Neil Patrick Harris Chose His Own D*ck Pic for 'Uncoupled' (Decider)

Neil Patrick Harris, who plays Michael in Darren Star's new Netflix comedy 'Uncoupled,' dishes on the making of his character's infamous dick pic moment.

“I had to find a dick pic that wasn’t my actual dick to make it look like it was my dick, which is its own comedic endeavor because I’m scrolling through pictures of phalluses and I’m trying to determine, like, how large my own on-camera dong should be. He got what he needed, but the next day as he’s showing his colleague and an important new client photos of apartments on his phone, he accidentally swipes past his winning dick pic. After Stanley shows Michael his dick pic (or rather, an illustrated take on his dick that one the artists he represent mocked up) Michael heads into his gym’s locker room, drops his towel, and carries out his very own dick pic photo shoot. He has his friends to guide him, make him sign up for Grindr, and teach him the importance of having a good dick pic on hand. In Episode 3, after Michael’s first Grindr match blocks him for not sending a dick pic in a timely fashion, his pal Stanley (Brooks Ashmanskas) explains, “You need a dick pic. Needless to say, Michael is distraught — mostly because he loved Colin, but also because he has to get back on the dating scene in his forties.

“Sex Education” star Ncuti Gatwa will make his debut as the new incarnation of the Doctor. You can listen to the full interview with Harris above. “It’s the same way that I don’t know the ‘Golden Girls,’” Harris admits. I hope we don’t turn it into a larger thing.” “And then I realized that’s just the picture people use when they talk about me as the Oscars host and I was wearing really nice suits. “It’s the same way that I don’t know Barbra Streisand. My gaydom started with like ‘Into the Woods’ and ‘Les Misérables’ and musical theater. It was a little insecure making because you don’t want to choose a massive dong because that’s like its own meta weird joke. “I know even before then they’re going to want more independence and not want to spend time together with us, necessarily. Harris had to wear two pairs of tighty-whities. “I just want to be able to prioritize these next five or six years with them before they’re off to college,” Harris says. Uncoupled star Neil Patrick Harris and co-creators Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman on creating a universal rom-com amid fight for LGBTQ+ rights.

“So perhaps it will prove to be a bubble, but it’s the reality of life for these characters.” “But I think in an interesting way, Uncoupled’s rom-comedy and Darren and Jeffrey’s real-world writing styles are yet another example to prove how universal this experience is,” he continues. “And I don’t think any of these characters for a minute question — except for Marcia Gay Harden’s character, who sort of questions, ‘Well, is it really the same for you as it is for me?’ — the depths of emotions that go into the pain one might feel with a breakup. That leaves it set squarely in a more equitable reality that LGBTQ+ people may be craving to see right now. It’s a very sexual show, but it’s not trying to make any sort of point on the sex scale.” Upon watching, it’s easy to see how the story’s main couple is defined less by their sexuality and more by their efforts to navigate life after spending nearly half of their’s together. It’s reflective of a generation of LGBTQ+ people who have, now, lived for years under equal civil rights they didn’t have before. “It was apparent immediately from reading even the first script, there was something about it that — and I mean this is a compliment — was so normal,” he continues. “Jeff and I were talking at the beginning that we wanted the emotions to feel universal. That effort was for star Harris part of what appealed to him when considering the project. That’s something Darren Star says was at the crux of how he and co-creator Jeffrey Richman approached the show. And it’s arriving at a notable time for the LGBTQ+ community.

Tisha Campbell & Marcia Gay Harden Interview: Uncoupled (Screen Rant)

Uncoupled stars Tisha Campbell and Marcia Gay Harden chat with Screen Rant about the dynamic between their characters.

Overnight, he has to confront two nightmares: losing the man he thought was his soulmate, and suddenly finding himself a single gay man in his mid-forties in New York City. And so we want that account. Tisha Campbell: And there's a spectrum I think, too. There's a facade and then it falls away and you realize, "Oh, this is who I am." And so we're racing to try to get that account, and she's nothing nice. Or is this a friendship that starts when the viewers first see it? And as she recognizes the universality of heartbreak, it helps her bond with Michael and it helps her bond with Suzanne, and friendships develop as kind of the facade breaks down, which I think it often does when people get divorced. I want somebody but I'm kind of content. Tisha Campbell: Sure. I play Suzanne. I play Neil Patrick Harris's character's best friend and support system. And so she gives me a lot of a hard time, as well. Tisha Campbell: Yeah, well, my son is, but I'm not. Tisha Campbell: For her, yeah?

'Uncoupled' Ending, Explained: What Happens Between Michael ... (Digital Mafia Talkies)

Netflix series, "Uncoupled," directed by Andrew Fleming, Zoe R. Cassavetes, and Peter Lauer, stars Neil Patrick Harris, Tisha Campbell, Brooks Ashmanskas,

It was only after Colin saw that Michael was no longer affected by their breakup, it struck him that he had committed a mistake and that he wouldn’t find anybody as loving as him. Billy went to Stanley and asked him why he had asked only Michael to come to the hospital and not him. It was Colin. He said that he had started to feel it was a big mistake and that they should never have parted. He had battled his inhibitions, his insecurities, and his vulnerabilities day in and day out after Colin left. The Jonathans, who were the mutual friends of Billy, Michael, Colin, Suzanne, and Stanley, were getting married, and had invited all of them to their grand Jewish Gay Wedding. Michael was all jittery because he knew that he would meet Colin and his new flare at the party. Michael was happy with what he had and didn’t hold any regret for not having certain people in his life. He asked Michael to come with him to the hospital, as he felt really scared and anxious. For 17 years, they had been living together, and Colin could see that everything in his life had been already planned for him, and there was no scope for any other possibility. The only difference was that for people like Claire and Michael, the vulnerability was evidently showing on their faces and their actions, but for others like Colin and Billy, it was pretty deep-rooted, and they were still living in denial, though subconsciously it was affecting them. His friend Billy asked him to make a profile on a dating app called Grindr, but for 17 years, he had been out of the playground and had lost touch. He told him that they would go for dinner in the evening, but instead, he had planned a surprise party for him. Colin stepped down from the cab and told Michael that he was breaking up with him and that he had already moved out of the apartment.

Harris sees value in a work that is “just a slice of representation without agenda....If one tries too hard to accomplish a specific agenda with art, it’ll be met with both extremes. I don’t need a changing room curtain," he said. “As a gay man myself, I thought that having content that was representational was great on a streaming platform like Netflix,” Harris said. “I’ve been with David for 18 years, and once we started dating, we really just never stopped.” You don't have to be gay to see yourself reflected in these characters because it's so much about the humanity of this experience." “I thought that that was all something that hasn’t necessarily been done before.

'Uncoupled' Review: ”In The Good, The Bad, and The Best Times” (Fangirlish)

Here we go! DEVASTATION. Uncoupled. (L to R) Brooks Ashmanskas as Stanley James, Neil Patrick Harris as Michael Lawson in episode 104 of Uncoupled.

He focused so much on himself and on giving the image that nothing else mattered to him, that even his friends think that of him and he needs to change that. LGBTQ+ representation is on point in Uncoupled. Through Michael and the secondary/episodic characters, we find the representation of all kinds and that is something other shows should learn from. The same goes for Billy’s epiphany because yes, he needs to show much more about how much he loves his friends and that he’s going to be there for them when they need him. And, just when Michael can actually smile and be in Michael’s presence, talk to him, and remember their past together without completely breaking down, just when he can remember Colin with a smile, Colin hurts him again. Colin dumped Michael and left him broken, going to his dinner is like Stanley sending the message that he didn’t care what Colin did to his best friend. She is the counterpoint to both Suzanne and Michael and I think they help each other. After many vicissitudes and a path that led him to know himself much better, Michael manages to begin to heal. It makes sense that he would want to go there to find out why the hell Colin acted like this and if, somehow, he had a good reason, even if what he did wasn’t right. They’re there to listen to him, to be his shoulder to cry on, and to dance with him when he needs to have fun and stop thinking. The least you should do is talk to your love and try to work it out. And this is the beginning of the story. It’s a story of healing and full of good friends who support you in the good, the bad, and the best times.

As low as that bar is, it’s a stunning victory over And Just Like That… Just like early seasons of Sex and the City, the series follows a group of friends — Michael, Billy (Emerson Brooks), and Stanley (Brooks Ashmanskas) — as they go on a slew of dates. From the schoolteacher desperate to speed run a relationship to the client who flirts with both Michael and his female business partner, each one presents a light, breezy, and laughable dating scenario. Sure, Uncoupled is more like later seasons of Sex and the City, the era of the show that was both too self-serious and too ridiculous. It was the TV equivalent of a fellow single friend who was desperate to dish about their latest terrible date, yet hoped that the right person was right around the corner. And Just Like That… wasn’t the breezy brunch we’ve all come to expect.

A second season of Netflix's Uncoupled has not yet been confirmed, but the Neil Patrick Harris helmed series has been a popular subject on social media.

Harris would of course be coming back as Michael, the main character of the show. Suzanne ended the season reeling from seeing her son Kai's birth father, though Campbell says she doesn't know who he is. I know he’s going to be fine, whoever he is. The first season also ended on several cliffhangers that fans would love to see resolved or explored in subsequent seasons. The story follows Harris as Michael, a real estate agent in New York City who finds out his 17 year relationship is abruptly ending when his boyfriend moves out of the house with no warning. The main question is how Michael will receive Colin after finding him back in their apartment and admitting he may have made a “mistake.”
