McGibney then redirected the site to his anti-bullying resource BullyVille.com. As a condition of the sale, McGibney asked Moore to write a letter apologizing to victims, in which Moore stated he "might do some writing on bullyville.com to help people who have been bullied," as he's "been on both sides of the fence. Charles Evens, the hacker Moore paid to break into email accounts, was sentenced to 25 months. Former Marine James McGibney says in the docuseries that he offered Moore less than $12,000 to acquire Is Anyone Up? in April 2012. "There's no way I'm just going to abandon all of these women that I said I was gonna help," she says. "At the end of the day, I do not want anybody to hurt themselves. In February 2015, Moore pleaded guilty to one count of unauthorized access to a protected computer to obtain information for purposes of private financial gain, and one count of aggravated identity theft. He accused McGibney on Twitter of being a pedophile. She also exhibited her grit as a determined celebrity chaser who shared her secrets in the 1988 book "Meet the Stars" (written under the name Missy Laws). "I’m literally gonna take over the world.” And it appeared he would do it at any cost. His reaction, as relayed to Rolling Stone: “Oh my God, this is gonna be the best post ever.” When photos of Charlotte Laws' daughter appeared on Moore's website, she began to suspect Moore was relying on hacking for content. The more traffic I’d have that day, I’m going to get paid for.”

The most fascinating part of Netflix’s latest docuseries isn’t Moore, but Charlotte Laws. Thanks to this one mother’s tireless work, a site that had ruined several people’s lives was brought down. During his trial, he admitted that he had hacked the emails of hundreds of women and had sold their private photos to Moore. Evens was sentenced to two years and one month in prison. Charlotte Laws, the mother of one of the victims, submitted evidence to the FBI that Moore had obtained at least some of the photos that appeared on the site by illegal means. But there’s evidence to believe that Moore has been posting under other accounts. Moore was the creator of the revenge porn site IsAnyoneUp?, which was established in 2010 and allowed users to post explicit photos of people without their consent. Moore completed his prison sentence in May of 2017. Once referred to by Rolling Stone as “the most hated man on the internet”, Moore has been called the creator of revenge porn. This evidence was compiled following a two-year investigation orchestrated by Laws and included proof from more than 40 victims who appeared on the site. Moore stood as the leader of this toxic community, often encouraging users to dox people and contributing to the mockery that became commonplace for the site. While that may have been true on some level, Moore was eventually held responsible for his actions.

Hunter Moore now: What happened to 'The Most Hated Man on the ... (iNews)

The show tells the story of Hunter Moore, a Sacramento native who set up a revenge porn website.

Moore, from California, started the project when he was trying to send nude pictures of a woman to his friend. At this time revenge porn laws had not been created, and he even mocked the cease and desist letters that were sent to him. Netflix says: “Hunter Moore was the most hated man on the internet – that is, until his online presence saw its day of reckoning. This meant if someone, such as a potential employer, Googled that woman then this could come up. He wrote most of it while the events were still happening and finished it in prison. The self-proclaimed “professional life ruiner” is the subject of the new documentary, and the story is as troubling as it is vindicating.

Hunter Moore Almost Participated In The New Netflix Doc — But Didn't (Bustle)

Moore was sentenced to time behind bars — followed by three years of supervised release — but has completed his sentence.

“I’m still contacted by women every day and I expect that number to rise when the Netflix show is broadcast,” she told the Daily Mail. “I’m just a mum who defended her daughter, but I will make it my mission to defend anyone’s daughter.” And while Moore initially agreed to take part in the docuseries, he subsequently backed out. A little over a year later, Moore entered into a plea deal, under which he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $2,000 fine. He was also required to notify of his probation officer of “every computer, computer-related device, screen name, password, e-mail account or ISP” he used or created during his three years of supervised release, according to his plea deal (which VICE shared in 2015). The site launched in 2010, and was only live for about two years, but had an outsize impact — both for its victims, and its founder. The site didn’t require that those featured in the images had consented to sharing them; often, the images were submitted by the subjects’ exes, who had received the pictures in confidence — hence why the the site became famous as a destination for revenge porn.

There seems to be little remorse nor accountability for the nude photos that were hacked, nor self-awareness that both he and the scorned partners can both do terrible things. In one video posted to his timeline, he admits he was "a little p***k" during the site's heyday. Moore would then publish the nude photos on IsAnyoneUp. Moore created IsAnyoneUp, the most popular revenge porn site the Internet had ever seen at that point. He created the website IsAnyoneUp.com, which featured nude and sexually explicit photos, mostly of women, usually submitted by their exes without their consent. The documentary explores his revenge porn empire and the real- life consequences numerous people—mostly women—suffered as the result of his website, IsAnyoneUp.com, publishing their photos without consent.
