New Captain America, a Thunderbolts movie, and a Kang all ready to conquer the universe.
So, there we have it: A total of six (we think six) movies, plus some TV shows, forming a new reinvention for Marvel as a whole. All-in-all, a pretty robust slate—even if it’s a little light so far on anything truly seismic, like an X-Men or Fantastic Four reveal. That’s: Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania (2/2023), Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 (5/2023), The Marvels (7/2023), Blade (11/2023), Captain America: New World Order (5/2024), and Thunderbolts (7/2024). Plus, on the TV side, Secret Invasion (Spring 2023), Echo (Summer 2023), season 2 of Loki (same), Ironheart (Fall 2023), Agatha (end of year), and the just-announced Daredevil: Born Again (Spring 2024). That’s a very busy 2023!

The MCU is always getting us ready for its next entry, and we certainly have a lot to anticipate. For the most part, the full MCU Phase 5 slate makes a lot of sense to us. The MCU Phase 4 had enough content to carry it through to 2022.

Marvel Phase 5 Announced At Comic-Con: 'Blade', 'Ironheart', Captain America'
For those missing the multi-verse’s new bad guy Kang the Conquerer, played by Jonathan Majors, well, he’s definitely showing up to fool with time in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang wrote a book in the wake of Endgame, and believes life is easy. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.Tenoch Huerta was introduced as Namor, the king of a hidden undersea nation. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was already scheduled to kick off next summer on May 5. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dropped a new trailer, and actually served as the finale to today’s session, beginning with a live performance by Baaba Maal (vocals), Massamba Diop (tama) and dancers and drummers. The nine episode comedy series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is coming sooner than you think, on Aug. 17 on Disney+. Directors Kat Coiro and Anu Valia, and head writer Jessica Gao, were joined by cast members Tatiana Maslany, Ginger Gonzaga and Jameela Jamil for a lively Q&A. In the series, Jennifer Walters (Maslany)—an attorney specializing in superhuman-oriented legal cases—must navigate the complicated life of a single, 30-something who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk. For most of the MCU stars showing up today, most of their movies have already been shot. The MCU was dropping trailers left and right in Hall H including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which would kick off Phase 5 on Feb. 17, 2023. Taking the stage, Marvel boss Kevin Feige got down to brass tacks and flashed a timeline up that encompassed both Phase 4 and 5. More talent announcements and directors for these new films are expected to be announced at D23. Following today’s MCU panel, Feige told Deadline that the Russos won’t be directing the next two Avengers movies (the brothers already consider Secret Wars a dream project). Deadline reported earlier this year that Jon Watts was exiting Fantastic Four. Feige also preferred to stay mum when it came to distinguishing how Phase 4,5, and 6 stood apart. At the top of today’s session, Marvel showed off a sizzle reel of their greatest hits of late, i.e. three Spider-Mans in Spider-Man: No Way Home, WandaVision, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel. However, it was a montage that shot straight for a fans’ hearts after starving during the pandemic sans an MCU session. Then words blazed on the screen to great screams, “It’s been a difficult time. There have been moments I thought ‘Will I ever be in Hall H again and the answer is Thank God, yes.”
Marvel Studios announced the upcoming projects for phase 5 of the MCU and fans are in for some amazing Marvel Phase 5 shows and movies.
This will lead to him being the leader of the Thunderbolts. With this will come major changes to the dynamic of the Avengers and the end of Phase 5. Captain America: New World Order (May 3) and Thunderbolts (July 26). If this writer had to guess, the New World will have Baron Zemo as the villain. In the fall, two projects will come out. The first movie following those to show is The Marvels (July 28). Look for more mutant stuff to happen in this. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will begin the summer blockbuster season with James Gunn’s final Guardians of the Galaxy project coming on May 5. Then, they unleashed an emotional trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The latter would have been enough to satiate some fans., especially with clips of Namor and the Atlanteans. But Marvel wasn’t done.
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige unveiled the Phase 5 slate for the Marvel Cinematic Universe at San Diego Comic-Con.
But perhaps the most important detail is what happened after the “Secret Wars”: Marvel Studios effectively rebooted, launching “all-new, all-different” versions of many of its most beloved titles, as some (but not all) characters from the 616 an 1610 universes found themselves living within a somewhat rebooted timeline. “WandaVision” head writer Jac Schaeffer will write and executive produce the show. Given the title, it’s safe to presume that Majors’ Kang the Conqueror is the Thanos (or maybe a Thanos) of the Multiverse Saga. What we learned: After her introduction in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) will star in her own Disney+ series. What we learned: Original launched as part of the Netflix slate of Marvel TV series (which were nominally part of the MCU), Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock is being (fully) brought into the Marvel Studios fold with a Disney+ series that is getting an unprecedented 18-episode order for its first season. — and a release date that gives the film the prime position for Marvel’s 2024 film slate. What we learned: Phase 5 ends with Marvel’s answer to DC’s Suicide Squad: A team up film about a bunch of MCU anti-heroes. What we learned: Nothing more than the release period for the series that spins off “Hawkeye” antagonist Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) into her own spin-off. Chukwudi Iwuji (formerly of DC’s “Peacemaker”) plays the High Evolutionary, and introduced himself to Hall H in character (implying that he played a role in Rocket’s transformation). Feige also gave a brief glimpse into what is coming in Phase 6, which is scheduled to conclude in Nov. 2025 with “Avengers: Secret Wars” — which Feige says caps off the Multiverse Saga of the MCU. What we learned: A legal comedy with a touch of “Fleabag,” this Disney+ series starring Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters (i.e. Bruce Banner’s cousin) boasts a cavalcade of superheroes who need a good lawyer — who is also giant and green. There was nary a mention of this critically adored series, but pictures from set have been fluttering across the internet as of late.

So, obviously Phase 6 is going to be more fleshed out, and Marvel has not taken this year to make any huge mutant-based X-Men announcements, though that movie is in there. Marvel is ready to talk specific dates for a whole bunch of releases, which also included the reveal of a few new high profile projects, including a pair of Avengers movies released within months of each other near the start of Phase 6. Phase 5 is on the way in 2023 and Phase 6 is starting shortly thereafter.

Turns out that’s exactly what she’s been doing, and that team’s going to star in its own self-titled movie due out July 26th, 2024. While we knew that movies like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the fourth Captain America, and Blade were on the horizon, what wasn’t yet clear was what sort of larger story they were all building towards. Agatha Harkness’ (Kathryn Hahn) solo series has gotten a small re-titling and an official release window, neither of which reveal all that much about what will become of the hexed witch given what became of Wanda Maximoff in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Coven of Chaos is meant to premiere in the winter of 2023.

Secret Wars has historically served as a reset button in the comic books, giving writers the opportunity to eliminate characters, storylines, and universes that weren’t working. Feige also confirmed that Kingpin, who appeared in that Netflix Daredevil series and again in the Disney+ show Hawkeye, will be the main antagonist in Born Again. Marvel dropped a sneak peak of the third Ant-Man film for fans at Comic-Con. At the beginning of the movie, Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang (Ant-Man) has written a book about how he helped save the world. At the last MCU Comic-Con panel in 2019, Mahershala Ali announced that he would play the iconic role of Blade, the vampire hunter. In the comics, the Secret Wars storyline terminated many universes in the multiverse, save fan-favorite strands, essentially hitting the reset button on the whole of Marvel comics. (Wanda has canonically been both an X-Men and an Avenger in the comics. During the panel at Comic-Con, Kevin Feige hinted that Kang the Conquerer may serve a similar purpose in Phases 5 and 6 of the MCU. He invited actor Jonathan Majors onstage and introduced him as the villainous genius who wants to conquer the multiverse. That said, a variant Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) already appeared in Multiverse of Madness. And Wandavision planted the seeds for a storyline. He popped up in post-credits scenes and made cameos in Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: Ragnarok. Even when he didn’t appear in a film, the Infinity Stones he coveted did. She will star in her own Disney+ series, Ironheart, in the next phase of the MCU. But fans have theorized the Shuri, Nakia, or perhaps even a parallel universe Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan, who played the role in the original film and is a longtime collaborator of Coogler’s) might at least wear T’Challa’s old gear. “You survived a looping, endless apocalypse and made it here to a Comic-Con panel at the end of time,” she said.

Looking at the diverse lineup of movies and TV coming down the pipeline, Feige's comments make a lot of sense. Both where it’s on an express train to the finale and also when it’s a fun, as many of our Phase 1, 2, and 3 films were." According to Feige, the future lineup of movies and television shows from Marvel will still leave room for more standalone stories. "Some of the films and shows will connect, some of them won’t. I think it’s just as important that we can have standalone introductory stories like Ms. Marvel, like Moon Knight, in addition to things that interconnect and build towards the larger story. So some of the tags will connect, some of them won’t. " "Well, I think the truth is...
