Former CNN Cuomo Prime Time host, Chris Cuomo, will become part of the NewsNation primetime lineup come this fall.
They’ve got great people who are really hungry to make a difference in ways that I think matter.” The young brother explained that his decision to help his sibling was driven to protect his family’s legacy but now realizes his decisions had consequences beyond himself. Former CNN Cuomo Prime Time host, Chris Cuomo, will become part of the NewsNation primetime lineup come this fall.
Chris Cuomo was fired from CNN in December. There, he drew 1.3 million total viewers; NewsNation averages just 50000 viewers in primetime.
Chris Cuomo encouraged his brother to “take a defiant position” and not resign, and stated that “cancel culture” was a reason to push back against the allegations, according to The Washington Post. Cuomo is a News Emmy-winning journalist and an attorney. Sean Compton, Nexstar Media Inc.’s president of Networks, added: “NewsNation has earned high-praise from multiple media watchdog groups by remaining true to its mission to bring viewers the fact-based news that impacts their lives without opinion or bias. Cuomo was fired from CNN in December after the cable news channel hired a law firm to investigate his involvement in conversations with his brother Andrew Cuomo’s defense team. In 2020, “Cuomo Prime Time” averaged 1.992 million total viewers per evening; 533,000 of those came from the key demo. “I never lied, and there were no secrets,” Cuomo told Abrams. Watch their interview here. The channel has not yet said which hour Cuomo will occupy; he had the 9 p.m. hour at CNN, which is now “CNN Tonight’s” timeslot. Last year, the show averaged 1.334 million total viewers; 327,000 were in the main demo. MSNBC is averaging 1.192 million total primetime viewers this year; Fox News Channel gets 2.372 million. (In the key demo, Fox News is first with 375,000; CNN gets 190,000; and MSNBC brings up the non-NewsNation rear with 136,000.) Unfortunately, thus far, the channel has not found a sizable audience there. This year, the relative newcomer NewsNation is averaging a paltry 50,000 total viewers in primetime; only 8,000 of those viewers come from the 25-54 age range, which is considered the key demo for advertisers on news programming.
Chris Cuomo is returning to TV news. The former CNN anchor, who was fired in December from the network, is joining NewsNation.
“And the media is trapped in it very often. I think we need outlets that aren’t fringe and just trying to fill their pockets.” He added that he is “going to try very hard to be fair” in his reporting.
The hiring of Chris Cuomo brings both star power and baggage to NewsNation, which has yet to build a large audience since its launch two years ago.
The network airs 11 hours of live news programming each day, with plans to go 24/7 by 2024. NewsNation has 221 anchors, producers, editors and researchers working at its newsroom inside the 61-year-old WGN-TV studios on West Bradley Place in Chicago’s North Center neighborhood. Before that, Cuomo, an attorney, was co-anchor of ABC’s “20/20″ and chief law correspondent for ABC News. He started at ABC in 2006 as news anchor at “Good Morning America,” and previously worked at Fox News. The time slot for Cuomo’s new one-hour show on NewsNation has yet to be disclosed. Cuomo, 51, who long hosted the top-rated prime-time show on CNN, was fired in December for allegedly violating network standards by advising his brother, then-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, as he navigated sexual harassment allegations. “I never lied and there were no secrets.”
Ex-CNN anchor follows Leland Vittert, Dan Abrams and Ashleigh Banfield to the fledgling news channel.
“Other people have the luxury of judging allegations and situations,” Cuomo continued. Speaking to NewsNation’s Dan Abrams on Tuesday night, Cuomo said, “I never lied, and there were no secrets… As reported by Variety, Cuomo will join the NewsNation prime-time line-up in the fall.
