Rain fell through the ceiling onto the heads of restaurant diners at Caesars Palace, while water pounded card tables at Planet Hollywood.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change found some evidence that rainfall from the Southwest monsoon has increased since the 1970s. Shortly after 9 p.m., the Weather Service issued a flood advisory for all of Clark County, where Las Vegas is located, cautioning that high water could affect low-lying and poor-drainage areas. Last week, 1,000 people were stranded in California’s Death Valley National Park because of a 1-in-1,000-year downpour. This year’s Southwest monsoon has been particularly intense, helping to relieve drought conditions in the region but also causing many significant flood events. The area is under a flood watch from 11 a.m. Friday to midnight Saturday because of the potential for slow-moving thunderstorms that could produce heavy rain and flash flooding, according to the Weather Service. At least a 20 percent chance of afternoon and evening storms is in the forecast through Monday. At one point, more than 17,500 customers were without power, Las Vegas television station KLAS-TV reported.

2 dead amid 'restless' monsoon-season flooding in Las Vegas (ABC News)

The National Weather Service is calling this the most “restless” summer monsoon season in the Las Vegas area in a decade.

The Clark County coroner did not immediately report the identities or causes of death in either case. The Las Vegas area usually receives about 4.2 inches (10.7 centimeters) of rain per year. Meteorologist Brian Planz said about 1.25 inches (3.2 centimeters) of rain fell overnight in some areas west of the Las Vegas Strip and near the city of Kingman in northwest Arizona. “That makes this the wettest monsoon season in ten years,” the weather service said over a Tweet chart labeled “Restless 2022 Monsoon.” It tallied 3.63 inches (9.2 centimeters) of summer rain in the region in 2012, but only a trace in 2020. Planz said 0.58 inch (1.47 centimeters) of rain was recorded at the official measuring spot at Harry Reid International Airport, bringing the total to 1.28 inches (3.25 centimeters) during the June 15 to Sept. 30 monsoon season. LAS VEGAS -- The most “restless” summer monsoon season in a decade became deadly Thursday, as intense lightning and thunderstorms flooded parts of southern Nevada and a leaky ceiling forced table games to stop at one Las Vegas Strip casino.

7 New And Unique Things To Do On The Las Vegas Strip (TravelAwaits)

Vegas is always reinventing itself, and this year has been especially exciting with a variety of new shows, attractions, restaurants, and more.

At the top of Park MGM is the boutique NoMad Hotel. With its own entrance, lobby, and elevators, this feels like a very exclusive experience. Here are a few of the places we’ve recently stayed and highly recommend. It’s not easy to find live music in Vegas outside of a large concert by a big name artist. The newest restaurant in Eataly is Toscana Ristorante & Bar. Set apart from the rest of the shops, Toscana is set in a warm, cozy, and quiet space serving cuisine inspired by Tuscany. We were treated to their four-course tasting menu paired with Italian wines. It’s a nice alternative to Starbucks and is far less crowded. We began with a burrata and tomato salad and a selection of prosciutto and mozzarella. In my mind, this is the Disneyland of Italian food. The 40,000-square-foot building houses dozens of restaurants and food stalls along with imported groceries, wine, and liquor. Jason and I chose to just roam through the experience at our own pace. Next is a larger gallery with images cast on four walls ultimately ending with an oversized projection of The Last Supper. My husband, Jason, and I have made three trips to Vegas this year and each time we’ve explored the newest offerings in town. Instead of a world tour, FlyOver has two options: an epic overview of the American West or Iceland. Since we were returning from a trip to Bryce Canyon National Park, Jason and I opted for the West. After buckling in, the rows of seats lift up and move towards an enormous, curved screen.

Las Vegas Strip Icon Closes to Make Way for Huge New Project (TheStreet)

Sin City has welcomed a lot of new projects, and viable locations on Las Vegas Boulevard don't stay empty very long.

"The project would reshape a busy stretch of the Strip that gets heavy foot traffic and is near several megaresorts," the paper added. The project, located on the east side of Las Vegas Boulevard just south of Harmon Avenue, would be three stories tall and later could include a hotel. The city has become a world-class shopping destination and it seems like there can never be too many massive retail developments.

Mass flooding hit Las Vegas for the second time in two weeks, sending cars floating and wreaking havoc when heavy rain poured into the valley on Thursday.

"The active monsoon across the West is expected to continue this weekend with a trajectory from the Four Corners region and Desert Southwest to the central Rockies," the NWS stated. Vegas has had no shortage of flooding this summer. Las Vegas annually receives around 4.2 inches of rain per year, usually spread out around 26 or 27 days. Meanwhile, locally heavy rain is likely near the Gulf Coast this weekend from the arrival of a cold front and weak tropical disturbance." Journalist Chaudhary Parvez posted a video to Twitter of severe flooding taking over a Las Vegas parking garage, with water swiftly moving across the ground and taking objects like a water cooler flying with it. But hundreds of visitors were treated to a truly unique entertainment experience this week when mass flooding hit the Las Vegas Strip, sending cars floating and wreaking havoc when heavy rain poured into the valley on Thursday.

A second flash flood within two weeks inundates Las Vegas, making 2022 the city's wettest monsoon season in a decade.
