Can Jesse Marsch and his American duo of Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams get off to a winning start?
Nelson Semedo will also miss out but Wolves have plenty of defensive depth to cope with his absence. The biggest miss will be the heart of the defense Liam Cooper who is still carrying an Achilles injury from the offseason. Without a traditional striker available, Neto and Podence will share the load atop the attack but the team usually struggles to score when Jimenez isn't available. Leeds' summer business has been in direct contrast to that of Wolves. Bruno Lage needs attacking reinforcements after his side only scored 38 goals last season but instead Fabio Silva was loaned to Belgium and Nathan Collins has been the only addition. With Leeds being defensively suspect, can they kick off the season on a positive note? After avoiding relegation last season, expectations are high for Jesse Marsch and Leeds United. The pressure of securing Premier League safety has been replaced with the pressure of making new signings work after being backed heavily by the board during the summer.
The Yorkshire Yanks Leeds United host Wolves at Elland Road on Saturday, as Jesse Marsch kicks off his first full Premier League season as a manager.
Defensively they are solid but with Raul Jimenez missing for the first month of the season due to injury, who is going to step up to the plate? Bruno Lage’s side can keep the ball extremely well and in Jose Sa they have one of the best goalkeepers outside the top six in the Premier League. Their ambitions have changed, though, and a lack of spending this summer shows that European aspirations aren’t realistic for Wolves and being steady in midtable is their main aim. Even though he arrived for the final months of last season and kept Leeds up, the jury is still out for most Leeds fans on Jesse Marsch. It was always going to be tough to replace the legendary Marcelo Bielsa but Marsch has the chance to reshape Leeds’ approach and we’ve seen that during preseason. Marsch has a lot of injury issues to deal with as Stuart Dallas, Luke Ayling, Junior Firpo, Adam Forshaw and Luis Sinisterra out, plus Dan James is suspended and Liam Cooper is also out. Jesse Marsch has spent plenty of money, including on USMNT stars Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams, and he will need a positive start to prove he’s the right man for the job. After escaping relegation on the final day of last season, the main feeling around Leeds this summer has been relief.
Leeds United came from behind to record a morale-boosting opening day Premier League win, running out 2-1 winners against Wolves.
Even seeing him on the pitch for a sustained period of time was a bonus for the club’s top striker, but he was a split-second short of full sharpness on a few first-half attacks. Busy and threatening from the off, and his pressing to win the ball back high was a huge part of Rodrigo’s equaliser. Probably third-best of the three attacking midfielders in the first half but followed Aaronson in snapping at the heels of Wolves defenders to spring Rodrigo for his goal, and put in a beautiful cross late in the period that was just out of Rodrigo and Bamford’s reach. Crashed into one first half challenge to the delight of the supporters in the stands and was just about the pick of the defenders. Surprisingly bullied off the ball by Pedro Neto in the build up to the Wolves opener. Stepped out from the back and gave away possession in the build up to the opening goal, then was out of position as Hwang nodded down at the back post to assist.

Rodrigo and a Rayan Ait-Nouri own goal delivered an opening day victory for Leeds United against Wolves, with Brenden Aaronson starring in victory.
Klich replaced Rodrigo, and instantly Leeds seemed to have reasonable control of the ball. A terrific debut performance from Aaronson, who was at the centre of everything Leeds did positively. The French keeper had a busy day at the office but ensured his team was in the game. However, in a swift attacking move, debutant Aaronson forced an own-goal via Ait-Nouri, to give Leeds the decisive strike of the match. However, Leeds then caught Wolves out in the 24th minute as Rodrigo fired a shot past Jose Sa to equalise. The game did have a fast start courtesy of Leeds United, which was soon dampened by Pascal Struijk’s error.

Leeds United picked up a crucial three points on the opening day of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, dispatching Wolves in front of a packed Elland Road ...
Wolves started the second 45’ much stronger, keeping Leeds under the cosh for an extended period in which The Whites struggled to get a grip of possession. It was a tightly contested affair in the first half, but Leeds made a spell of intense pressure count. But it was Wolves who made the blistering start, opening the scoring in the sixth minute when Kristensen tried to tank Neto off the ball with Llorente out of position behind him.
Leeds struck late to beat Wolves 2-1 at Elland Road, with USMNT star Brenden Aaronson heavily involved on his Premier League debut.
Tyler Adams was comfortable on the ball and played a great forward pass in the build-up to Leeds’ winner. Leeds’ press worked well, when it worked, but Jesse Marsch’s side are still finding the balance and after they went ahead late on they looked far more confident to be on the front foot. Brenden Aaronson was involved in Leeds’ opener as his pressing led to the ball being won back and Rodrigo firing home at the near post. Their first goal perfectly summed up why Wolves have switched to a 4-3-2-1 formation as Pedro Neto found Hwang Hee-Chan and he nodded down for Daniel Podence to finish. Then they punished Wolves. At the final whistle Marsch and Lage were far from friends and the American coach was not happy at all with something the Portuguese coach had said or done. Leeds were not happy with that and up until the 70th minute they probably weren’t pleased with their overall performance.
The winning goal was initially assigned to debuting winger Brenden Aaronson, but closer checks showed it was Wolves' Ait-Nouri who bundled striker Patrick ...
The hosts equalised in the 24th minute after Rodrigo Moreno, who scored five goals in their five pre-season friendlies, received the ball inside the box and tapped it in low inside the near post under the diving goalkeeper Jose Sa. Wolves, who were without their two forwards Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore due to injury, took an early lead through Daniel Podence in the sixth minute when his shot took a bounce and found its way into the net over Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier. However, closer checks showed it was Wolves' Ait-Nouri who bundled ball over the line in the 74th minute, not the Leeds winger who was making his debut.
