Hunt, who led the NFL in rushing as a rookie with the Chiefs in 2017, when he had 1,327 yards, was released by Kansas City a year later after video surfaced of him shoving and kicking a woman. Watson was suspended for six games by disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson on Monday, but the NFL appealed the ruling Wednesday, seeking a tougher penalty. He signed with the Browns in 2019 and was suspended for the first eight games of that season for violating the personal conduct policy.

Browns' Kareem Hunt Requests Trade Amid Training Camp Holdout ... (Sports Illustrated)

The running back is entering the final year of his contract with the team.

The Browns have Chubb signed through 2024 thanks to a three-year, $36 million contract that begins this season. Hunt is in the final year of a two-year, $13.25 million extension. Hunt held out of team drills on Friday and Saturday as a way to let Cleveland know he was unhappy with his contract.

Kareem Hunt's "pay me or trade me" stance problematic in multiple ... (Browns Wire)

The Cleveland Browns have another situation on their hands with RB Kareem Hunt asking for a new contract or to be traded.

Some have pointed out the possibility of using Hunt as a part of a trade for QB Jimmy Garoppolo. There also may just be a desperate team needing some kind of pop. While it is important to note his role as a backup to Chubb, Hunt hasn’t been the impact player he once was: Has the last three years shown enough for another team to trade assets of value for him? Yes. Whether that comes from more money, an extension or just talking it out, Hunt has always loved playing for the Browns. That has dropped to 7.9 with the Browns. In the end, if nothing happens, Hunt will be playing for the Browns this year. The change now is that it seems Hunt is expecting a new contract or to be traded, not just hoping to stick around with his hometown team. Hunt’s stance is now known, few teams value running backs highly at this point and, unless there is an injury, no contending team has a substantial glaring need at the position. In any negotiation, leverage is an important piece of the puzzle. To stop doing team drills over a week into training camp is poor planning and timing by Hunt from the outside looking in. While we still have over a month until the start of the regular season, the timing of this decision is less than ideal. The team has also committed to Chubb as their lead back.

Kareem Hunt trade rumors: 3 teams that should force Browns to deal ... (FanSided)

The Browns told their running back that a Kareem Hunt trade won't happen but these three NFL teams should make offers Cleveland can't turn down.

What he lacks, though, is consistent production as a pass-catcher and the explosiveness that a player like Hunt can provide. It’s a wonder that it took this long, but Kareem Hunt is seemingly tired of being second fiddle in the Cleveland Browns backfield. What it might take is just one of these other clubs calling up the Browns and making an offer that they can’t pass up.

Last season, Hunt missed seven games with calf and ankle injuries, and two games with COVID-19. In eight contests, he ran for 386 yards and five touchdowns. As he is looking for a new contract, Hunt was one of the players this off-season who reported to camp but decided to “hold-in,” forgoing practices with the team as he looks to negotiate a new contract. Under the contract, he is set to earn a base salary of $1.35 million this year, with a roster bonus of $4.9 million as well.

Why did Kareem Hunt request a trade? New contract at root of ... (Sporting News)

Hunt becomes the latest Browns player to request a trade, but the team doesn't seem willing to move him.

Kelly, 25, played just three offensive snaps for the Browns in 2021 but he totaled 13 yards on two carries. He also added 212 catches for 220 yards and a touchdown through the air. Kareem Hunt requested a trade away from the Browns as he looks for a new contract in Cleveland or elsewhere. He has potential as a third-down back and his versatility and return skills will likely keep him on Cleveland's 53-man roster. If Cleveland does reach a true impasse with Hunt, Johnson would likely step into the top backup role behind Chubb. He should find success if asked to do that, and that makes him a great third-string running back. Hunt remains one of the league's best No. 2 running backs and could be a quality starter for another NFL team. However, if his hold-in lingers and the Browns do move on from him, they have plenty of young options available to replace him. Hunt missed nine of Cleveland's 17 games in 2021 due to a combination of injuries and illnesses. He has served as a high-quality No. 2 runner behind Nick Chubb and plays a key role for the team as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. Here's a look at how it breaks down for Cleveland and which players may end up on the roster bubble as a result. Hunt becomes the third notable Browns player to request a trade over the last calendar year. During the 2022 offseason, quarterback Baker Mayfield requested a trade away from the Browns after they became involved in the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes.

Kareem Hunt was a full participant at Browns training camp on Sunday despite having a trade request turned down as he seeks a new contract.

I think (running backs coach) Stump (Mitchell) does a great job with with that crew, as you know, so they're working really hard and they're gonna continue to do that." I don't like that feeling not being able to go out there and help the team, so it was very tough." "I think, like you mentioned, a ton of talent. The Hunt situation is the latest off-the-field drama that has carried over into training camp. "On both sides, if they come correct and make me feel great, then I’ll be willing to be here." He signed a two-year, $13.25-million extension in 2020. According to a league source, that's not about to change, even though Hunt and his representatives have requested a trade. Stefanski declined to state what kind of recourse would be taken against the running back. He grew up less than 20 miles east of Cleveland in Willoughby, where he was a standout for Willoughby South High School. “No," Stefanski said when asked if a player can only participate in select portions of practice. Part of that campaign has also involved sitting out all team drills during Friday's and Saturday's practices. BEREA – Kareem Hunt jogged out onto the practice field at the Browns training facility about 1:45 Sunday afternoon.

Kareem Hunt wants a new contract. The Browns aren't giving him one. So, the running back asked the team to trade him. The Browns aren't doing that either.

He was signed by the Browns two months later and was suspended for eight games afterward. Hunt, 27, is on the final year of a two-year, $12 million contract. In November of 2018, Hunt was released by the Chiefs after a video showed him pushing and kicking a woman at a hotel.

Kareem Hunt landing spots: Bills, 49ers among best fits for Browns ... (Sporting News)

The Browns denied Hunt's trade request but if they reverse course, plenty of teams could have an interest in his services.

Hunt began his career with the Chiefs in 2017 and won the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year award during that campaign. The Dolphins are similar to the 49ers in that they have a lot of solid running backs. He has been an efficient red-zone runner for the Browns (four TDs on 15 red-zone carries) and would be an upgrade over Sanders in that area. The difference is that Hunt would be the lead back when paired with Mitchell. Perhaps Edmonds can emerge as that, but if the Dolphins want to hedge their bet, they can pursue Hunt to add even more to their weaponry. Hunt has a lot bigger at 5-11, 216 and could provide the team with a true, three-down back given his ability as a pass-catcher. However, Jacobs and Drake were drafted and signed by the previous regime, so the new Raiders' brain trust is not tied to them. Hunt would instantly be a true, three-down starter for the 49ers while Mitchell would be an excellent No. 2 back behind him. Elijah Mitchell was a solid runner as a rookie for the 49ers last year, but he missed six games with various injuries. He will be a free agent following the 2022 season and previously expressed a desire to remain in Cleveland. Hunt would top the Bills' depth chart while Singletary and rookie James Cook would provide quality depth at running back. However, Hunt's view has apparently changed with the Browns reluctant to give him a new deal.

Cleveland Browns top 3 trade partners for a Kareem Hunt deal (NFL Spin Zone)

Playing with one-year left on his deal, Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt has demanded a trade or extension. Who could call the Browns for a deal?

A contract extension could keep Hunt in Cleveland, but given the team’s investments in other players and the potential of D’Ernest Johnson to fill the role, that seems unlikely. Being partnered with Chubb in Cleveland’s backfield has allowed Hunt to have fewer miles on him than most backs of his caliber and age. Playing in the last year of his current deal, Kareem Hunt reportedly demanded a new contract or a trade.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kareem Hunt watched the Browns give contract extensions to fellow running back Nick Chubb along with Denzel Ward, Joel Bitonio, ...

The Browns have a lot of options at running back besides Hunt as backups to Chubb. Johnson started two games and rushed for 100 yards each time. The Browns do need Hunt, especially if Watson is out for a while with a suspension. Hunt wisely returned to business as usual, running sprints with the team and participating in full practice on Sunday. Hunt has always been a hard worker with a good attitude. But what Hunt needs to do is establish that he’s healthy and play well. Also many in the NFL are on one-year deals – such as Jadeveon Clowney, who is a productive player. Of course, the average person doesn’t have a contract. Hunt was never charged criminally, but received an eight-game suspension from the NFL after signing with the Browns in 2019. 1. Most people with contracts don’t like to be in the final season with their employer not interested in extending them. After three years with Chubb, he knows that won’t happen. The Willoughby South High School product is 27 and worried about his future. As cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot reported: “Hunt has a base salary of $1.350 million, and received a roster bonus of $1.5 million. He also caught 22 passes.

What's next?: Kareem Hunt, Browns need each other as Deshaun ... (Akron Beacon Journal)

The Browns needed Hunt's energy, dynamic receiving skills during his nine games missed in 2021, but they've lined up replacements for two years.

It’s not hard to envision Hunt leading the league in rushing with the Kyle Shanahan-coached 49ers. That comment seemed to reveal the kind of team-first player Hunt has been since the Browns took a chance on him. Does he see the Browns playoff chances dwindling ahead of the Watson appeal ruling? But there will come a time when the Browns can’t afford Chubb and Hunt. Perhaps General Manager Andrew Berry would rather make that decision now, especially in the throes of the Watson saga. “So you know, whatever they decide, they know I'm going to come out there and give it my all and I'll do whatever I can to help the team win." If former New Jersey attorney general Peter C. Harvey, commissioner Roger Goodell’s designee, agrees with the league that Watson deserves a year for his violation of three clauses in the personal conduct policy, Browns running backs will have to carry the load. In April, they selected Cincinnati’s Ford in the fifth round. Without Hunt in 2021, the offense was stagnant during an 8-9 season compromised by quarterback Baker Mayfield’s left shoulder injury suffered in Week 2. Hunt declined to participate in team drills on Friday and Saturday, revealed on social media by Josina Anderson of CBS SportsHQ that he was seeking a trade or a new contract. In 2021, they drafted UCLA’s Felton in the sixth round. In that instance, Hunt should have plenty of opportunities to prove he deserves more money. The Browns have salary cap space, but they should not cave to Hunt’s demands.
