Chastain is the first car on two tires in second, Harvick the first on four tires in seventh. As Kyle Larson runs second, his team has suggested staying behind Ross Chastain and drafting together in order to build a gap between them and the rest of the field. Bell now completes the pass as Larson overdrives the exit of Turn 4 and has to get out of the throttle. Ross Chastain wins the race off pit road with a two-tire stop. Looked like Ty Gibbs was the first car that decided to stay out. Or so it did, until Noah Gragson took it three wide on Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin to make the pass for third. Larson takes second way from Gibbs, and he'll go after Chastain. Larson got his first career win here in 2016, and then swept both races in 2017 to make for three wins in a row. Christopher Bell now making the pass on Larson for second. Ty Gibbs had a slow pit stop due to trouble on the right rear. With just four races remaining in the regular season, time is running out for those not already qualified for the playoffs to get a victory, as Ryan Blaney and Martin Truex Jr. continue to hold the final two playoff spots. Speed that is demonstrated and muscle that is flexed by the best in NASCAR at the nearby Michigan International Speedway each summer. Kevin Harvick has now moved up to seventh as there's a dogfight for eighth on back.

Kyle Busch, who drove one of the fastest cars in qualifying, also got caught in the wreck. The 19-year-old will be competing in Kurt Busch’s No. 45 car for a third straight week as Busch recovers from concussion-like symptoms. He’ll begin in the No. 11 position. His day isn’t necessarily done — the team is evaluating the damage on the body of the car — but it’s a big setback for the No. 16 car nonetheless. Bubba Wallace, who started at the pole but pitted on the competition caution, is slowly making his way back up after falling behind and not earning a top-10 finish in Stage 1. Several cars spun out in the back part of the field, including Austin Cindric, who slammed into the wall head-on. It was a year ago when NASCAR Cup Series driver Erik Jones launched his own charitable foundation in his home state of Michigan. Today, with Jones back in ...
Most recently, Jones joined author Neal Thompson on a panel hosted by North Carolina Humanities on June 23 at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina, that discussed Thompson’s book, “Driving with the Devil: Southern Moonshine, Detroit Wheels and the Birth of NASCAR”. Jones saw an opportunity to share his passion for reading and the first #READwithErik event took place on April 21, 2020 when he sat down in front of a camera and read Dr. Seuss’ iconic “Oh, The Places You’ll Go” via his Facebook page. Before racing his No. 43 FOCUSfactor Chevrolet Camaro for Petty GMS, which sports an Erik Jones Foundation logo this weekend at Michigan to commemorate its one-year anniversary, Jones joined members of his foundation and distributed 10,000 travel-sized sunscreen containers to fans while encouraging them to schedule annual exams with their dermatologist. But the amount of money and work it takes to even have a clinical trial is staggering. I wanted to find a way to do more on a larger scale. He has read to students in the campgrounds at NASCAR venues, with his first in-person reading coming last August at Michigan where Jones read “M is for Mitten: A Michigan Alphabet” by Annie Appleford, to kids and their families at the Graves Family Campground. Subsequent visits have included Estrella Vista STEM Academy for Engineering in Avondale, Arizona, last November, where the Erik Jones Foundation donated 100 books to the school library, and Celeste Henkel Elementary School in Statesville, North Carolina, earlier this year where Jones read another Dr. Seuss classic, “The Cat in the Hat”. Jones returned to an at-track campground event in May during the Southern 500 race weekend at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, reading “Back Roads, Country Toads” by Devin Scillian and illustrated by Tim Bowers to kids and their families. But cancer detection and care have been a priority for Jones since his father, Dave, succumbed to the disease in 2016. MRF’s website, www.melanoma.org, is the premier source for melanoma information. It’s a cause that’s pretty important to me, so when we had our first fundraiser, I wanted the MRF to be the beneficiary.” I enrolled in a phase one clinical trial at UCLA and it saved my life. And what I’ve learned since then is how important early detection is, because the sooner you diagnose it, the more options you have for treatment. “It cannot be overstated how important donations like this one from the Erik Jones Foundation are to life-saving research and drug development,” said Stratos, who received her diagnosis in November 2009.

Kevin Harvick pulls away from Bubba Wallace on restart with 35 laps to go to earn his sixth NASCAR Cup win at Michigan International Speedway.
“Michigan has been a great place for us.“ NASCAR has had 15 different Cup winners this season, closing in on the playoff-era record of 16, set last year. “It’s been a while,“ he acknowledged.
[I should have] Got clear of the 5 (Kyle Larson) sooner. He was doing his part staying on my quarter there and keeping me tight and allowed the 4 (Kevin Harvick) ...
It was going to be a 40-lap run and it was going to be plenty of time to get back up there because we had a really fast car. Just irresponsible, I guess, running in the middle of the pack and just really frustrating to be out of this race this early. Was not really in a hurry and knew we were coming to stage points in another 40 laps or so and it was going to be a long run to get there and then we all just crashed. Just was trying to bide my time and knew we weren’t necessarily going to need to be in a hurry there to get points at the end of that stage. Lost the handle a bit toward the back half of the top 10 and thankfully we got that late yellow and were able to make some changes and get a good restart with about 37 laps to go and drive back up to a top-10 finish. We had to take a wave-around, and there weren’t enough laps left in the race to get back up there. The guys did a great job working on it, but I got in the wall toward the end and didn’t help. It was nice to get him back, so that was good to get it back and get a top five. Erik Jones — Finished 8th: “It was an up-and-down day for the FOCUSfactor Chevy. We had track position early and got up there towards the top five and just kind of got farther and farther back through the day a little bit. We’ve had really fast cars throughout the year, and Dover comes to mind and Pocono comes to mind and this race comes to mind and a bunch of others. Could have taken the top and pushed the 4 and then I could have been the 5 in that center area. And a lot of things went our way today, which we haven’t had all year long, have things go our way and have things fall our way.
Heavy rain hit Michigan International Speedway 30 minutes before the race was supposed to begin.
MIS is advising fans to take cover and button down their campsites because of the storms. More rain is expected later this afternoon, but NASCAR is still planning to get the race in sometime Sunday. The race is currently under a weather delay.
Kevin Harvick's win, his first since September 2020, snaps his 65-start winless streak and punches his ticket into the 2022 NASCAR Cup playoffs.
"Coming to Michigan has been a great place for us," Harvick said. Denny Hamlin, who won Stage 2, took third followed by Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney. He led just 13 laps the entire season entering Sunday.
Today, the NASCAR Cup Series unloads in Brooklyn, MI. The 2-mile oval of Michigan International Speedway is set to host the Firekeepers Casino 400.
Wins / Points Harvick stays out to take over the lead. 44 to go, Suarez and Chastain pit under green. Suarez wins the race off turn two via the outside lane. Hamlin finally clears him in turn four. Hamlin cycles back to the race lead. Lap 98, Cole Custer’s left front tire is on fire! Chastain wins the race to the pit exit with two tires. Bell leads most of the field to the pit lane. Ross Chastain; 7. Austin Cindric is clipped and sent nose first into the outside wall. Wallace heads for the pit lane.
Kevin Harvick won the 2022 FireKeepers Casino 400 on Sunday, his sixth career victory at Michigan International Speedway.
"To have some of our drivers locked in (to the playoffs) and some fighting to get in, whether it was Blaney or Harvick, there was a lot of pressure on this weekend," he said. Just moments after the the first restart, on Lap 22, the cars came around Turn 2 and what appeared to be an attempted pass led to a crash. "She did go for a ride, but we had to talk her into it," he laughed. "The next thing you know, it comes together. As for Harvick, Sunday was a lesson in patience. Infinity." "Good timing for sure," Harvick said of his win to USA Network in victory lane. Wish we could've got Toyota in victory lane, wish we could've got McDonalds in victory lane. He and his crew chief Rodney Childers said they did not know it had been 65 races since their last victory. "All in all an incredible weekend. "I'm replaying everything I could've done differently," Wallace said in a television interview, fighting back tears. Denny Hamlin, who won Stage 2, took third followed by Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney.
CAMBRIDGE TWP. — Maybe it was a familiar sight, with four of the last five NASCAR Cup Series races in Michigan ending with the No.
Hamlin pulled away from Suarez with minimal trouble over the remaining seven laps to win Stage 2 and seal up a share of playoff points. Wallace managed to finally beat pull ahead of Logano with 18 laps to go but by then, it was too late. Given the timing, Jones needed a caution to stay up top and he got one when one of Cris Custer’s front tires popped and his wheel well was engulfed in flames. Bell tried to maneuver around Chastain and hit the wall, forcing another caution as the race wore on. Bell led the way out of the restart in Lap 31 as Hamlin muscled out Jones for second place. From there, Bell maneuvered his way back into the fold, passing Gibbs and Larson to trail only Chastain around midpoint of Stage 2. Suarez took an early lead in Stage 3 with Bell and Chastain running hot right behind him. With the green flag back waving in the air, Bell blew out of Turn 2 for sole possession of first place – only to be slowed by yet another caution. The fifth different leader of the race, Hamlin quickly fell to 13th after pitting at Lap 95. Truex Jr. and Hamlin soared up a combined nine spots to trail them in third and fourth place as they rounded Turn 4 heading into the restart. Stage 2 surprised early and often, with Xfinity Series driver Ty Gibbs leading under the caution flag at Lap 49. The 15th different driver to win a NASCAR Cup Series event this season, his performance on Sunday marked the sixth victory of his career at MIS and broke a 65-race winless streak.
Kevin Harvick won the FireKeepers Casino 400 on Sunday at Michigan International Speedway, snapping a 65-race winless drought.
He continued to run up front in his No. 99 Chevrolet with his Trackhouse Racing teammate Chastain second, followed by JGR teammates Hamlin and Bell with Wallace fifth and Harvick sixth when Suarez and Chastain hit the pits for their final stop with 43 laps remaining. On the restart with 35 laps remaining, Harvick became the 10th different leader which is big since he had led just 13 laps all season. Jones was strong all day in his No. 43 Chevrolet, needing to get that win to make the playoffs. “Everybody who doubted us doesn’t know us,” said Harvick, the 2014 Cup series champion, who earned his 59th career win, also and more importantly ending his 65-race winless streak. A lot of things went our way today which we haven’t had all year long, and then there at the end we pitted, didn’t go a lap down and the caution came out and got control of the race, that’s the thing I struggled with the most today, was traffic and restarts and just having to make up ground, but once I got clear track that baby was hunting. And, Team Penske driver Ryan Blaney has to be sweating with just three races left before the playoffs begin. Truex entered the race fourth in points, but still without a win. Hopefully we can get to Victory Lane again soon.” When Chastain returned to the track, he collided with Bell when Bell attempted to block him, forcing a caution and an end to their chances for victory. Fans had to be on the edge of their seats when Ross Chastain took the lead on the restart in his No. 1 Chevrolet to open up Stage 2 and then Denny Hamlin ran him down in his No. 11 Toyota, actually taking the lead when Christopher Bell pushed him around Chastain on the high side on lap 79. The early accident was major disappointment for Kyle Busch, who is in the final year of a contract with Joe Gibbs Racing and in search of a sponsor to keep his ride in the No. 18 Toyota Camry. Harvick gave Ford its eighth straight win at MIS with Harvick winning for the sixth time on the two-mile superspeedway, including the August race in 2018, the August race in ’19, a season’s sweep in 2020 and again Sunday.
Here's a look at the winners and losers from Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway.
His Michigan race ended early after his involvement in a nine-car crash on the 25th lap. Kyle Busch — Busch has had thoroughly miserable luck of late. Harvick had grown tired of answering questions about his extended winless streak, which reached 65 before he scored Sunday at MIS. And it was no fluke.
