiful chip which nestles into the far corner. 41st min.: Jesus denied a hat trick again! A dose of Bukayo Saka, Jesus, and Martinelli is not the easiest way for the Foxes to get over their disappointing season-opening draw last weekend at home against Brentford, when they coughed up a 2-0 lead by conceding two goals in the span of the final half-hour.

Arsenal looked impressive in their opening day victory at Selhurst Park and will be looking to build momentum by beating Leicester at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon. The Gunners will be inspired by their recent form against their visitors, winning the last three head to heads and scoring seven goals in the process. Mikel Arteta’s men got off to the perfect start on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season, beating Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park last Friday. Despite coming under some pressure from the Eagles during parts of the match, Arsenal held out and claimed their first three points of the season.

In a similar vein, last season, Arsenal rescued the joint-fewest points from losing positions in the Premier League. The Gunners need to score first and maintain whatever early dominance they are able to establish. Mikel Arteta will be without Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson. Vieira has recovered from the foot injury that kept him out of preseason and is back in training but isn’t ready for matchday duties. You’ll recall that last season in the first meeting between the sides, Aaron Ramsdale made one of the Premier League saves of the season on a Maddison free kick. They scored from a corner against Crystal Palace in the opener. He’s scored the third most Premier League goals against Arsenal of any player, behind Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney. He missed out against the Gunners last spring due to injury and hasn’t scored in his last two appearances against Mikel Arteta’s side. Leicester have kept just one clean sheet in their last 26 away games, per Orbinho and have managed only one win away to Arsenal in their last 25 attempts.

Arsenal v Leicester, Manchester City v Bournemouth: clockwatch ... (The Guardian)

Join Rob Smyth for updates from all the 3pm BST kick-offs in the Premier League and beyond.

We’ll also keep a side eye on events throughout the EFL, in Scotland and in Europe, but our main focus will be these five Premier League games: Jefferson Lerma, Chris Mepham and Lloyd Kelly have the ginormous task of stopping Haaland, who makes his home debut for Manchester City today. “Those images of team selections allow a comparison of PR departments’ choice of font and style,” squints Charles Antakia. “ They all go for all-caps, some (Leicester, Leeds) with generous kerning, but Man City suffocatingly tight. In decades to come, historians will scratch their heads when they reflect upon the late 2010s and early 2020s. Leicester’s looks like it belongs on the portfolio of a start-up company specialising in eco-friendly toothpaste. Here in Indianapolis, it is an unseasonably cool 64 (19 to you). Location, location, location.” It does look violently hot at the Emirates in particular. “Good afternoon, Rob!” says Alexandra Ashton. “Following up on Charles’ analysis of the teamsheets posted by various clubs’ social media, I’d like to voice my discontent with Wolves (using a different font for the numbers, captain ©, and the word “substitutes”??) and Bournemouth (I may be blind, but those numbers seem rather hard to read). Conversely, I’m fond of Newcastle’s semi-condensed looking font and very pretty colour scheme. Haaland wrestled for the ball and then forced a return pass through to Ilkay Gundogan, who slapped it emphatically past Mark Travers. City double their lead with a goal of unobtrusive class. He received the ball on the left side of the area, looked up and floated the ball imaginatively across Ward and into the far corner. Bournemouth made the mistake of crossing the halfway line and were punished on the break.

Will they extend their lead or will Leicester climb back into this game? He has barely put a foot wrong this afternoon but Leicester get one back. Some of the football Arsenal are playing is tremendous. Arsenal go from one end to another in the blink of an eye. Arsenal are on the hunt for a fifth. Arsenal extended their lead just two minutes later through Granit Xhaka, who tapped the ball home following a mistake by Ward.

Arsenal vs. Leicester City score: Gabriel Jesus runs wild with two ... (CBSSports.com)

Granit Xhaka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Jesus contributed to the goals on a day when Mikel Arteta will take the good along with the defensive wobbles, especially ...

His opener was a thing of beauty and if this is a sign that Jesus can now perform at least to the level of his expected goals, it's a scary sight. From pretty finishes to gritty pressures in the box and everything in between, his play can transform an Arsenal side that needs to get back into Champions League. This is the killer instinct that Arsenal has lacked and why they tumbled out of Champions League contention last season, but with Jesus atop the line, if he can maintain this form, they should be able to mount a sustained challenge for top four. Pressuring Ward, Jesus forced the Foxes into a mistake before giving Granit Xhaka one of the easiest goals that he'll ever score. But against a Leicester team that tried to attack Arsenal, Jesus was able to take the game to them. Times are changing a the top of the Arsenal attack.

Arsenal 4 - 2 Leicester City - Match Report (Arsenal.com)

We beat Leicester 4-2 at the Emirates after goals from Martinelli, Xhaka and a first half brace from Jesus led us to victory.

Gabriel Jesus became the first player to score more than once on his home Premier League debut for us. I have a lot of freedom from the coach, from my teammates. The way they reacted was something I’ve never seen in football; the amount of support and connection they are showing with us, and especially with William, lifted the team straight away. However, once again we showed excellent courage to go back down the other end and restore the two-goal cushion. That piece of champagne football came just before the first scheduled water break which briefly slowed down proceedings, but 10 minutes before half-time Jesus doubled his tally with a much more routine finish than his first. Perhaps due to the conditions chances were initially at a premium, but we gradually began to dictate proceedings.

Arsenal vs Leicester: Gabriel Jesus feasts on flummoxed Foxes (NBC Sports)

Gabriel Jesus scored twice and assisted two other goals as confident Arsenal smacked Leicester City 4-2 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Jonny Evans had a day to forget, and the Foxes need center backs. Leicester wants to play, too, but it’s going to need better at the back. Arsenal only had 50 percent of the ball but out-attempted the Foxes 19-6.

Peter's In-Depth Player Ratings for Arsenal v Leicester City – Better ... (Just Arsenal News)

Mr Admin (me!) put up the Arsenal player ratings earlier and there were quite a few readers that took exception to a few of my decisions.

His vision and execution for the first goal was reminiscent of Henry. He is constantly moving, making it damn near impossible to mark him, and his instinct and reaction time creates panic in defences. Saka (6) Not one of his most influential games but when you have frequently single handedly taken the fight to the opposition over two seasons then you can be forgiven. Gabriel (7) Commanding under the high ball and made several forays forward but ultimately doesn’t have the vision to produce a killer pass when the opportunity presents so tends to turns back. The angle for the Maddison goal favoured him and he would have expected to keep it out. Had no reason to come charging out for the Saliba own goal and would have prevented it if he had stayed on the goal line.
