Jake Paul-Hasim Rahman Jr. bout canceled over weight issues (New York Post)

The anticipated fight of Jake Paul against Hasim Rahman Jr., set to headline at the Garden on Aug. 6, was canceled over weight issues for Rahman.

“On Friday, Rahman submitted a weight check to the New York State Athletic Commision that demonstrated that he had lost less than one pound since originally signing to take the fight 24 days prior,” the Most Valuable Promotions statement continued. “He’s called me a b—h in our sparring sessions,” Paul told The Post ahead of the planned fight. On top of that, he was subject to a rehydration clause, limiting how much weight he could gain after the official weigh in and before he entered the ring, a common practice among fighters. It’s also the second time the scheduled bout was forced to change plans. After he took the fight on short notice, Rahman (12-1) was subject to weekly tests to ensure he could slim down and make weight in time. “MVP and Jake Paul will not reward someone that has conducted themselves in such a deceiving and calculated manner,” Most Valuable Promotions said in a statement.

His fight vs. Hasim Rahman Jr. won't be happening, so Jake Paul clearly had a lot to say when he weighed in on the topic.

They want to change the weight to 205 pounds. This is clearly an excuse to say, ‘OK, the fight is not at 215? From the jump, I knew in the bottom of my heart that this guy didn’t want to get in there with me. We’re going to have to change this fight to 205 pounds. Do you want to do the fight still?’ I said, ‘No problem. From the jump, I knew in the bottom of my heart that this guy didn’t want to get in there with me. The commission wanted to track his weight cut to make sure he was doing it in a healthy way. He’s a big guy with a ton of weight to lose. Paul echoed much of what the initial news release from his promotion, Most Valuable Promotions said. While Paul initially issued a brief written comment, he dove more in-depth in a pair of videos uploaded to social media. According to Most Valuable Promotions, Hasim Rahman Jr. deceived the promotion, commission, and Paul about his weight.
