ATLANTA – The Phillies have been trying to find a starting pitcher before Tuesday's 6 p.m. Trade Deadline. But after falling short to this point, ...

The Phillies had been looking for starting pitching because Zach Eflin is on the 60-day injured list with a right knee injury. But the price for starting pitching has been high, so it appears the Phillies shifted their priorities. O’Hoppe is the Phillies’ No. 3 prospect, and the No. 86 prospect in baseball.

Chicago Cubs trade veteran relievers David Robertson and Mychal ... (Chicago Tribune)

The Chicago Cubs on Tuesday traded David Robertson to the Philadelphia Phillies and Mychal Givens to the New York Mets.

“I got another opportunity and got a deal that I thought was favorable to me and I thought it was a pretty fair shake at it to rebound back into my career,” Robertson said. His 33 postseason relief appearances made him a valuable commodity leading to the trade deadline. Robertson converted 14 of 19 save opportunities, his most since 2017. He appeared in 12 games with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2021 for his first big-league action since April 2019. Robertson, who represented himself during contract talks, wanted to find the right fit. Seven appearances into that season, Robertson suffered an arm injury that required Tommy John surgery, and he didn’t throw another pitch in a Phillies uniform. It was a great spot for that contract. It was frustrating.” It’s nice to be on the home side and not on the road side.” It led to a one-year, $3.5 million deal — including up to $1.5 million in incentives — with the Cubs in March. “I know a lot of people there; it would be great,” he said. Robertson sounded excited about a potential reunion with the Phillies when talking to the Tribune last month about the possibility.

Phillies To Acquire David Robertson From Cubs (MLB Trade Rumors)

That led to a two-year contract with the Phils over the 2019-20 offseason, but Robertson's first stint in Philadelphia didn't go as hoped, though not through ...

Brown will have to be added to the Cubs 40-man roster this winter to avoid being selected in the Rule 5 draft. The 6’6″ hurler has had a breakout 2022 season, pitching to a 3.08 ERA through 73 innings at High-A. He’s fanned 35.4% of opponents against a 7.7% walk rate. The Phils bullpen has been solid of late, but the club has had longstanding issues finding consistent results in the back end. The Phils will take another shot on him to bolster the mid-late innings mix. In exchange for their low-cost dice roll on Robertson, the Cubs recouped a half-season of excellent work and eventually turned him into a longer-term addition to the organization. The veteran righty signed a one-year, $3.5MM deal with Chicago during Spring Training. He quickly emerged as the club’s primary closer, saving 14 games during his 36 appearances.

NY Mets: A best and final David Robertson trade offer to the Cubs (Rising Apple)

Edwin Diaz has been the best closer in baseball this year, doing historic things. ...

The Cubs get two guys who can maybe develop into something for a guy they weren't going to keep anyway. He's a promising arm who can maybe crack the Cubs rotation in a couple of years. It's a good low risk high reward get for them as Smith has another two seasons of team control after this one and the Cubs are going nowhere anytime soon anyway. He's flourished as the closer on the north side and is surely going to be dealt with the Cubs out of contention. The Cubs would be acquiring Dom Smith, a guy who I've lost confidence in completely, but for some reason they haven't as they've expressed interest in him. A trade with the Cubs has seemed inevitable as the sides worked together last season in the Javier Baez trade, and the Cubs having multiple pieces the Mets should be interested in.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies acquired veteran reliever David Robertson in a trade with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.

Robertson is 3-0 with a 2.23 ERA and 14 saves in 36 appearances this year. The Phillies sent minor league right-hander Ben Brown to the Cubs for the 37-year-old Robertson, one of the top relievers on the market ahead of the trade deadline. A person with direct knowledge of the trade confirmed the deal to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the move had not been announced.
