Doubs, one of the pleasant surprises of camp, had 225 career receptions in college for 3,322 yards (14.8 average) and 26 touchdowns. He was also second on the 49ers with 16 explosive plays of 20 yards or more. He also threw one interception. In six regular-season games for the 49ers in 2021, Lance completed 41 of 71 passes (57.7 percent) for 603 yards, five TDs and two interceptions. For his collegiate career, Lance completed 208 of 318 passes (65.4 percent) for 2,947 yards and 30 touchdowns. Kickoff from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., is set for 8:30 p.m. ET. San Francisco is a 2.5-point favorite in the latest Packers vs. Here are the NFL odds and betting lines for Packers vs. 49ers and just locked in his NFL picks and predictions. The 49ers' biggest signing this offseason was Charvarius Ward, who will anchor the cornerback position opposite Emmanuel Moseley.
The Green Bay Packers open up their 2022 preseason schedule on the road against the San Francisco 49ers. Here are some final thoughts on positional battles, ...
Special teams contributions will be important for him to make this team, but he has continued to build his rapport and trust with Rodgers-and we all know how important that is. The players are still learning a new system and techniques, while Bisaccia has to overcome a decade-plus of sub-par special teams play. In part, I think one of the reasons that a third running back hasn’t emerged is because running on this Packers front-seven, especially outside the hash marks, has been so difficult. If the Packers were on the fence about him, I imagine they would want to see him in action. Green Bay recently had a pair of long-snappers in for a workout, and just last week, GM Brian Gutekunst mentioned that Coco (and at the time Steven Wirtel) is also competing with any long-snappers around the league who may end up cut. – Safety is one of those positions where LaFleur and Co. will have to decide on whether to roster four or five players.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Green Bay Packers' 2022 preseason opens Friday night at Levi's Stadium against the San Francisco 49ers.
"The guys that make it in this league and play a long time at a high level, they're able to handle that environment and those atmospheres. "This will be the first and best test to really see these guys. They're going up against a pretty good front and our front's been showing up." "Although we do feel good about the group, there's still a lot of growth in front of them," LaFleur said. "I do like the progress we've made. He's had some rough moments, too, and he remains his toughest critic, but the progress has been evident.
Aside from the No. 1 offensive line and linebacker Quay Walker, Friday night's preseason opener at San Francisco will be all about the backups for Packers ...
One, Jack Coco beat out incumbent Steven Wirtel and will be the only snapper against the 49ers. Vernon Scott had worked with the No. 1 defense all week with Darnell Savage nursing his hamstring. “He was a favorite of a bunch of our scouts,” Gutekunst said upon picking him in the fifth round in 2021. When Jaire Alexander got some time off last week, it was Shemar Jean-Charles who joined the No. 1 defense. He’s a very talented player and he’s picking it up fast.” Jonathan Garvin seems to have moved in front of the race to be the No. 3 outside linebacker. But he is a guy that we have a lot of confidence in, in terms of he’s played a lot of ball for us. Is Newman capable of playing that position and blocking, say, the Vikings’ Za’Darius Smith in Week 1 if David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins remain out of action? If Robert Tonyan isn’t cleared from his torn ACL in time for the start of the regular season, can Tyler Davis pick up the slack as the playmaking threat? This will be the first and best test to really see these guys.” Having gotten a taste of Jaire Alexander, fourth-round pick Romeo Doubs will get his first taste of an NFL opponent. “It’s been a little leaky up front, but he’s doing a good job of being able to manage that and really playing as real as you can in those situations, where he’s not just a sitting duck in there.
We won't see Aaron Rodgers for the road team, but we'll see Trey Lance and the Niners' first-team offense and defense. It would be a surprise to see both units ...
Don’t expect Jeff Wilson to get much run since the team knows what they have in him. The team knows what they have in the veterans or established starters. Mitchell missed six games as a rookie, including injuries to his knee, shoulder, ribs, and a concussion.
Although LaFleur hasn't confirmed it, it seems the Packers are planning on not playing most of their veterans in this game. San Francisco's preseason schedule ...
Neither coach is one to turn up the tempo and play fast so it seems to me that both teams will want to get film on the players competing for roster spots and get out of this game healthy. You’ll need to be in team territory to watch on the team websites or apps. San Francisco’s preseason schedule this year sees the team play all three of its games within a 12-day window. Danny Etling is the third-string quarterback for the Packers. This game will air nationally on NFL Network at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Friday. If you’re within the Packers or 49ers viewing areas, it is available on local TV and can be streamed on 49ers.com or Packers.com for free or on the team mobile phone app. Love is entering his third season with the Packers and saw action in six games last season.
Daniel Brunskill is competing to win the starting job at center against Jake Brendel. Meanwhile, fourth-round rookie Spencer Burford has been taking all of ...
The remaining practices the 49ers have and the preseason will be his opportunity to stake his claim as the starter. The 49ers have no reason to view Brunskill as an indefinite starter. That is something Kyle Shanahan has no worries with Brunskill should the need arise for him step in there, but for now he wants the young guys to get battle hardened. Winning the starting role at center is pivotal for Brunskill. Burford has taken over his right guard starting spot, so it’s essentially “boom or bust” as a starter for Brunskill at center. Quite the drop off for a guy who’s been a starter the last two seasons and was a good constant on a playoff run last year. Meanwhile, fourth-round rookie Spencer Burford has been taking all of the reps at right guard.
Featuring a Spanish-language simulcast, San Francisco will be the only NFL team to broadcast on FOX Sports Mexico this season beginning on Friday against ...
The 49ers will be the only team from the International Home Market Area (IHMA) program to air their games on FOX Sports Mexico. The second televised game will be against the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday 20th at 6:00 p.m. CT which will also be broadcasted on FOX Sports by José Pablo Coello, Ernesto del Valle and Carlos Rosado. The partnership will kick off with two of the team's three preseason games in 2022. This Friday, the first 49ers preseason game, in which they will face the Green Bay Packers at Levi's® Stadium, will start at 7:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted on FOX Sports by Ricardo García, Emilio León and Carlos Rosado.
“When the press conference [announcing his new contract] ended, Garoppolo shook hands, flashed his multi-million-dollar smile and disappeared into the offseason ...
Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch have both referred to Lance as being “made of the right stuff,” and I can’t help but wonder if this is part of what they were talking about. “The Jimmy Garoppolo vanishing act,” as Silver called it, occurred every year of Garoppolo’s tenure with the 49ers except last year. “When the press conference [announcing his new contract] ended, Garoppolo shook hands, flashed his multi-million-dollar smile and disappeared into the offseason ether.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo reportedly did not have the best texting habits after signing a hefty contract with the franchise.
Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Levi's Stadium. And we were looking at each other going, ‘What just happened?’” Garoppolo "ghosting" the 49ers seems understandable this offseason given the team's clear desire to move on to Trey Lance, but it appears his lack of reachability in years past surprised members of the staff.
49ers running back Elijah Mitchell is expected to miss all three preseason games after injuring his hamstring, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Like Mitchell, Ward is expected to be ready for the regular season. After offseason knee surgery, Mitchell came back to camp a bit heavier with the hopes of handling the workload without issue. Through the first two weeks of camp, Mitchell had resumed the role he took on last season as San Francisco's starting running back.
San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell is among several starters not suited up for tonight's preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers.
After a rookie season full of bumps and bruises and a procedure on his knee in the spring, 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell seems to be in a good place as training camp proceeds. He knows how important Mitchell is to the success of the upcoming season. Also out due to injury to start the game is defensive lineman Arik Armstead (knee sprain) and running back Elijah Mitchell (hamstring). Several 49ers players, including tight end George Kittle, tackle Trent Williams, running back Jeff Wilson, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, defensive linemen Nick Bosa, Samson Ebukam, and Charles Omenihu, and In April, Mitchell had a clean-up procedure on his knee, but he's been participating in drills at training camp and has been moving in the right direction as he gets back to full health. Once he is healthy, now he's got to get into the routine of how to practice each day, how to do what he needs to do to play running back for the longevity of a year." The 49ers took two more hits on the defensive line Friday, with defensive tackle Maurice Hurst suffering what is likely to be a season-ending injury and defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway sustaining a quad injury that could cost him a couple weeks of practice.
Then, in March, Carson Wentz, Deshaun Watson and Matt Ryan all moved to new teams to continue their careers. Things stayed quiet for a few months after that ...
It's unclear what the 49ers' asking price for Garoppolo has been thus far, but a drop may spark more interest in him and could help to facilitate a deal. So, the 49ers could drop their asking price for Jimmy G as they make a last-ditch effort to offload him for any type of asset. Some may think that the 49ers will keep Garoppolo beyond cut day, but in reality, it will be hard for the team to justify doing that. As such, the 49ers can cut Garoppolo to save nearly $25.6 million in cap space. There are a handful of teams across the NFL hosting quarterback competitions that could quickly go awry. It seems unlikely that he would suit up for the 49ers given that he isn't practicing with them. It shows that he is progressing, even if potential suitors can't see that on the field. So, a lot of teams feel like they have a plan for the position. But as Jimmy G trade watch enters its 11th hour, there is reason to believe that the preseason could finally lead to a move. The clock continues to tick on a potential Garoppolo deal as Week 1 of the season draws nearer. It makes sense that the Niners would want to give Lance, the No. 3 overall pick from the 2021 NFL Draft, a chance to start. Things stayed quiet for a few months after that before Baker Mayfield headed from Cleveland to Carolina to compete for the Panthers' starting job.
The San Francisco 49ers aren't worried about the door hitting Jimmy Garoppolo on the way out, apparently.
The latter seems to make a bit more sense as the Niners started pivoting towards publicly acknowledging they’re done with Garoppolo. Back in late July, coach Kyle Shanahan finally was clear that Jimmy G wouldn’t be on the team this season. After all, the team did trade a king’s ransom for the former FCS quarterback and at some point there needs to be a return on that investment. Why exactly someone from the Niners decided to talk about Garoppolo like this when they should be boosting his trade value isn't clear.
George Kittle, in a much lighter tone, warned us of the QB's poor texting skills during Super Bowl Week two years ago, but Silver's report suggests Kittle wasn' ...
And we were looking at each other going, ‘What just happened?’” Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Levi's Stadium. But that’s when, as Silver put it, “The Jimmy Garoppolo vanishing act” began, and became a staple of just about every offseason that followed.

Quick analysis of Trey Lance's two series for the 49ers vs. the Packers in the preseason opener.
On a third-and-10, Lance got good protection and uncorked a 76-yard strike to rookie WR Danny Gray for a touchdown. Lance’s first throw came on a bootleg where he hit WR Ray-Ray McCloud in stride for an easy completion. There were some ups and downs for the second-year signal caller, but he did lead a pair of scoring drives.
In his first preseason game as the 49ers' official starting quarterback, Trey Lance played two series and threw one touchdown pass.
Lance took off running on his first drop-back after failing to find anyone open. A year ago, Lance threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Trent Sherfield in his preseason debut. Coach Kyle Shanahan considers those head-to-head practices as much better preparation than the preseason games. The play gave the 49ers a 10-7 lead in the first quarter. Gray made the catch but could not get either foot inbounds. Lance's first series consisted of eight offensive players, which featured five running plays.
Nate Sudfeld, Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 NFL draft, threw a TD vs. the Packers in his NFL preseason debut.

– 49ers run defense is getting gashed in the second half. – Purdy to tight end Tanner Hudson for a touchdown! – Whewwwww! Third-and-long and Lance drops one in the bucket to Gray for a 76-yard touchdown. – More bad looks from the special teams. – Undrafted rookie linebacker Marcelino McCrary-Ball came up with an interception in the red zone. – Trey Sermon gets the first carry and stutter stepped a little bit before getting to the corner. Justin Skule is the new RT and he got flambeed. The 49ers couldn’t have drawn it up better. – Pressure and Lance nearly gets his legs taken out. He returned it 57 yards to the Packers’ 39 to end the first quarter. That should be it for him. Lance got eight snaps on that series, including three throws with one scramble.
Recapping the Packers' 28-21 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the preseason opener on Friday, Aug. 12, 2022.
– Rookie Tyler Goodson was the first running back on the field and finished with a team-high 14 touches (61 total yards). He showed some burst as a runner. – Jordan Love was up and down in the first appearance of his third NFL season. Later, rookie BJ Baylor created a 68-yard play on a catch against the blitz, and Dexter Williams ripped off a 25-yard run. The 49ers stung the Packers’ backups for a couple of explosive plays early. – OL Jon Runyan and Josh Myers: The interior starting duo looks ready for Week 1. …third-string quarterback Danny Etling was stopped on fourth-and-inches inside 49ers territory with under five minutes to go and the Packers trailing by seven points.
Nate Sudfeld and Ray-Ray McCloud hooked up on the opening play of the 2nd quarter to give the 49ers a 17-7 lead over the Packers.
QUARTERBACKS: A. Trey Lance performed as well as he could in a meaningless game without most of his starters. His quarterback rating was a perfect 158.3, he ...
Ray-Ray McCloud also caught a touchdown catch against a busted coverage, but later he fumbled, which was his issue when he played for the Steelers. Unfortunately for the 49ers, both of those players also had facemask penalties. The worst running backs were Trey Sermon, who averaged 1.8 yards per carry, and Ty Davis Price, who averaged 3.6 yards per carry, plus he dropped a pass. Danny Gray was the 49ers' best receiver -- he got open consistently against the Packers' backup corners. Trey Lance performed as well as he could in a meaningless game without most of his starters. He even slid for the first time in his football life.
Trey Lance flashed his big arm in a brief preseason stint for San Francisco with a 76-yard TD pass to speedy rookie Danny Gray that helped the 49ers beat ...
It didn't start well in the debut under new coordinator Rich Bisaccia with a holding penalty on the opening kick. It was an up-and-down debut for Doubs, who has impressed in training camp after being drafted in the fourth round. ... Niners CB Dontae Johnson (rubs) got hurt in the fourth quarter. The pass traveled 34 yards downfield, longer than all but one of Garoppolo's completions the past two seasons for San Francisco. But he had three interceptions in between those TDs, including one that went off tight end Tyler Davis' hands. He ran it once for 7 yards.

The Packers led 21-20, but the 49ers scored on the next possession. Love said he changed Davis’ route at the line and then attacked when the cornerback’s head was turned to the ball. Of course, it was Romeo Doubs. The rookie standout beat single coverage from the slot on fourth down to create a 34-yard touchdown from Jordan Love in the first quarter.
Green Bay Packers backup quarterback Jordan Love threw 33-yard touchdown passes to Romeo Doubs and Danny Davis in a preseason loss to the San Francisco ...
“Danny made the adjustment, made a great run after the catch. The Packers outgained the 49ers 437-328 but the three giveaways were killer. The second interception should have been a relatively easily pitch-and-catch on third down but instead was thrown high and behind rookie receiver Romeo Doubs. Doubs almost made a spectacular catch but lost the ball on the way to the turf. Dexter Williams, in his first carry in his second tour with Green Bay, turned a 5-yard run into a gain of 25 to kick-start the drive. His first interception was a bit high and whistled through the hands of tight end Tyler Davis. While not pinpoint perfect, it should have been caught. Those were the big plays in a 28-21 loss.
This was an offseason filled with noise for the San Francisco 49ers. With the opening contest of the preseason slate finally complete, there were several ...
Several players made notable contributions in the first game of the preseason. On top of that, Oren Burks looked good, and the front seven contained the Packers in the run game all night. Drake Jackson made multiple plays, including a great pursuit of Jordan Love that saw Jackson keep good contain, stay in front of the quarterback and have a good angle of attack has he made contact with Love on the ensuing pass. On the first drive on a deep out, he gained separation toward the sideline and extended to make the catch. Green Bay brought pressure again on the second drive, and Lance got rid of the balk quickly on a deep ball to Danny Gray for a 76 yard touchdown. With this kind of versatility and speed out wide, the 49ers and Lance could let it fly far more than we are accustomed.
Trey Lance shines in San Francisco 49ers preseason win over the Green Bay Packers. A look at that and more notes fom the 2022 opener.
Impressive young running back Elijah Mitchell missed Friday’s game with a hamstring injury that could force him from the duration of the preseason. Speaking of quarterbacks, New York Jets starter Zach Wilson went down with a non-contact knee injury in his team’s preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night. It seems as if any questions regarding San Francisco’s depth behind Lance in the quarterback room could soon be answered. San Francisco needs McGlinchey to perform at a high level if Lance is to have success in 2022. Speaking of rookie starters for a Super Bowl contender, Spencer Burford could very well end up being San Francisco’s starting right guard. In particular, Womack has caught the eyes of his coaching staff and fellow players. This former first-round pick from Notre Dame is going to be key to San Francisco’s success on offense in 2022. Free-agent signing Ray-Ray McCloud impressed in his 49ers debut, including a 39-yard touchdown strike from backup quarterback Nate Sudfeld. These two seem to have the inside shot to be San Francisco’s top slot guy should Jennings’ struggles continue. There’s now a darn good chance that he could be San Francisco’s starting slot cornerback come Week 1 against the Chicago Bears. With Samuel and Aiyuk entrenched in as San Francisco’s top two receivers, there’s a battle for the third spot. Gray ultimately caught two passes for 99 yards while filling in for resting starters Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. He already seems to have a special relationship with Lance. It wasn’t a perfect preseason debut for Lance as the the 49ers’ starting quarterback.
-Other depth chart notes: Tyler Goodson got the first running back reps, Jonathan Garvin and Tipa Galeai began at edge, Isaiah McDuffie was next to Quay Walker, ...
This is Deguara’s third season but really only his second in terms of playing time, and it often takes a year or two for tight ends to find to truly begin making an impact given the difficulty of the position. -We also saw cornerbacks Kabion Ento and Kiondre Thomas each with a nice pass breakup–that sixth CB role is available, although special teams contributions will be important. -The secondary and edge depth are two of the biggest concerns on this Packers team, but I wouldn’t be too concerned about those big plays. -We’ve heard about Jordan Love’s confidence all summer, and we saw some of that tonight–looking off defenders, putting some zip on the ball, a nice downfield completion as well as a few on the run. Amari Rodgers had a big return, Jack Coco was steady at long-snapper, but we also saw why Mason Crosby’s job was never in jeopardy. -Well, the Packers’ preseason began with a special teams penalty.
The San Francisco 49ers beat the Packers 28-21 in a game that saw few starting players or...
McCloud “had a good look based off the safety and it’s his job to beat the corner,” Shanahan said. He was taken to the locker room after he was initially examined in the sideline medical tent. McCloud lost a fumble that Green Bay recovered after he was drilled by safety Dallin Leavitt at the end of a 14-yard reception. “I thought he did some good things,” Shanahan said. Shanahan said the team thought Jackson had a shoulder stinger, but he was still being evaluated. “But I was just like, we’re going to be humble because there are many more to come.” Ray-Ray’s bugaboo: McCloud, who was signed in March, has had ball-security issues throughout his four-season career. “I knew he wasn’t going to catch him. Mitchell had offseason knee surgery. “I want to throw (the ball) in the stands,” Gray said. “When he caught it, I kind of put my hands up: Touchdown,” wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud said. “Yeah,” he said, “throw it to the fast guy.”
Every San Francisco 49ers quarterback threw a touchdown during Friday night's 28-21 preseason victory over the Green Bay Packers.
Lance spoke about what he's seen from a number of veterans and young players on offense, while Gray discussed where he is in his development since being selected by the 49ers in Round 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft. Trey Lance and the other 49ers quarterbacks played well in the win, going a combined 15-of-22 for 212 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. "Yeah, I just went out, and I had fun, and did what the coaches asked of me." "First NFL game, I don't know what to expect, to be honest with you. The first three quarters, when I didn't know I was going in, I was like, 'OK, I don't know.' But when the fourth quarter rolled around, I was like, 'Let's go.' I was ready." Purdy wasn't sure if he would get to play, knowing the plan was to give Sudfeld a long look.
The 49ers had to like what they saw from Trey Lance, Sam Womack and their young running backs, but an injury on the defensive line could be costly.
Wilson had his best practice of the summer on Wednesday. He was held out of the game Friday, along with 19 other players. When he emerged from the blue medical tent along the 49ers sideline, Jackson appeared to be in immense pain with his right arm dangling at his side. Elijah Mitchell was the 49ers’ leading rusher last season despite missing six games due to injuries. Cornerback Sam Womack was an under-the-radar player with whom the 49ers became impressed late in the draft process. But the yards did not come easy for them. He batted down a Jordan Love pass attempt at the line of scrimmage.
QB Jordan Love's stats don't tell the whole story.
"I thought the offensive line did a much better job," LaFleur said. But I was happy with the effort the guys gave, in every phase really." "That one we changed the route at the line, and I gave him a go route," Love said. "They held up really nicely throughout the course of the game. The second came on a back-shoulder throw to undrafted rookie Danny Davis during the two-minute drill at the end of the half. "The other one Rico (Gafford) slipped on the back end. But while coming to the ground with the defender, the ball was ripped away for a turnover. "We gave up two big-time plays and had three turnovers on offense. Love's first TD pass to Doubs was a perfectly thrown ball when Doubs beat his man cleanly off the line of scrimmage. The second was on a quick third-down out to rookie Romeo Doubs, who hauled in a 33-yard TD pass on fourth-and-short for Green Bay's first score of the game. The mistake was compounded when kicker Gabe Brkic badly missed a 32-yard field goal. I know he's going to want a couple of the throws back and certainly some reads.
The 49ers preseason opener vs. the Packers taught us a few things. Here's @nicholasmcgee24:
Womack was the star of the show on defense with two first-half interceptions. It isn’t clear what the 49ers will do at slot corner following K’Waun Williams’ departure in free agency. Here’s what we learned from the 28-21 win.
Matt LaFleur sat 33 players, including Aaron Rodgers and most defensive starters. Jordan Love threw three interceptions but also two long touchdowns, and ...
But a Super Bowl contender can’t have an inconsistent rookie at kicker, especially if the offense is going to be a work in progress early in the season. Love is still a young and talented player who hasn’t seen much of the field, but the inconsistency in important parts of playing the position is a bit maddening to start Year 3. Runyan and Myers need to provide a strong foundation in the middle of the offensive line because there are a lot of moving parts around him. The rookie might be talented (and he did connect on his three extra points), but the inconsistency of his training camp so far leaked into the preseason games. But there was bad, too: Love still displayed accuracy issues, especially throwing underneath to the flat, and a few decisions made with the ball – particularly under pressure – were questionable at best. The three interceptions look bad in the box score, but Tyler Davis flat dropped the first, Romeo Doubs had a catch wrestled away from him for the second, and two players ran the wrong route – pushing Love to force a tough throw – on the third.
Who helped their cause and who didn't in the 49ers' preseason opener vs. the Packers.
His route on the TD was nasty, and later in the game he threw a nice block on a short throw to RB JaMycal Hasty. It looks like McCloud is on track to do more than just return kicks for San Francisco, although regardless of the size of his role he needs to learn to hold onto the football. He made a nice snag on the sideline after a high throw from Lance. Gray couldn’t get his feet in for the reception, but he still went up and made the grab and overall looked like he’d be able to impact games in more ways than with straight-line speed. The undrafted rookie linebacker got in early and played a ton. They allowed a long kick return and return man JaMycal Hasty had a disastrous play where he grabbed a kickoff before it went out of bounds, then stepped out on the 49ers’ 5-yard-line. He got cooked by Packers rookie wide receiver Romeo Doubs for Green Bay’s first touchdown, and in general he looked like a player still getting his legs back after returning from a torn Achilles. Moore should be fine down the road, but it’s hard to imagine him starting Week 1 given how he looked Friday. It’s tough for a rookie cornerback to have a better debut than Womack. He played most of Friday’s game and came away with two interceptions – both on tough plays.
Too many mistakes, especially turnovers, doomed the Green Bay Packers in their preseason loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
While he made a nice breakup to show why he’s gotten the occasional first-team rep, he was beaten for a gain of 23 moments later. On the next play, the 49ers were celebrating a touchdown and a potential 14-point swing. Gafford intercepted six passes during his final two seasons at Wyoming, then ran a 4.22 in the 40 at pro day. A fourth-down completion from Jordan Love to Josiah Deguara helped move the ball to the 14. While Goodson had a 23-yard catch on a screen, fellow undrafted rookie B.J. Baylor had a catch-and-run gain of 68 and Dexter Williams had a 25-yard run just a couple days after re-signing, Taylor rushed three times for 10 yards and didn’t catch of his targets in the passing game. So, there were a lot of good things out there from Jordan. Just the poise that he showed in the pocket, that’s something we’re looking at. From his vantage point, two of the interceptions were drops and the third stemmed from a couple wrong routes. One was an off-target throw by Love but the other was a drop. But his second interception of the night, the one to Romeo Doubs, should have been an easy completion for a first down. two interceptions the rest of the season en route to winning his fourth MVP. So, let’s see how Love does next week against the Saints. Instead, the throw was high and behind Doubs, which turned a routine play into a disaster. Of course, with Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes and Rasul Douglas, the Packers are fortunate that their cornerback conundrum is limited to the next man up.
The best and worst players from the Packers' preseason opener vs. the 49ers, via Pro Football Focus grades.
Amari Rodgers earned a solid overall return grade. Love produced one big-time throw but just one turnover-worthy play and was plagued by four total drops. Gafford was charged with giving up a 39-yard touchdown pass to Ray-Ray McCloud. He still didn’t throw accurately enough and didn’t play particularly well from clean pockets. Bottom 5 defense Same goes for Taylor, who fell behind Tyler Goodson on the depth chart. The line was charged with giving up just four total pressures. Top 5 defense Overall, the offensive line played exceedingly well. The process does, especially for players fighting for roster spots. The Green Bay Packers gave up a late touchdown and lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the preseason opener on Friday night. Top 5 offense
Quarterback Trey Lance did what 49ers fans came to see at Levi's Stadium.
He does not want to put too much on film and give the Chicago Bears any kind of heads-up for their regular-season opener. Second, the kicker should never put himself in position to make a tackle in the preseason. But he also wants Lance to experience some success and enter the regular season with confidence. But it is also safe to say the night could not have gone much better. Gray took it the rest of the way for a 76-yard touchdown. If he touched the ball while standing out of bounds, the 49ers would have gotten the ball at 40-yard line. JaMycal Hasty, who has experience as a kick returner, made an inexcusable mental mistake when he took a kickoff out of bounds at the 5-yard line. First, it should never get to the point that the kicker has to make a tackle. Gray showed his 4.33 speed, and Lance delivered a well-thrown pass down the left sideline that traveled 42 yards in the air.
