Everything Samsung Announced at Galaxy Unpacked: Galaxy Z Flip ... (WIRED)

Say hello to two new foldable phones, new smartwatches, and a new pair of wireless earbuds.

Samsung also says it has further enhanced the durability of the main screens by 45 percent over the previous generation. It's like a normal phone, but you can fold it in half like a clamshell—a boon to anyone who hates how massive phones have become over the years. At today's second annual Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung unboxed the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4, which bring more refinements than ever to a still nascent category.

Samsung Unpacked 2022: The 4 Biggest Announcements (gearpatrol.com)

Samsung just announced the new Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 foldable smartphones, two new smartwatches and a new high-end pair of wireless earbuds.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro is the company's new and most high-end pair of wireless earbuds. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro starts at $450 and $500 for the LTE model, and is only available in a 45mm size. First, there's the Galaxy Watch5, which is an improved version of last year's Galaxy Watch 4. The Galaxy Watch 5 starts at $280, or $330 for the LTE model, and will be available in either 40mm or 44mm sizes. Multitasking is even more streamlined thanks to more apps supporting it and a new Taskbar layout, which makes the experience (when fully opened) very PC-like. Like before, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 supports wireless charging and works with the S Pen stylus. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the first device to ship with Android 12L, which is "a special version of Android created by Google for large-screen experiences."

At its August 2022 Galaxy Unpacked, Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold 4, the Watch 5 smartwatch line, and the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.

The Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are available to preorder today and will begin shipping on August 26th. Samsung also discussed how it incorporates recycled materials into the designs of the products announced at the event. The Z Flip 4 looks a lot like its predecessor — and yes, it still flips down like the flip phones of days gone by.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 review in progress: A smarter (and ... (Tom's Guide)

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 delivers a better foldable experience with Android 12L in a sleeker and lighter design.

But the Galaxy Z Fold 4 could be worth the splurge for those who demand the ultimate in productivity on the go — with some fun on the side. It has the same battery capacity of 4,400 mAh as the Galaxy Z Fold 4. This is one of the things that makes me nervous about the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 supports S Pen input, but there's no built-in holster for the pen. The Galaxy Z Fold series is no longer a step behind the Galaxy S series when it comes to cameras. And the Z Fold 4 really impresses when you look in the shadow areas. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 does a generally solid job capturing this statue of William Cullen Bryant. While the statue itself could be a bit more crisp, the surrounding stone has a remarkable amount of detail. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is available for pre-order now and has a release date of August 26. The Z Fold 4 measures 6.1 x 2.6 x 0.55-0.62 inches open and 6.1 x 5.1 x 0.21 inches closed, compared to 6.2 x 2.6 x 0.56 to 0.62 inches (closed), 6.2 x 5 x 0.25 inches (open) for the Z Flip 3. To make multitasking easier, there's a new Taskbar that appears at the bottom of the Galaxy Z Fold 4's display that automatically shows your recent apps. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 should be available through major retailers as well as all three big wireless carriers in the U.S. Be sure to check out our how to pre-order the Galaxy Z Fold 4 page for the best sales and discounts. And that's because it has a wider aspect ratio than the Galaxy Z Fold 3 (opens in new tab). That makes the 6.2-inch panel easier to use with one hand and frankly will make you feel more comfortable using the cover screen for things like checking notifications and quickly responding to messages.

Live updates: Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event 2022 (CNN)

Samsung is holding its Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday. The focus is on foldable phones, including the Z Flip 4 and the Z Fold 4.

Meanwhile, Samsung's Galaxy Buds are due for an update, particularly around sound quality and battery life. After an inauspicious start with its Galaxy Fold phone in 2019, Samsung has continued to push the concept of foldable smartphones, often at very high price points. The Flip's cover is rumored to get an enhanced interface, allowing easier access to notifications, widget control and wallet functionality, without needing to open the phone. Instagram head Adam Mosseri also appeared in a short video highlighting how the popular app can work on foldable devices. Then, in a previously taped clip, Samsung teased how its new foldable devices will be its best yet. On the outside, the Z Flip 4 is built with Gorilla Glass and its so-called Armor Aluminum, a tougher metal alloy. The cover can be personalized with custom fonts, icons and design. It also uses 100% recycled paper for the packing of its Galaxy S22 series line. As of today, 11 Galaxy devices use repurposed fishing nets, according to the company. Samsung gave an update on the Galaxy for the Planet initiative it announced at last year's Unpacked event. Samsung will also sell a special Golf Edition of both models with direction and distance features to help golfers on the course. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 starts at $1,799.99 and comes in gray-green, beige and black.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is a skinny phone that opens like a book to reveal a tablet-sized 7.6-inch screen. The Z Fold 4 screen is also brighter than the Fold 3 and has a higher refresh rate than earlier models, which makes things like scrolling through websites smoother. The battery and charging speed have also improved on the Watch 5 thanks in part to a 13% larger battery. The camera on the Flip 4 has been upgraded with a sensor that is 65% brighter. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is a small pocketable square that opens up to reveal a 6.7-inch screen inside. The buds launch on Aug. 26 for $229.99. The Watch 5 Pro lasts 80 hours on a single full charge. Both of Samsung's new folding phones support the company's S Pen stylus, a feature that drew consumers to its Galaxy Note phones for years. The Flip 4 also has a slimmer hinge, making the seam less obvious. Its design is also more durable for users who are engaging in more extreme sports. The Watch 5 also has a new body temperature sensor for more accurate health readings. It is aiming for foldable phone sales to surpass that of its past flagship smartphone, Galaxy Note, in the second half.

Everything Samsung Announced at Unpacked August 2022 (Review Geek)

Today is Samsung day! The company jumped on stage and unveiled a slew of new products and folding phones at its August 2022 Galaxy Unpacked event.

We’re getting a new Galaxy Z Fold 4 with flagship-level cameras, a sporty new Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, a fun Z Flip 4, and new earbuds to take on the AirPod Pros. The new Galaxy Buds 2 Pro is 15% smaller than the previous generation yet provides improved sound and longer battery life. Samsung ditched the 12MP primary camera from the Fold 3 and tossed in a powerful new 50MP main camera for the new Galaxy Z Fold 4. The Galaxy Watch 5 features a new temperature sensor and durable Sapphire Crystal glass. The smaller Watch 5 costs $279.99 for the Bluetooth version and $329.99 for LTE. Then, the tough new Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will run you $449. We didn’t get a release date yet, but the phone will retail for the usual $1,799 price tag and be available at all major carriers and retailers. There are subtle exterior differences with the Z Fold 4, but you’ll be happy to know it fixes most of the problems from the previous models. Debuting upgrades across the board for its Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, and a new Galaxy Watch 5. Samsung refines its foldable experience with the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Last year, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 represented a huge leap forward for a smartwatch not made by Apple. Running the latest Wear OS in partnership with Google, Samsung, and Fitbit, it had a lot to offer. Additionally, the bottom panel has a bigger surface area, making everything from sleep tracking to ECG more reliable than any previous Galaxy Watch options. If it wasn’t clear, folding phones are here to stay, and Samsung is leading the charge.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 adds battery life, screen strength, and ... (Ars Technica)

You lose the rotation bezel, but you gain somewhat confusing temp monitoring.

Samsung states the sensor "opens new possibilities for developers to expand their health and wellness options and for users to take advantage of all-new experiences." There's a Bluetooth-only "Golf Edition," with exclusive watch faces and a Smart Caddie app, that begins at $330. LTE costs $50 extra on each model. In its launch video and press materials, Samsung says that the temperature sensor provides users "an in-depth understanding of their wellness" and offers "more accurate readings," even if outside temperature changes. What's different about the Watch 5 is its watch-bottom BioActive Sensor. It measures optical heart rate, electrical heart signal, and bioelectrical impedance (body composition), allowing the watch to track workouts, sleep, stress, and other metrics. The Watch 5 models are powered by a 1.18 GHz version of the Exynos W920, the same SoC inside the Watch 4. Each Watch 5 model carries a notably larger battery than its Watch 4 equivalent.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 hands-on review: First impressions of all ... (Tom's Guide)

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 has a new skin-temperature reader, more scratch-resistant display and a longer-lasting battery life.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 seems to introduce a respectable collection of incremental upgrades. I still need to wear the Galaxy Watch 5 overnight to gauge the coaching experience and general accuracy. But unlike the option between the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 vs. I look forward to putting the Galaxy Watch 5 through the same trials, so stay tuned. I’ll update this review as I get more experience with the Galaxy Watch 5. As you might recall, last year the standard Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 offered an updated shape and feel compared to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic remains on sale as well. The most notable new internal Galaxy Watch 5 feature is the addition of a temperature analysis sensor, which appears to exist separately from Samsung’s 3-in-1 BioActive sensor. Speaking of health sensors, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 has a new one to offer — a skin-temperature reader. Though be sure to check out my hands-on Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro review. Otherwise, the watch is positioned to become the best Samsung watch for most people, and could even be the best smartwatch of the year. No, it’s not all that different from last year’s Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, but the handful of upgrades have incremental, yet ample appeal.

Samsung.com is crashing for many as it struggles to keep up with demand for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4.

Samsung’s website crashed for many after Unpacked earlier this year with the Galaxy S22, and the same occurred for last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 event. The site’s homepage and some product listings open up without fail, perhaps a bit slow, but pages generally tend to fail during the pre-order process. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are up for preorder ... (CNN)

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro look like strong upgrades from their predecessors, offering more durable designs, bigger batteries and new ...

However, the Watch 5 Pro could appeal to those who want a smartwatch that’s more robust than regular watches and lasts longer on a charge. The software shipping on the Watch 5 series is Wear OS 3.5 with Samsung’s One UI Watch on top. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro adds a new fitness feature: GPX compatibility. That’s pretty reassuring to hear — the Watch 4 series didn’t exactly do that well in the battery department, so any improvement is welcome. The Galaxy Watch 5 series uses the same 3-in-1 BioActive Sensor that debuted on the Watch 4, which combines optical heart rate, electrical heart signal and bioelectrical impedance analysis sensors into a single unit. When it’s time to recover from a workout, Samsung says the new Galaxy Watch 5 series offers an improved suite of tools like customized recommendations on water consumption based on sweat loss and post-cardio heart rates. The Watch 5 Pro felt noticeably heavier than the standard Watch 5 in our short hands-on time, but not to the point where it was uncomfortable to wear. It’ll come with custom watch faces, a lifetime membership to the Smart Caddie app and a unique two-tone band. We also saw two new smartwatches for the first time: the consumer-oriented Galaxy Watch 5 and all-new, rugged Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. There’s plenty in each watch to talk about, so let’s dive in. The bezel is raised around the screen to add some extra protection, and it comes with a more rugged band selection. It’ll cost a bit more than the regular Watch 5, starting at $329.99 for the Bluetooth models. If you order from Best Buy, you’ll get a free $40 gift card with a Watch 5 or a $60 gift card with a Watch 5 Pro.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, Watch 5 Pro feature bigger batteries (The Verge)

Samsung announced its next-gen Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro today at its Unpacked event. Both watches offer bigger batteries, a refreshed One UI Watch ...

The Watch 5 has a 13 percent larger battery — 284mAh battery in the 40mm Watch 5 and a 410mAh battery in the 44mm. The Watch 5 starts at $279.99 while the Pro starts at $449.99. LTE versions cost an extra $50. Both watches will also have a Bluetooth-only Golf Edition that starts at $329.99. Samsung promises all five of you that Bixby’s still available on the Watch 5 and Pro.) The Watch 5 series will ship with One UI Watch 4.5, which adds a host of new accessibility features, a better typing interface, and dual-SIM support. After all, Samsung promised 40 hours of battery life last year, but both the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic fell well short of that estimate. While the Galaxy Watch 4 series rebranded the main Galaxy Watch and Watch Active lines from the Tizen era, this year’s event introduces a new model altogether: the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Whereas the vanilla Galaxy Watch 5 is the entry-level flagship, the Pro is meant to be a more premium version aimed at outdoor enthusiasts. Still, if all Samsung does is nail battery life, it’ll go a long way toward fixing the gripes we had with the Galaxy Watch 4. The Galaxy Watch 5 comes in 40mm and 44mm, while the Pro comes in a single 45mm size. After weeks of leaks and rumors, Samsung finally announced the $279.99 Galaxy Watch 5 and $449.99 Galaxy Watch 5 Pro today at its Unpacked event. Samsung says that the improved sensor adds more advanced sleep tracking features to the Watch 5, including personalized sleep coaching. For physical bezel fans, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will remain as a midtier option between the Watch 5 and the Pro. And while there weren’t too many surprises, it seems the company took criticisms about the Galaxy Watch 4’s poor battery life to heart.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro — price, release date, specs and more (Tom's Guide)

Samsung has officially unveiled its Galaxy Buds 2 Pro earbuds with improved sonics, ANC and battery life. Here's everything you need to know.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro 2 earbuds have arrived! Sound tuning is by Samsung-owned audio specialist AKG. The Buds 2 Pro feature a newly designed 2-way coaxial speaker driver to handle separate mid/bass and high frequency bands. This is exclusive to Galaxy smartphones with Android 8.0 and One UI 4.1 or later with 1.5GB RAM or above. We'd hope for modest improvements in sound quality and ANC, while we definitely prefer the new design based on what we've seen so far. Our full review will be available in the coming days, along with face-offs against their closest competitors, so stay tuned for more. Thankfully, they look nothing like the awkward Samsung Galaxy Buds Live. The weight is under 0.2 ounces per bud. Samsung's Bixby assistant is fully compatible, as you'd expect, and can be activated through the touch-and-hold gesture — but there's no mention of Siri or Google Assistant support. The case, meanwhile, should provide 20 hours with ANC on and 30 hours with it off. Customers who pre-order will get a free wireless charger, and Samsung is offering money off and credit on eligible Galaxy Buds trade ins. Take calls on-the-go with powerful ANC29 to eliminate outside noise. This leaves AirPods Pro trailing behind in terms of day-to-day battery life performance. The charging case is not rated for water resistance.

Everything Samsung announced at the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 ... (Mashable)

Samsung pulled the curtain off new versions of the foldable Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold, as well as a couple of new wearables on Wednesday.

The battery can also last a whopping 80 hours on a full charge, so the Watch 5 Pro seems to be a useful companion for seriously outdoors-y types. There will, of course, be a good deal of synchronicity between your Samsung phone and your Galaxy Watch 5. Samsung didn’t go deep on what the potential uses of that would be, but of course app developers are free to come up with their own reasons to use it. However, this time's a little different, as this is the fourth round of foldables for Samsung with the introduction of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4. Google Meet is one of the apps Samsung said is “fully optimized” for the Z Flip 4. When the phone is open and half-folded (“Flex Mode” as Samsung calls it), there will be app-specific controls on the bottom half of the screen. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor keeps it on par with recent powerhouses like the ASUS ROG Phone 6 and a 3,700mAh battery will power the phone. A 4,400mAh battery that supports wireless charging will do its best to keep the Z Fold 4 alive throughout the day and S-Pen support means you can doodle away with Samsung’s proprietary stylus (sold separately). Samsung said apps like Google Meet and Zoom have been specifically optimized for the Z Fold 4’s screen, too. First up is the biggest and most expensive device in the Galaxy Unpacked lineup, the new Z Fold 4, which comes in at the same $1,800 price point as last year's model. The most interesting changes for this year's Z Fold are on the software side of things. It has a gargantuan 7.6-inch foldable display on the inside and an outer display that allows you to use it more like a regular smartphone with the shell closed.

Samsung's newest foldable phones are available now (NBC News)

Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event revealed the brand's latest phones, watches and earbuds. The new products are available for pre-order now.

You can also pair the buds with your Samsung TV. Should you receive a call while watching Netflix, the buds can connect to your phone momentarily, then go back to your TV programming after the call finishes, according to Samsung. The buds are also 15% smaller than the last version and have a battery life of 5 hours with active noise cancellation on, or 8 hours of battery without. You can also purchase the Bespoke edition, which allows you to customize the colors for the body and frame. You can also take photos and film stories and reels hands-free with the FlexCam feature, which allows you to fold the phone to act as its own stand/tripod. The Z Flip 4 still offers an armor aluminum frame and has IPX8 water resistance. The newest phone in Samsung’s Z Flip line has a slimmer hinge than the previous model, the Z Flip 3, which means more space for a larger battery that can reach a 50% charge in 30 minutes, according to Samsung. The cover screen helps you take check your notifications and take selfies with the back camera, manage your smart home devices and even pay for items without unfolding your phone. Samsung notes they removed a metal layer from the screen and added fiber reinforcement to another layer to keep the new model lighter without sacrificing the screen’s durability. Compared to the Z Fold 3, the new Z Fold 4 has thinner bezels (the space between your screen and the outer edge of the phone), so it has a larger display without increasing the physical size of the phone.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5: Everything New, From Better Battery to ... (CNET)

Samsung's newest watches, the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro, are arriving Aug. 26. They feature better battery life and skin temperature sensors, ...

The biggest difference with Samsung's newest watch this year is that it won't be the only Wear OS 3 watch around anymore. Temperature sensing has been a recent trend in wearables: Fitbit's watches have had it for a couple of years, Amazon's Halo bands have it, the Oura ring has it and Apple's next watch is reported to have it. The Watch 5 has a 410-mAh battery in the 44mm size, or 284 mAh in the smaller model. One thing that does appear to be gone, though, is that physical rotating bezel that was on the classic Watch 4 design. These watch faces and their colors will offer up most of the customized looks for most people, anyway. The bigger jump comes in the new Watch 5 Pro model, which has a huge 590-mAh battery. Samsung's Bluetooth-only Watch 5 will start at $280 (£269, AU$495), with the LTE version starting at $330. But the bigger-battery titanium-cased Pro model starts at $450 (£394, AU$725), or $500 for the LTE version. The previous Watch 4 had a 361-mAh battery for the 44mm size, or 247 mAh for the 40mm version. Meanwhile, Samsung's new watches are promising longer battery life over last year, a skin temperature sensor and a supposedly more durable sapphire crystal for the watch face instead of Gorilla Glass. The Pro model's extra-beefy battery promises days-long wear between charges, a trend that Apple's reported to follow on its next watch this fall. Is the Watch 5 worth getting? Google has the Pixel Watch arriving this fall, promising a blend of Fitbit and Google automatic smarts and design. This time it's coming with a bigger Pro model to go with it, with both models set for an Aug. 26 release alongside the new Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, Galaxy Fold 4 and Flip 4.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 vs. Z Fold 3 comparison: what's the ... (The Verge)

Samsung's new ultra-flagship foldable phone is real and coming very soon. But how does the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 stack up to the outgoing Z Fold 3?

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 S Pen Fold Edition S Pen Fold Edition All of these changes to the Z Fold 4 still come at the same price as the outgoing model, meaning it starts at $1,799.99 with 256GB of storage. The Z Fold 4, much like the S22 generation, offers numerous small improvements that iterate upon the last model. That said, the new Z Fold 4 maintains a lot of the improvements of last year’s Fold 3, like that IPX8 resistance, a 7.6-inch folding OLED, and a skinny yet usable outside cover screen — which are now cheaper to repair in the event of an accident. Last year’s Z Fold 3 helped break new ground in terms of folding phone normalcy with features like water resistance, which still pales in comparison to traditional slab phones. After seeing incremental changes and updates to the Galaxy S22 line in February, it’s now the ultra-flagship Galaxy Z Fold’s turn. Here, we’re comparing them spec for spec to see just how different Samsung’s upcoming Fold is.
