Daniel Ricciardo's message to McLaren before learning of plans to ... (Daily Express)

DANIEL RICCIARDO had a defiant message for his McLaren team before learning they were planning to replace him.

Boss Zak Brown mentioned previously that Ricciardo had not met his or our expectations” and has now hinted the team may let him go if he does not improve. Daniel Ricciardo had issued a positive message to McLaren and his fans before reports surfaced the team would replace him for next season. But that’s certainly the plan.” It has been a poor season by Ricciardo’s standards and he has only managed four top 10 finishes in 2022 so far, with P6 at his home Australian GP his best finish so far. A bit like last year, [I want to] kind of start that second half of this season with a positive bang and just get the ball rolling. And then I’ll get to the point when I start to not feel guilty but just like ‘all right, time to turn it on again’. Assuming McLaren's contract with Piastri is upheld, the most likely destination for Ricciardo now seems likely to Alpine to occupy the seat his fellow Australian did not want for the 2023 season, which would mean a smaller pay-out than if he sat out for the full year.

I will not be driving for Alpine next year." "I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am driving for them next year," Piastri posted to Twitter. "This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. Shortly after announcing the promotion, Piastri took to Twitter to dispute the move, saying he would not be driving for the Alpine team in 2023.

F1: McLaren Set to Replace Daniel Ricciardo With Oscar Piastri, per ... (Sports Illustrated)

The Australian is still under a tight contract with the team until 2023, making a settlement necessary.

It was reported that Piastri had signed a pre-contract deal with McLaren, and per Autosport, the 21-year-old is initially on a reserve deal. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. This left an open seat at Alpine, and a day later, the team said Piastri would be a part of the ’23 F1 driver lineup alongside Esteban Ocon.

McLaren has told Daniel Ricciardo it intends to replace him with Formula 2 champion Oscar Piastri next season, a source close to the Australian driver has ...

The Piastri coup is as big a moment for McLaren as it is embarrassing for Alpine, who look set to have lost a two-time world champion and a potential future world champion to rival teams in the space of 72 hours. Ricciardo was one of the grid's strongest performers in 2020 and there is a feeling in the Formula One paddock he needs a change of scenery to return to his old form. New Alpine team boss Otmar Szafnauer recently said he would have no objections with Ricciardo coming back to the team.

Here's What We Think The Future Holds For Daniel Ricciardo (WTF1)

So what's next? Well, his time at McLaren hasn't given him the car or the environment to prove himself (again) as a top F1 talent, disqualifying him from a seat ...

From the outside, it looks like the McLaren atmosphere has become very toxic, and I think it’s best he tries to find happiness in a new team on the F1 grid. Well, his time at McLaren hasn’t given him the car or the environment to prove himself (again) as a top F1 talent, disqualifying him from a seat at another big team who probably won’t want to take a gamble on him. With Zak Brown trying everything short of using a crowbar to pry Ricciardo from his seat at McLaren, it’s pretty obvious that the Aussie’s time sitting next to Lando Norris is short-lived.

Oscar Piastri Will Reportedly Replace Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren (RoadandTrack.com)

Following a report that Ricciardo has been informed a move is imminent, McLaren seems to have its 2023 lineup.

If he were to join the team, Ricciardo would be joining the seat initially announced for Piastri after Fernando Alonso's surprise switch to Aston Martin earlier in the week. If this does happen, the most likely outcome seems to be a return to Alpine. Although Ricciardo left the team on short notice to join McLaren in the first place, he had a very strong run with what was then Renault after voluntarily leaving Red Bull Racing to take a shot at being a No. 1 driver there. When Palou was signed with some ambiguity about whether or not he could race in Formula 1, Daniel Ricciardo even went as far as to confirm that he was "committed to McLaren until the end of next year."

Daniel Ricciardo out, Oscar Piastri in? What we know about ... (USA TODAY)

Talented rookie Oscar Piastri is engaged in a contract dispute that could leave veteran Daniel Ricciardo without a Formula one seat next season.

With no available seats in F1 for 2022, this left Piastri in no-man's land — with Alpine eventually signing him to a reserve contract for 2022 for the purpose of keeping Piastri affiliated with the team and getting the Australian some experience with the F1 car. Contract disputes in F1 are decided by the FIA Contract Recognition Board (CRB), a group of independent lawyers who settle disputes out of court. Yes, and it should sound especially familiar because McLaren is also at the center of the IndyCar situation. So, will Piastri make his F1 debut in 2023 and for which team? Those rumors seem to have had credence, as RACER reported Friday that McLaren was in exit talks with eight-time race winner Daniel Ricciardo and felt it had a valid contract with Piastri. Oscar Piastri, who is currently the reserve/test driver at Alpine F1 team, was announced Tuesday as one of the team's two primary drivers for the 2023 season.

Daniel Ricciardo to be replaced at McLaren by Australian wonderkid ... (Sporting News AU)

Australian F1 star Daniel Ricciardo is set to be replaced at McLaren by compatriot wonderkid Oscar Piastri, according to a variety of reports.

This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. Remarkably, he won both championships. He also travels with the team to each grand prix where he sits in on driver meetings and is often active in the team garage. Notably, Zhou Guanyu finished third in the standings but managed to secure a seat with Alfa Romeo as a driver for the current Formula 1 season. The F1 driver merry-go-round is in full swing with Alpine initially announcing Piastri would be in their team next year as a replacement for Fernando Alonso, who was moving to Aston Martin after the retirement of Sebastian Vettel. It's understood McLaren wants to ensure the 33-year-old gets to another F1 team before announcing the recruitment of Piastri for next year, who recently denied he was driving for Alpine in 2023.

McLaren F1 slammed over Ricciardo treatment (TheJudge13)

Formula One is famed for its ruthless decisions. Daniel Ricciardo has been sacked by Zak Brown and McLaren mid way through his 2 year contract with the team ...

It appeared the team blamed him for the contact in Baku and that loss of confidence was something Ricciardo never recovered from. Surely it is a no brainer that Alpine recruit the scorned McLaren driver for next season. With hindsight it’s easy to see the mistakes F1 drivers make in their careers, but leaving Red Bull for Alpine in 2019 was Ricciardo’s biggest mistake by far. This was not fatal for Red bull’s Australian driver and he had the confidence of the team to continue. He also needs a car not so on the very edge where it breaks away from the driver without notice. 2017 saw Ricciardo win a race for Red Bull together with 7 podiums but the team was poor who were only third as a constructor. Now Red Bull’s lead driver for 4 seasons Daniel Ricciardo faced his toughest year for the Milan Keynes team. Following a collision with team mate Verstappen in round 4 of the championship which saw both cars eliminated,. Thank you, Damon – we need to do better.’ And I thought the guy we chose would do better and in fact it was a serious error of judgment. Damon Hill was sacked by Williams during the season he won the drivers’ world title for the team. Frank was ruthless in pursuit of the next great ‘thing’ but Hill was in good company. Frank Williams founder of the team year later later admitted, “I probably thought at the time, almost certainly did: ‘Great, great.

Oscar Piastri will drive for McLaren in 2023 as the team works on Daniel Ricciardo's early release. What's in Piastri's new contract and Ricciardo's options ...

There’s still work to be done but the end result is clear. Another option could be Haas with Mick Schumacher likely being on the move as the team wants a change next season. However, it appears that Ricciardo might have seen the writing on the wall after contacting Alpine earlier this week. The Australian driver could also jump to Alfa Romeo and team up with Valtteri Bottas. Both drivers could use it as a reset for their careers, but it would end up with the removal of Zhou Guanyu. Due to Oscar Piastri not having a contract with Alpine, the team will further work on Ricciardo’s release as his future now becomes murky, even though many teams have contacted the Australian driver. Alpine is now set to lose both two-time world champion Alonso and future world champion Piastri. It’s a mega disaster for the team as their past, present, and future are all gone.

Multiple outlets are reporting that McLaren has informed driver Daniel Ricciardo that he will not be with the team for the 2023 season.

If Ricciardo is leaving the team after this season, which would involve buying out the rest of his contract as he was signed to drive for McLaren in 2023. That announcement sent shockwaves through the paddock (and also did incredible numbers online; nearly 400,000 likes.

F1 Star Daniel Ricciardo on His New Wine That's 'Too Good for a ... (Variety)

The F1 star Daniel Ricciardo talks about his new wine brand with St. Hugo and his summer must-haves for Variety's Ask an Insider series.

“I go with both [over-ear and earbuds] but when racing normally I go with the over-ears just because when we’re on the grid before the race, there’ll be broadcasts, they want to interview us, and that’s kind of my off-limits time and it’s my moment to get in the zone, so the over-ear is more obvious and it’s a way for them to know that I’m listening to music, I’m in my zone — it’s basically my way of saying don’t touch me. I got to first meet St. Hugo through the F1 world and it was just kind of perfect.” He wants you to know he’s not a connoisseur, though (“I’m a wine lover,” he insists). That being said, he has brought his trademark perfectionism to his new line of work. “Wine was always a part of my upbringing and family — eating around the table, Sunday lunches at Nana and Nano’s house,” he says. In this installment, F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo (and breakout star of Netflix’s “ Drive to Survive”) talks about his new wine with St. Hugo and five other essentials he’s been enjoying throughout his summer break. It’s this attention to detail that is inarguably behind his success in every other industry he’s ventured into off the track: fashion, music, entertainment, crypto.

The contract clause that could shake up F1 even more... and muddle Ricciardo's future.

“He’s been competitive since the start of the year, so yeah, no surprise on that side. That is that the team is placed higher than AlphaTauri on the standings and Alpine, currently sitting in fourth in the constructors’ championship, would fit that bill. A report back in June from RacingNews365claimed that AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly has a clause in his contract that would allow him to join a rival team in 2023 — with one condition.

DANIEL RICCIARDO sat down with Express Sport to discuss the current state of affairs in F1.

"He got to the top, but as quickly as he got there, he got knocked back down. "I'm working my a** off with the team to make improvements and get the car right and back to the front where it belongs. Ricciardo previously insisted that he was committed to seeing out his McLaren contract, which runs to the end of next season, and directly addressed speculation with a statement on social media last month. "Personally, I like Pierre Gasly," he told Express Sport. "For the record, he’s not the only driver I like. Despite having driven alongside dark horses such as Esteban Ocon and Nico Hulkenberg in the past, Ricciardo believes that Gasly is deserving of the 'most underrated' label. The McLaren star threw his backing behind AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly, who has worked hard to restore his reputation after a failed spell with Red Bull in 2019.

DANIEL RICCIARDO appears set to leave McLaren at the end of the year with Oscar Piastri reportedly replacing him.

Ricciardo had made it clear that summer that he wanted to leave Red Bull for a new challenge and eventually signed a deal with Renault. Only a few drivers are signed up beyond the 2023 campaign and the biggest seat potentially becoming available would be Lewis Hamilton's at Mercedes. It now appears as though Piastri will be driving alongside Lando Norris next year, leaving Ricciardo without a seat for the 2023 campaign.
