MLB and the MLBPA did not agree to an international draft prior to Monday deadline, and as a result the qualifying offer system remains in place. Because he was traded at midseason, he is no longer eligible to receive the qualifying offer and will not be tied to draft pick compensation. You can be sure the Yankees want Benintendi available in the postseason, however. MLB.com ranks Sikkema the No. 19 prospect in New York's system and Way the No. 21 prospect. It should be noted Benintendi did not travel to Toronto with the Royals earlier this month. On Wednesday night, the Yankees acquired All-Star outfielder Andrew Benintendi from the Kansas City Royals for three pitching prospects, the team announced.

Yankees Acquire Andrew Benintendi From Royals (MLB Trade Rumors)

He's a .160/.293/.371 hitter in 498 plate appearances as a Yankee, striking out at a massive 38.4% clip over that stretch. Among hitters with 200+ plate ...

He’ll have to be added to the Royals 40-man roster at the end of the season or be exposed to the Rule 5 draft. Rosenthal and Stark report that the Blue Jays, Brewers and Dodgers were among the teams that had some interest in Benintendi, and it stands to reason the remainder of that group could look for other ways to add to their outfield. Kiley McDaniel of ESPN concurs that Way is the headliner of the return, tweeting that he looks like a possible mid-rotation starter. The 23-year-old has spent the entire year with Low-A Tampa, posting a 4.30 ERA with a 30.5% strikeout rate against a 6.2% walk percentage in 16 outings against generally younger competition. That obviously proved not to be the case in the end. Benintendi is playing this season on an $8.5MM salary, around $3.3MM of which will be paid out through the remainder of the season. The teams didn’t make any mention of cash considerations, so it seems the Yankees will assume the remainder of that tab. A fourth-round pick in 2020, Way has spent this season at High-A Hudson Valley. He’s worked 72 1/3 innings of 3.73 ERA ball, striking out an above-average 27.6% of opposing hitters. It’ll be a boost to a lineup that already led the majors with 523 runs scored. He should add an adequate to above-average glove in the outfield while offering a notable improvement over Gallo’s recent work at the plate. Among hitters with 200+ plate appearances this season, Gallo has the third-highest strikeout rate (38.1%) and third-lowest rate of contact on swings (62.2%). Benintendi has been one of the game’s most obvious trade candidates for the past few months.

New York Yankees acquire All-Star outfielder Andrew Benintendi ... (ESPN)

The Yankees acquired All-Star outfielder Andrew Benintendi from the Royals on Wednesday night, it was announced.

"For me, it was a personal decision," Benintendi said earlier this month about the vaccine. Benintendi was one of 10 players on the Royals who didn't travel to Toronto from July 14 to 17 for four-game series with the Blue Jays because they hadn't received the COVID-19 vaccination. And I think he's gonna fit right in." "He's a really good player," Judge said. Benintendi, who is eligible for free agency after this season, gives the Yankees another outfield option. Benintendi was named to his first career MLB All-Star Game this season.

With the offense in need of a spark, the Yankees made their first big move before the trade deadline by landing Andrew Benintendi from the Royals.

The Yankees have one series left at Toronto, in September, and the Blue Jays are a possible postseason Yankees' opponent. “It will definitely be a big piece to what we have going on here," Judge said of Benintendi, a member of the 2018 world champion Boston Red Sox and the 2017 runner-up for AL Rookie of the Year. "He’s a well-rounded player. Sikkema, a lefty, is No. 19, and the right-handed Way is No. 21.

As for Benintendi, the Yankees are getting the 28-year-old in the midst of one of the best years of his career. Yankees fans will take even a marginal upgrade from Gallo, and this one’s far more considerable than that. Gallo logged one at-bat (a strikeout) against the Mets over the last two games, further proving that he’s far from an asset for the Yankees at this point. All it cost was prospect pitchers TJ Sikkema (No. 19 per MLB Pipeline), Beck Way (No. 21) and Chandler Champlain (outside the top 30). Still, though, New York remains 33 games over .500 despite dropping five of seven out of the All-Star break. On the postgame broadcast, he said the Yankees remain “heavily connected” to Reds ace Luis Castillo. Perhaps it’s all just beginning.

Never in his career has he struck out less (13.4 percent) and never in his career has he chased fewer pitches out of the zone (22.5 percent). Benintendi’s status as unvaccinated against COVID-19 came to light earlier this season when he was restricted from traveling to Canada with the Royals. His vaccination status was never discussed in trade negotiations, sources said. If you’re not too careful, he can leave the yard on you. Benintendi is in the midst of a career season and the underlying numbers back up his success. I’ve seen it many times at Yankee Stadium.” While he may not be the biggest name that will be dealt before the deadline, he is arguably one of the most productive.

Yankees Trade for Andrew Benintendi (The New York Times)

With Giancarlo Stanton injured, Benintendi, a high-contact hitter, will fill an immediate gap. His vaccination status could be an issue down the road.

He was sent to the Royals in a February 2021 trade. He recorded a 3.73 E.R.A. in 15 starts with Hudson Valley before the trade. Sikkema, a 2019 first-round pick, was the Yankees’ No. 19 prospect, according to MLB.com. He owned a 2.48 E.R.A. over 11 games (10 starts) with High-A Hudson Valley this season. Despite being one of the more sought-after outfielders on the market, Benintendi, who is eligible for free agency this off-season, did not cost the Yankees any premium prospects. Benintendi, should he agree to get the vaccine, has plenty of time to do so before it is an issue. The available options would likely include Cincinnati’s Luis Castillo and Oakland’s Frankie Montas, both of whom are pitching well for last-place clubs. Gets on base at a really high clip, hits from the left side, so yeah, gives you some balance,” Yankees Manager Aaron Boone told reporters just before the Yankees announced the trade. “I’ve seen him do a lot of impressive things.” Benintendi, 28, was an All-Star for the Royals this season. His .399 slugging percentage would be his worst mark in a full season. “That’s another really good big league hitter to add to the mix that’s going to lengthen out our lineup and potentially give you that balance you look for.” But there is also a wide gap in power: Benintendi, who has hit as many as 20 home runs in a season in the past, has adjusted his approach to emphasize contact.

The Andrew Benintendi Trade Likely Spells the End for Joey Gallo ... (Sports Illustrated)

Aaron Boone all but admitted Gallo's time with the Yankees was nearly over, hours before they traded with the Royals for Benintendi.

Something happens and I happen to get on a team that has a chance to go play in Canada in the postseason, maybe that changes. According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, Benintendi will get the vaccine now that he’s a member of a winning team. So, New York still has the prospect capital to spend on a trade for a starting pitcher ( Luis Castillo, Carlos Rodón) or a reliever ( David Robertson, Andrew Chafin), while still having plenty of talented minor leaguers to hold onto. Gallo has always been a three-true-outcomes player, but he’s been mostly a two-outcome guy with the Yankees this year, and that’s even being generous. Benintendi allows the Yankees to cut ties with Gallo soon, presumably in a trade, even if they get little in return for him. After getting off to a dreadful start, Aaron Hicks quietly has been one of the Yankees’ more consistent hitters since the beginning of June. But he’s played more than 100 games in a season just twice in his career. Or, they can keep Judge in center, move Carpenter to right and put Josh Donaldson into the lineup at third, with LeMahieu playing second and Torres at DH. You get the idea. The trade was not yet official at the time of Boone’s press conference, but rest assured he will get the chance to pencil in Benintendi right away. Without Stanton, the Yankees can play Hicks in center and Judge in right. Benintendi, an All-Star for the first time this year, won the World Series with the Red Sox in 2018, one year after finishing second to Aaron Judge in the AL Rookie of the Year voting. Carpenter has been one of the best hitters in the league since he joined the Yankees, but he is not an everyday corner outfielder, which is where New York has been playing him of late. “If we get him, I’ll be excited to write his name in the lineup.”

Fantasy Baseball Today: Yankees acquire Andrew Benintendi ... (CBSSports.com)

After taking a 2-0 lead into the eighth inning behind a dominant performance from Max Schezer that included multiple strikeouts of the best hitter in baseball ...

Trout did kind of downplay the injury and said he expects to play again this season. For the CliffsNotes version, we'll recap the biggest news and notes you need to know right here: - Julio Rodriguezgave the Marinersthe go-ahead with his three-run homer. Jung has been out since February after requiring surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. If he hits the ground running, I wouldn't be surprised if we see him with the Rangers in September. Seeing as Benintendi is an all-fields hitter, the move to Yankee Stadium won't ultimately move the needle all that much. Chris is moving him into his top 12 once he sees him on the mound, but the uncertainty is still there based on the injury situation. Good times to be a fan of the Mets. They completed the two-game sweep of the Yankees in the Subway Series with an exciting Wednesday night win. He hasn't added much else other than the hits -- just three homers and four stolen bases with a .785 OPS. While he is currently hitting 100 mph like he normally does and the stuff looks very good, it's impossible to predict how long he'll be able to do that. After taking a 2-0 lead into the eighth inning behind a dominant performance from Max Schezer that included multiple strikeouts of the best hitter in baseball -- Aaron Judge -- the Mets bullpen nearly blew the game, allowing a two-run homer to Gleyber Torres. A walk-off Starling Marte single completed the 3-2 win, but enough about the Mets and Yankees. Let's pivot to the big news from Wednesday in Fantasy. Now let's dive into some of the biggest stories from Wednesday.

Here is everything you need to know about the trade between the Yankees and Royals:

They are tied for last in MLB with the Nationals with a 1.46 WHIP. Benintendi's arrival will allow the Yankees to move Matt Carpenter back to the infield after playing him in right field. He missed the Royals' four-game series in Toronto just before the All-Star break. As announced by the Yankees and Royals, New York receives Benintendi in exchange for three pitching prospects. New York is 66-33 through Wednesday and 11 1/2 games ahead of the second-place Blue Jays in the AL East. Benintendi is essentially a rental for the Yankees, as he can become a free agent following the 2022 season.

Here's what the New York Yankees lineup could look like with All-Star outfielder Andrew Benintendi following Wednesday's trade.

That said, maybe the Yankees believe Bentintendi’s pop will play up with the right-field short porch at Yankee Stadium. Donaldson, again, becomes the odd man out until he starts showing signs of life at the plate. 2. Aaron Judge, CF Not sure anybody expects Benintendi to continue his torrid first-half pace either, though he’ll be a significant upgrade over Joey Gallo. ... Could argue Carpenter higher than Hicks, but I’m not freaking out over the Nos. 6-7 spots. ... An argument could be made for putting Benintendi at No. 2, considering his .387 on-base percentage, but that would mean potentially less at-bats for Judge, who is also comfortable hitting in the No. 2 slot. Thoughts: Same argument applies here to possibly slotting Benintendi as the Yankees’ No. 2 hitter. 2. Aaron Judge, CF

How the Yankees absolutely fleeced the Royals for outfielder ... (Empire Sports Media)

The New York Yankees have been connected to Andrew Benintendi of the Kansas City Royals for several weeks ahead of the trade deadline...

The Yankees gave up another pitcher in TJ Sikkema. The 24-year-old currently features with Hudson Valley in High-A, posting a 2.48 ERA over 36.1 innings pitched. The Pennsylvania native was drafted in the 4th round of the 2020 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Northwest Florida State College. This season with High-A Hudson Valley, he hosts a 3.73 ERA over 72.1 innings. Chances are, Champlain won’t end up becoming anything special, and if he does, it’ll be 3–4 years down the line. Way is the most talented of the group at 22 years old. Benintendi is on a rental, one-year, $8.5 million deal for the 2022 season. His clutch factor has been negligent this year, but that is where Benintendi makes a significant impact.

Andrew Benintendi Yankees jersey: How to get the Yankees newest ... (nj.com)

Andrew Benintendi is now a member of the New York Yankees. Here's how to get his jersey.

“My boys and I have had the cards for over 30 years, and we’ve enjoyed it. “Whether you’re from the New York area or not, or a Yankees fan, it was always Mickey Mantle that was highlighted.” The switch-hitting Mantle — “the Mick” — was a Triple Crown winner in 1956, a three-time American League MVP and a seven-time World Series champion. “Four sharp corners, the gloss and the color jumps off the card.” The record is $6.6 million for a 1909 Honus Wagner card that was sold at auction a year ago, months after another 70-year-old Mantle card fetched $5.2 million. ... He had that aura about him,” card owner Anthony Giordano said of Mantle, who spent his entire career with the New York Yankees from 1951 to 1968. The Hall of Famer, who died in 1995, was considered a humble player on the field. Giordano, 75, said it was time to give the Mantle card a new home. Fans who want to purchase an Andrew Benintendi Yankees jersey can visit this Fanatics link. Grady said that the collectibles market is having a renaissance, noting that cards that are “the creme de la creme, the best of the best, are still selling despite the economy right now” and that Mantle, “the king” of baseball cards, “has always done well.” “The quality of the card is the key,” said Derek Grady, the executive vice president of sports auctions for Heritage Auctions, which is running the bidding. No matter the final price for the rare Mantle rookie card, it will be a hefty profit for the current owner, a New Jersey waste management entrepreneur who bought it for $50,000 at a New York City show in 1991.

Vaxxed, unvaxxed, going to be vaxxed — it doesn't matter anymore ... (Deadspin)

Andrew Benintendi's bat — not an undisclosed agreement to get the shot — is why he's in pinstripes.

The Nets and Kyrie Irving came close, but if that crunchy lunatic can avoid his comeuppance, I’m pretty sure an anti-vaxxer isn’t going to seriously alter the outcome of a championship. The real punishment for Benintendi’s bullshit would’ve been another few years laboring in the Missouri heat for a shitty team because no franchise was willing to suffer the headache for his .320/.387/.398 slash line. The team was nearly 40 games above .500 (61-23) less than three weeks ago and under little pressure to do much more than bolster the rotation and get Joey Gallo as far away from the lineup as possible. Wednesday’s dramatics were more of the same this month for a team that was on a 119-win pace before July happened. Other verifieds are alleging that the left fielder is willing to get the routine shot — available to all ages and extremely helpful against COVID — for a winning team. the Yanks lost six of their past 10, including two two-game sweeps at the hands of the hated Astros and Mets, with each series featuring a walk-off loss.
